  1. This is late, but... in my experience, I think the odds of all damages achieving max effectiveness tend to increase proportionally with the size of your nation.

I think the rule is that underdogs have a chance to occur with any attack below 15%; but how often they occur most probably deoends on NS (tech/infra). At 4000 NS / 1k infra, I can attack with tiny odds every day for a month and never once get the underdog bonus. When I was 30k NS / 5k infra I got underdog maybe 50% of the time. But past 100,000 NS, you guys should expect to be seeing underdog damage with almost every low-odds attack. That is the whole point of underdog attacks - to allow weak nations to inflict some damage against strong nations even when they are losing a war. :P

But I have never had a large nation of my own, so the only way to test that theory is to record the results of your own low odds attacks. It's also possible admin has changed it since I last looked into it. Most of these mechanics were designed back when the super-tier was 10k NS. :v:

  2. An interesting choice.

I remember the first coming of Doom Squad was in many respects equally swift and discreet as Doom Kingdom's departure presently seems, just like the sudden appearance and growth of DBDC. But Doomsphere's membership is well-connected, and I feel as though Planet Bob hasn't felt the last of its collective influence.

Until your next adventure, enjoy the peace of the shadows. ;)

  3. I guess spongebob could have been a *STATIC SOUND* First Class before mako poisoning made him lose his memory and turned him into a sponge.

I mean, Hojo made plenty of weirder creatures than that.

That is what ultimately drove Sephiroth insane.

"Am I... am I the same as these... monsters?!"

  4. Outside of the small realism factor, apparently it is intended to promote users logging in.

But obviously it didn't work in your case. :P

It might be easier for players to understand if admin altered it so that we had to pay a higher interest penalty on our bills (remove the 5000 cap) rather than a lien on our income. It makes sense for creditors to charge interest on debts, but not so much for a creditor to interfere with a nation's actual revenue collections.

I can picture private collections agencies kicking in the doors of the IRS to repossess their office furniture... :v:

  5. Thank you everybody for the well wishes and farewells. I'm just going to have some fun over the next couple of days doing the one thing I have never done in my entire CN career before officially deleting my nation and calling it quits.

No need for regicide. The uncivilized age when a nation's citizenry would rise up to execute their sovereign after neglecting his duties of government for 25 days are in the past. In the modern era, societies watch over their nations in their leader's absence, very often inviting him to return to power to quickly restore all the wonders of their past civilization.

    :P

We all look forward to seeing you again when your mind has been refreshed from all the stresses of your long and storied service on Planet Bob.

Good luck on your journey, and thanks again.
  6. With respect to my peers, I have to say I find the global community's perpetual stigma against young powers to be rather unattractive.

What we forget is that the golden age of Planet Bob was not created by experienced leaders who had already discovered every angle in economics and politics; who were too intelligent to ever make a mistake; and whose ambitions were watered down by years of monotonous service for the sake of another leader's dreams (i.e., "joining an established alliance"). The great events of ages past were very often the direct results of inexperience - not understanding diplomatic protocol, or not being concerned with established political taboos - and the determined efforts of young leaders to overcome their mistakes is what has given us our favorite legends.

History would, in fact, seem to testify that the more "experience" we gather, as alliances, the less action we are willing to take. So my advice will be in contradiction to what every other established power will tell you.

You will never be happy joining your ambitions to an established power simply for the sake of learning the most efficient ways to increase your statistics. If there is a power in existence which seems to share your own ideals, and by that means may amplify your own ambition, then by all means associate with them, so that they may temper your spirit, and you may temper theirs. But if there is no such power, don't ever be discouraged in your quest to achieve something new.

Get rolled with no hope of victory. Go months without full aid slots. Buy 50 cruise missiles, as Hyperonic has been jokingly seriously instructing you. Only being concerned about doing everything "right" will kill you far faster than doing a few things "wrong," but making your every action represent some part of your own dreams. Just remember what you want Independent to stand for, and you can find a way to enjoy the journey even in hardships. I will personally be much happier seeing you do that in your own alliance rather than having you join me simply to die away following my own boring orders. :P

"The micros will inherit the Bob." And if we go by OWF activity, they already have.

  7. Is Independent similar to the old League of Free Nations that served as an ODP bloc between independent countries, or is it a traditional alliance operating as a volunteer society (no mandatory military or economic participation, but a common code of conduct and FA policy)?

Sounds like an interesting enterprise in any case. Good luck in your search for new leaders.

    Commentary
As this weekly update was done manually (via a mobile to boot :P ), the DROP LINE from Sanction Race past was reintroduced to reduce work load. It is currently calculated at exactly 25% of the score of the lowest ranked sanctioned alliance.

Streaks are here calculated by weeks rather than days, as I can only update the data that often (unless another community member decides to participate). This will also give alliances a chance to correct losses before it affects the record, while the numbers will tend to be larger and more stable in their trends.

All errors are deliberate. Feel free to make corrections and suggestions. :P

    Happy 10th anniversary everybody.

  9. That isn't foreboding at all.

I think they were #2 behind Pacifica before this happened; then they had that whole two year guerrilla war thing that didn't do wonders for their growth.

But sure enough here they are again. Good work.

  10. Of the wonders you listed, I think the DRA would pay for itself most efficiently (maybe two and a half months until you start making profit, with your FAC and twenty day tech deals).

Wonders which affect population size, happiness, income, or infrastructure fees are a lot more useful when you reach a larger infra level (significantly amplifying the wonder's benefits); but while you are still small, any of them could take a year to pay for themselves.

Example: let's say you buy the stock market. It gives a $10 boost to income, but since you can only tax 28% of that income, your real profit is 2.8 per working citizen per day. You have a working population of about 20k at your current size, so daily profit is 56,000. Divide that into what the wonder cost you (30mil), and you discover it would take 535 days for it to pay for itself at your current size (one and a half years).

Obviously you aren't going to stay at 2k infra for a whole year, but the point is made that straight infra will probably pay for itself more quickly. So, as long as you don't think war is likely for your nation, I would advise first buying up to 5k infrastructure, which is the point you will be able to max out economic improvements. That investment will pay for itself more quickly than a wonder, at which point you can start making econ wonder purchases while still saving a warchest and a jump surplus.

The strategy might be a little different if you were expecting war (there is an annual rhythm to safe wonder purchases for small and mid-size military nations). But even if you aren't expecting to ever fight anybody, don't go beyond 5k infra without at least an MP and preferably SDI.

Though I'm sure there are plenty of dissenters to my view. :P

  11. "But what do we mean by the [LCNR] Revolution? Do we mean the [LCNR] war? The Revolution was effected before the war commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments, of their duties and obligations... This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people was the real [LCNR] Revolution."

    - Blopy Adams

  12. This could only end in Walford leading NONE to final victory. :P

There was a brief time in the beginning when there were no official alliances (no in-game affiliation option), but everyone organized themselves and coordinated on forums regardless. The better organized of the smaller AA's would probably choose that option over a forced merger - or if literally placed on an AA against their will would attempt to sabotage it.

But,I actually like the idea of going back to the no-affiliation days. It would add some small amount of uncertainty and perhaps could enhance the role of individual nations. :)

  13. I think he means that the Canadian teams in the American league have [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Championship]a championship exclusive to themselves[/url], whereas in hockey and baseball Canadian teams just compete for the same title as US teams.

Maybe reflective of the general popularity of each of the sports. If you go by television ratings, less than a million people could tell you who the last MLS champion was, so why not have a separate championship. But MLB and NHL titles are considered much more prestigious. :P
