You are fairly new and a Lord of Defense for Ragnarok? In your first paragraph, you state that Klaus' assumption is that the protector should do more than protect the protectorate. I think that is no assumption, but a basis of fact. I have never to this day seen a treaty of this calibur stating that the protector will just "stick their necks out for the protectorate." I have seen the installment of mock-Viceroys, clauses promising guidance and advice, and more. I feel it is safe to say that the sort of treaty of speak of is less common than the one I speak of. In a completely diabolical sense, shouldn't the protector of an alliance want to foster growth through other means than just the protection of sovereignty? A protected alliance would surely "owe" some sort of debt to the one that gave it life? Having protected alliance graduated into completely sovereign entities means more allies and thus more numbers. I am not saying if this is reason it happens, but it is a point in which alliances should foster growth through internal guidance. In your third paragraph, you state that if the founder(s) are inept, they should start over. I completely agree. However, every nation is within it's right to create an alliance. Be it between two nations or 1000, the tools of diplomacy, military, and internal function are all acquired knowledge. It can be passed down through education. Founders can be given that second chance to build alliances the correct way. It certainly just seems wrong to say, "well, he is no good, so we will let him and his alliance rot." That just isn't neighborly.

The better part of all protectorate treaties I have ever read usually involve more than just protection. When I founded a short-lived alliance called Imperium (as you know), The Legion (our protector), had a member stationed there in an oversight position to make sure we were running our alliance properly. Furthermore, another member came over and gave us amendments to our guides, showed us effective ways to recruit, and much more. It is more than just protection. Overall, that is a good example of a protector doing their job. Shurukian, if you hadn't the slightest clue how to run an alliance, and you were protected by TPF, and they weren't guiding you, where would TSI be now? How can growth be encouraged if no assistance is given at all? At SPQR, and still a noob at alliance creation, Sparta promised assistance in our treaty to show us how an alliance operations. As Klaus said, we got nothing. Not even protection when we needed it. We have an issue that almost sparked war with the Socialistic Empire, instead of military preparation we got nothing. We had to diffuse the situation ourselves. In otherwords, we were on our own. No one is asking to funnel over recruited members. No one is asking for a mock-Viceroy. Any noob alliance needs a little kick in the doopa to get moving in the right direction. Without it, the alliance is doomed to the ages. However, I think we can agree that is boils down to a case by case basis. As Janax said earlier, the quality of the protector equivocates to how well the alliance will do.

News from Amorica: Our Multi-Party Parliament is underway, with the Amorican Liberal Union claimed by Accalia of Adamo, and one of the two conservative parties claimed by Krisoffer of Kristonion.

Thank you. Alot of work has gone into the alliance up until this point. It seems the work is just being and only gets harder. I like the challenge though, and I hope for future success. And we "in the market" if you will in regards to a protector.

In an old alliance, I had a member that by the name of Rhen Var that tried to coup my government. Anyways, this looks and sounds excellent. Congrats to all signatories on this momentous occasion!
