If you find your alliance at war but don't wish to fight and see your precious nation harmed first, make a topic in your alliance's boards reading:
[i][size="7"][color="#FF0000"]I NOT AGREE WITH THIS WAR[/color][/size][/i]
Then jump to an alliance that is not involved in the conflict.
*note: this works best if you control a substantial part of your alliances nuclear arsenal and your alliance is attacking pre-karma NPO. -

Set your tax rate to the lowest level possible. Citizens hate taxes and if you set the level too high they may revolt and force you out of office, leaving your nation inaccessible.
