  1. <Snip>

I was going to write a longer reply to this, but ES pretty much summed it up. The Vox movement represented (and created) a dynamic swing in public opinion. Without it, even assuming a secret cabal of leaders with brilliant plans and whatnot, there wouldn't have been the general public dissatisfaction necessary to bring things to a head quite like this. Feet would've been drug, plans postponed, and Hegemony spies would've almost certainly picked off one "secret cabal" member after another. Like them or not (I doubt they care), Vox put revolution on the fast track.

  2. I do not call you weak for holding certain beliefs, I call you tyrannical for wanting to force them into all others at the point of a sword.

Pot, kettle. Kettle, pot. Although Vlad likes to force others at the point of both a pen AND a sword.

I disagree that our actions have been in any way imperialistic.

Oh, no, it's not imperialistic to build an empire. *rolls eyes*

Actually, I might agree to some extent, on this one. It is directly opposing the imperialistic objective to make so many people dislike you so much that this sort of thing happens. You're right. The empire was a fluke. You were really self-destructive! Maybe someone can get you a therapist.

Edit: (OOC) Frankly, I'm not paying all that much attention to things this time around, so don't expect much in the way of back-and-forth from me. I know it's disappointing, but I just have other things I'd rather be sinking the time into right now, than reading and rereading this sort of thing. ;)

  3. I was a member of NPO for a very long time and I find it very hard to digest this sickening display of gangbanging on my former alliance.

Well, they've sort of set the standard, as far as that subject goes. It'd almost be rude not to.

Anyways, I'm off to Iceland for a week. I hope you all have fun kicking an alliance when its down.

CN history shows that's exactly when you're supposed to kick them. Then you get to make outrageous demands!

  4. And more importantly if you are feeling oppressed by a non-democratic government its very easy to just go join another alliance. In real life that is much more complicated. That in a nutshell is why I support Democracy in RL but oppose it in CN. My #1 rule if I were to join another alliance is that there cannot be regular elections for the top level of leadership in that alliance whether it is an Emperor, Regent, Triumvirate, Council or some other variation. The long term relationships cultivated by leaders are vital to the well-being of an alliance and any change in leadership is a risk. There should definitely be a recourse for removing bad leaders but it should require extraordinary circumstances, not just a loss of popularity.

The thing is, "extraordinary circumstances" typically mean that the damage has already been done. NpO, for instance, got rid of ES due to "extraordinary circumstances," but it didn't help. A "bad" leader in an autocracy is a death sentence. A "bad" leader in a democracy is not.

The election you speak of consisted of barely a dozen votes and many backroom conversations and manipulations took place prior to the final tally. Ivan Moldavi was never the most popular member of the Orders leadership, in any of its incarnations. He was respected and carried a certain charisma but being friends with everyone and "popular" were never his strengths.

An election is an election, and you describe what sounds a lot like political discussions prior to an election. I gasp in shock and surprise. I assumed your leaders popped full-grown from the head of Zeus. ;)

  5. You could have fooled me, as all of your posts I have noticed are only some reaction to some NPO or NPO friendly post.

Oh, yeah, a classic. I like your efforts, I really do.

Well, it's true I post a lot in threads NPO posts in, but that's probably because I hold an opinion contrary to theirs, and, well, they post in a lot of threads. ;)

Classics generally have a ring of truth to them. Also, as to the "not much trying," I meant that it doesn't really require much effort. I totally passed all my English courses, and I'm a capable typist. Therefore, all I'd have to do is spot foolishness in posts, and sometimes it's to the point that I feel I could do that with my monitor off.

  6. Sometimes the rerolls consider themselves at a continued state of war due to the fact that the "winners" are the ones holding grudges.

    Hmm, that sounds familiar.

A true re roll can never be truly known. Its the "little" things that give them away,...like the continuation of their previous character's path under a different alias. As such, original characters baggage is carried only because the "new" character never was new in essence.

The "little" things, like IP addresses? And please don't tell me nobody keeps lists.

  7. Wow, such spin. Ok, do you realize that I've been with the Order for five years now? No one "taught" me this, it's merely what I have observed throughout the years.

You learned from observation. So, observation taught you, and the Pacifica community that you observed taught you. I fail to see how you've refuted anything I've said. I was just using you as an example to Imhotep, honestly. Don't blame me for quoting your post. You wrote it. I'm sure you'll see it enough in the future to rue your honesty in writing it. ;)

A good example would be the very thing we're talking about. What happened some months after Emperor Ivan signed this treaty with GATO? They betrayed us at the onset of the Great Patriotic War. My comments merely point out the fact that all alliances are temporary. But do go on assuming differently, young one.

Again, you seem to just reinforce my point. From your point of view, Pacifica apparently intends to betray its allies, and is upset if/when they get to it first. What, that isn't fair? (I don't have firsthand information about the GPW, and I imagine any research I'd do would just be biased one way or another, so I'll have to take others' words for it. From your POV, that seems to be what's being said, though.)

Edit: This tangental discussion is a good bit off-topic, though, so if you want to continue it, we can either start a new thread, go to one that addresses this, or to PMs. Feel free to comment here again, if you want the last word, but I won't be replying further in this one, because there are plenty of threads already that cover this subject matter.

  8. I know you do and I couldn't care less.

Take a number and wait in the line,...its long though its been forming for 5 years.

In the time being, you can continue to scrutinize every NPO post you find on the board, always trying to find some angle of critique. Have fun, I know I do seeing you go. Like the dedication. Also,..what re roll are you if I may inquire?

About the identity of the starter of this topic. I never liked re rolls, in this game, they always turned out to be some bad losers with a grudge.

Emperor Ivan has left us. The end.

Oh, I'm sure I don't even look at the vast majority, and honestly, there's not that much trying involved. Typically it's pretty clear what's wrong in a post I critique. Also, just for the record, I'm not a reroll.

As to whether or not Imhotep's the same player as Ivan, I could care less, and I'm not even sure it's relevant. One final note: I think it's entirely possible that you see so many "bad losers with a grudge" because there are so many "bad winners with a grudge" here.

  9. It has always been my opinion that maintaining a viable enemy is conducive to strong gameplay overall for everyone, not just the "winning" side. My philosophy on that subject has passed to dust though so it doesn't matter.

When you say things like this, I can't figure out why we're arguing. ;) The boldfaced part, though, implies you're a dead hero. I'm at least tossing caltrops on the ground and hoping for the best.

The fact that it is how you say either espouses the correctness of those in control or the futility of opposition, either way, I can not support the philosophy of a group such as Vox Populi simply because they do not appear to have a sufficient grasp of the reality of the situation.

The two statements in the above quotes appear to be quite at odds. I suppose the latter quote postdates your philosophical surrender?

I believe that Vox has the same grasp of the reality of the situation that I do, though I can't say for certain without going back onto IRC and asking them, and I'm going to go to bed instead. ;) That reality is that, within the war mechanics of the game, it's currently impossible to present a viable opposition to the hegemony (it's irrelevant who's put at the center of it, to be honest, as none has much relative say), because of the massive age/size imbalance. It can't be overcome while the establishment continues to cut the legs out from under any effort to build a non-treatied force (not even an opposed force, necessarily) up to any real strength (not necessarily "dangerous" strength, either). Therefore, alternative methods of opposition are used.

Actually, the above is probably why there are so many more small alliances lately. It's easier to be the small mammals beneath the dinosaurs' notice, stay out of their way, and wait for the ice age to kill them off.

  10. You think if CyberNations ceased to be that the Order would as well? You're quite mistaken.

As it is constituted in CN, which is the only way it matters in CN, yes. From the point of view of "game/alliance" interaction, nothing further is relevant. If it were, many of NPO's victories in war have just been rendered completely irrelevant, as they accomplished nothing by them.

  11. The Cyberverse was built on conflict, it has choked and become stagnant on peace. The creation of an "enemy" is essential to the development of culture.

    In that we agree.

The treaty web is bad, because it stagnates. It eliminates the possibility of an enemy, and in and of itself, becomes one, but one in a position of ultimate power. The game is currently played more on TE than here. Why? Because here, there is too much order. Chaos is necessary.

  12. How do you make such an extrapolation? Do you have gas?

Well, it seems this is what is being taught these days:

Allies are just the people who haven't gotten around to betraying you yet. Just a little something I've learned over the years.

So perhaps Pacifica has lost her way, or her education system sucks. Or perhaps it's standard operating procedure.

  13. If one has sufficient will then he has no need to give in to the temptations of subjugation, he simply wills himself into position to act. Those with insufficient will bend to their betters.

Then so much for empires and autocracies. You pretty much just said they're composed of losers, right?

Also, I'd argue that any position is a position from which to act, especially in a game where most action is words. This becomes even more true when one measures success in other ways than pixels.
