They have also laughed and shared stories of nations burning only to be rebuilt to burn again. These are the Comrades that I will stand by until the end of my nation and to all those who decry our way of doing things, $%&@ you and the horse you rode in on. We are the NPO and we are here to stay. Please enjoy the following articles written in the Media Bunker and have a great day! Brennan, Imperial Officer News and Propaganda A Heart-Warming story: How MK and NPO learn from each other in the Battlefield Any showdown between two archetype Chaotic evil good and Lawful evil good characters is bound to create an explosive situation, not merely for the stunning combination of two combatants that are so similar yet so different, but also for the curious bond that is formed between them through spilt blood. Such is not easy to see from a surface glance. Where other pairs of warriors often find in combat the opportunity to form a relationship, these two archetypes instead seem to egg each other on evermore, their intolerance for the other increasing, each sharing similar views about the other being an incessant complaint machine which uses henchmen of questionable quality as meatshields. Yet, a deeper investigation quickly reveals just how much each is grudgingly learning from their foe, despite fervent denials of any such acknowledgement. These subtle, and perhaps even subconscious changes, can however be seen in the behaviour of both combatants. Pacifica's Upper Tier. One area of such a sharing of attitudes lies in how the NPO conducts upper tier fighting. Having learnt from the helpful – and plentiful – advice MK, the NPO has fielded a significant fighting force to be tested by the DH coalition. The kind nations of Umbrella and MK have fought over 90 Pacificans over 50k NS, and gently helped them down to a lower range, where their wonders and tech levels give them an easier tight beating opponents, and where they can have fun. The sacrifice that this has meant for Doomhouse cannot be overstated; bringing our soldiers down, along with another 48 nations from the 32k+ range, has meant that Umbrella and the Kingdom have removed over two-thirds of nations in those ranges, thus depriving themselves of the chance for a good fight – all for the sake of helping those nations have fun. Thanks to Pacifican foresight however, a small portion of the NPO's upper tier has been left intact in peace-mode, forming the perfect present for celebrating a possible 4 month anniversary of this war. This represents an interesting convergence of thought. Whilst rarely acknowledged in public, both sides have come to hold the same reverence for the chaotic nature of destructive conflict, whilst at the same time holding a narcissistic view of their own voices, seeking to outdo each other in loudness. Great convergence. Nowhere is this convergence more apparent than in the usage of long-term peace mode. At the start of the conflict, MK embraced the tactic in a limited fashion for nations over 500 tech, keeping the equivalent of 6.06% of total nations, at an average of 3,067 tech each, in Peace Mode from January to the end of April. Comparable statistics for the NPO lie at 11.3% with an average tech of 4,036.8 – a fairly material difference. However, having the highly effective example of Pacifica to follow, MK soon begun closing the gap. For similar nations having denied themselves the horrors of war for a whole 2 months, MK lies at 12.12% (2,794 tech avg) and NPO at 15.86% (3,345 tech avg). When taken to those that have merely given up for the entire month of April, it is neck and neck at 17.57% for MK and 18.69% for the NPO, with the average tech level also close, at 2,784 and 3,067 respectively. (It should be noted that these statistics are for fighting nations only, and do not include MK's “tech banks” who are incapable of putting up a fight for technical reasons (how well would you fight with 10k infra and no tech?); with it, their percentage goes up to 9.69% since the start of the war, 16.36% since February and 22.42% for the past month – actually overtaking the Pacific in usage of long-term peace-mode over the last two months - but that comparison is unfair to MK, given NPO's lack of similarly incapable nations. These comparisons also exclude the brave soldiers on both sides who have been beaten down to near zi or zt levels and their – now tiny – nations have fled to peace for respite.) Both alliances also share the same tender, protective feeling towards their charges; with the nations selected to forgo the pleasures of combat being the ones less able to face it. Both show a high level of consideration towards under-teched and dead weight inactive nations, wise in the knowledge that combat will be much less fun for them given their disadvantages. Where other alliances might implement a ruthless eugenics programme of throwing everyone to the wolves and aiming for the survival of the fittest, MK is following Pacifica's lead in creating a more tolerant society, where even those less able nations can have a fair chance at the world. And therein lies the most magnificent example of the power that a clash two similar yet opposing forces hold. With each bound to nip away at all that opposes them, only that which is similar – those bizarrely shared visions – has the ability to remain standing. The agreement will be added on to the already existing 743 days since the NPO last declared war on somebody, and has been met with widespread dismay from more warlike elements of the Pacific which claim that policy changes first enacted under Imperator Emeritus Cortath's administration 2 years ago have resulted in a significant prince inflation for fresh children by removing traditional supply sources such as invading other alliances. Internationally however, the move has been recognized as a shrewd diplomatic move that not only prevents the NPO from entering the conflict that officially ended 51 days ago, but also one that may well prevent them from entering any future conflict well into November, as it diminishes the opportunity that they may be pre-emptively attacked for not entering it fast enough. Prominent supporters within the Pacific include parts of the “league of 22”, a collection of lobbyists and politicians representing the interests of 22 member states over 50k NS, who are now participating in the final, 21 day assault against the superior forces of an unidentified Doomhouse position. Unofficial sources state that these states hope their struggle will bring attention to the plight of 90 of their former 50k+ comrades, who have all fought Doomhouse without gaining any recognition for their heroic actions. When approached about their motives, an anonymous spokesman stated: “It's war, we just want to finally blow some *&#@* up.” Written by Letum The Pacific Press - A jackboot on the pulse of world events. Throughout most days, we here at the NPO have a wonderful Broadcasting Department that plays music to keep us entertained. But now with the return of Bootleg Radio, the entertainment the NPO can provide is so so much more. To quote one of my colleagues, Kean:
Bootleg Radio began as a simple idea from, at the time, Imperial Officer Brehon . He wanted to do something more with the Pacifican radio, perhaps even start hid very own show. After many hours of trial and error, he was finally able to get a show that would stay connected, and broadcast clearly. At first, this project was mainly focused on just another addition to the royal pacifican ball, but when the show aired, it had peaked enough listeners to show that people were truly interested in the show, and thus it was continued. When I talked to Imperial Regent Brehon about Bootleg, I asked him why he does it, Was it just something for fun? Was there a purpose? Quote <Brehon[NPO]> First and foremost I do it for fun. I think it is a great way for all of us on Planet Bob to get to know each other a bit more, cut the seriously business that dominates everything and realize we are all pretty much the same. Well maybe not Brennan, but everyone else
As the Bootleg Radio continues to expand, members of all different types of alliances have come to listen to the broadcasts. We wish to extend an invitation to those interested in Bootleg Radio to check it out; live shows air Thursday & Sunday evenings from 8p to Midnight CST. Also if you are interested in being a guest on the show or want to request a specific topic to be discussed, head over to the NPO forums and look for the Bootleg Rumor Mill thread. Written by Paintball464 The Pacific Press - A jackboot on the pulse of world events. That was the choice that we were forced to make on the evening of January 24 as the forces of Doom House rode to war against Pacifica. As Pacifica reeled with the cheap sucker punches landed by the vile brutes of Doom House, there was no doubt in our minds that you would come. Come you did with your heads held high and your fists raised in defiance of the pure and total demagoguery that has gripped our world. As Pacifica staggered under the lash of war, you held Her firm. Together we advanced against the bloody tyrants. Together we will crush them. It has been a month since the outbreak of hostilities, and we are still fighting with no end in sight. I will not lie to you; we face a long and perilous journey against our enemy. We will face it together. We will overcome any obstacle, face any danger. We will not be stopped. We will not fail. We are together as one, united in a common cause, untied by friendship and united in blood. It is a bond that will never break. It is a bond that will only be strengthened by this war. Already individual Pacifican's are promising that once this war has ended, regardless of the outcome, we will help you, our valiant and noble friends, rebuild. Pacifica owes you a debt of honour, and it is a debt that we will repay. We have many more days of strife as we journey along the road to complete and total victory over Doom House. We will march together without hesitation into the darkest night. We will share the pain. We will share the terror. Once that journey is at an end, and we are basking in the pleasant meadows and warming dawn of victory. We will share the greatest of all rewards. The satisfaction of knowing that as one united entity we stood against forces that sought to enslave us. That in one united voice, we shouted "NO! YOU WILL NOT!" Keep fighting the good fight. We stand here with you. Let us march through this horrifying night towards the dawn of victory. Written by galw708 The Pacific Press - A jackboot on the pulse of world events. Proudly Part of PNN The Negative Effects of Mushroom Fumes Recently, scientists at the Pacifican Research Institute concluded a study on the effects of shrooms on individuals. The study took place over several years and the Institute allowed the Pacific Press to get an inside look into some of the results from the study. “One of the big consequences of prolonged exposure to shroom fumes is hypocrisy. Individuals who surround themselves with mushrooms have a tendency to say or act in one manner and, later, they will act in a completely different manner,” wrote one top scientist involved in the study. The study began around the time of the War of Armageddon, also referred to as the Karma War. The study shows several examples of hypocrisy at this time in Cybernations history. Archon, the King of the Mushroom Kingdom at the time, became what was to be known as the Voice of Karma for the Karma coalition. He made several speeches in his role. In one such speech given in April 2009, he stated,
We will not sink into a smear war with them. Their sins are long, and they are known to us all. We will fight this war with no joy, and we will fight it with honor and dignity. We will not impose draconian terms, but we will not tolerate such underhanded tactics being employed against us.
A few months later, in July 2009, the New Pacific Order surrendered to the forces of Karma. In the surrender, the New Pacific Order was given the largest and harshest terms ever seen on Planet Bob. The study continued to show examples of hypocrisy throughout the Kingdom’s history. Fast-forward to January 2010, The Order of the Paradox preemptively attacked the Complaints and Grievances Union. This is a bloc to which the Mushroom Kingdom belonged. Members from all over the Kingdom rushed to the OWF to decry the attack. One member of the Kingdom, Trace of the Malazan Empire, wrote, “Way to attack someone who isn't involved. I heard about this, but I must admit, I never thought you would actually go through with something so ridiculous.” Trace also responded later to accusations that CnG would attack TOP anyway by declaring, “Only if you attacked one of our allies. When we like, had a treaty obligation to enter. It's how most people roll.” Archon, later solidified these remarks in a speech to the citizens of Planet Bob during the TOP-CnG War. In response to a possible attack on TOP by the Kingdom, Archon wrote, “Had TIFDTT not wished to engage the Union, or had they wished to avoid the perceived threat, not attacking us or our allies would have been a really simple way to achieve this.” Another member of the Kingdom, Tamerlane of Tamerlonia rote, “Honor except when politically convenient. NIIIIIICCCCEEEEE. I look forward to watching your stats fall and your nations glow.” Tamerlane also wrote, “We'd fight anyone provided we had the CB for the job, don't take it personally.” Many others of the Mushroom Kingdom decried the flimsy CB and called for TOP’s stats on a platter. Here we see that the hypocrisy caused by prolonged exposure to shrooms is quite evident. A year ago, preemptive attacks were wrong, attacking alliances that are not involved in a conflict is a horrible idea, and that CBs were necessary in order to engage an alliance. Yet today, we have seen that the hypocrites over at the Kingdom will now declare war on an alliance without a CB and they will declare on an alliance that is not involved in the current conflict. The Pacifican Research Institute would like to take this time to warn fellow Pacificans over the dangers of fumes from mushrooms. Exposure can lead to serious mental and health defects including, as made evident in the study: Being Hypocrites. Written by Paintball464 The Pacific Press - A jackboot on the pulse of world events. Proudly Part of PNN Can’t get enough of that NPO stuff You may or may not have noticed, but the New Pacific Order has been receiving a lot of attention from the Doom House alliances recently. From the relentless trolling and provocation to the current war, it seems that the Great Homogenous Blob that is MK, GOONS, Umbrella and co. seemingly can’t get enough of us. Even a cursory trawl through the OWF will reveal hundreds of comments deriding us, baiting us, insulting us and generally hating us. I wonder why? We’ve proved time and time again that we’re not the evil bogeymen portrayed by the tired routines of DH’s Karma cheerleaders. We’ve not been waiting in the wings, ready to pounce on the unwary as part of some fictional Ordinance of Orders, just as much as we’ve not been deliberately neutral, fending off all comers with haughty distain. We’ve paid our dues, admitted and apologised for any actions we may have taken when we ruled Planet Bob and, to the best of our abilities, put this ancient history behind us in favour of a more enlightened and multi-polar future. So I ask again - why the hate? To quote a recent comment on OWF: “Man, it must be awesome to be in Pacifica. This entire planet rotates around them. No matter what, no matter their political position or nation strengths, the whole of the planet just spins around their center. Bravo my Red brothers. If indeed everything dies....you will always stand tall in the history books as being the be all and end all of the Bobian politics and policy.” The NPO, in common it must be said with many other alliances, is a community. We have the self-control and discipline to exist without the need for an external catalyst. But does DH enjoy those same qualities? I put it to you, discerning reader, that DH is nothing without the unifying force that is their hatred of us. Let us consider what Planet Bob would be like if DH succeeds in their stated objective of eradicating the NPO. The chances are that our noble allies would either roll with us or eventually surrender and DH would reign supreme. But what then? Without wishing any disrespect to any other alliance, who could step forward to fill our shoes? Who could DH focus their bile on? Who, to be blunt, could they hate next to such an extent as to justify their existence? Is this a case of yin and yang? I’m afraid it’s not that simple. The NPO will live on regardless, irrespective of what other alliances think of us, but can the same be said for the haters? Perhaps the answer lies in one of the more recent podcasts from the guys at the excellent CN Talkshow. During an interview with Emperor Cortath it was freely admitted that before they declared on the NPO, members of DH were actually fighting amongst themselves. Many of DH’s detractors have gone to great lengths to paint them as rowdy teens with low attention spans, but could it be that this attempt at PR spin is actually true? In short, does DH hate us, because they need us? For that is what the NPO does – it keeps DH alive. It stops them from turning on one another. We are the foundations upon which the Doom House is built. This is our strength, and DH, your weakness. Tl:dr - Everything must die? Be careful what you wish for kid. The circumstances are well known. On January 24, 2011 the forces of Doom House maliciously and with out cause attacked Pacifican homes, Pacifican women and Pacifican children. As their hordes of vile brutes ran amok over our beautiful country side, raping and pillaging as they went. A great Lady cried in pain and horror. Never did She expect that so honourable and gentle person as Herself would ever be treated in such a foul manner. However, given the actions and motivations of these savage brutes, should we have expected anything better of them? As the violence grew around her, the Lady's cries of pain turned to battle cries of just and righteous anger. The Lady is calling Comrades, answer her call. Many ask why the Doom House attacked us? Why would they move against Pacifica? Why would they risk or fury? The answer is this, they hate us. They are a sack of hate, a skin of hate. They hate that something exists that is bigger and better than they could ever hope to be. They wish to destroy that noble thing like a petulant child. Well Comrades, let them choke on their hate. Let it destroy them. We have known that Doom House is a home of hate and hypocrisy. We have watched as they mismanaged world affairs, and stumbled from one Foreign Affairs scandal to the next. Now it is on display for the world to see in their villainous actions of the 24th. The OWF, normally a hot bed of anti-Pacifican thought, has expressed condemnation of Doom House's actions. We are in the right Comrades. We have their sympathy. We have won the PR War. Now it is time to win the war. What our foes have failed to realize time and time again is that we are the best. That we will take their cheap sucker punch and come back stronger than ever before. You see Comrade, they will never destroy what Pacifica is. Pacifica is an idea. An idea that all nations are equal, that all nations strive to accomplish the same goal. An idea that we must all toil and strive together. This is something that these villains will never be. Pacifica is an idea, and ideas are bulletproof. So what happens next. We fight Comrades. We shed our blood, sweat and tears. We fight with ever growing strength on all fields. We fight with ever growing confidence. Know that our fight is just and right. We are fighting against pure incompetence, pure demagoguery, pure hypocrisy, and pure hate. They are contemptible. No correction Comrade, they are beneath our contempt. Our valiant and noble allies will rally to the cause. Together in a wave of righteous and noble fury WE WILL CRUSH THEM beneath the heels of our jackboots. This will be a long fight Comrades. We have many days of trials ahead. We will face them like the Pacifican's we are. I have no doubt how this will end. It WILL end with our triumph over these vile and villainous vandals. Do you know why? I'll tell you why! We are not just going to stomp them flat, we are going to hold them by the nose and kick them in the ass. We are going to rip out their living entrails and use them the grease the wheels of our war machine. We are going to murder them. Murder them by the bushel. We are going to make them stand up on their urine soaked hind legs and scream in horror “Not the bloody Pacificans again!” We are going to completely and utterly destroy them with our courage, our devotion and our mighty fury. We are going to show them that treachery has a price. We are going to make them pay it. Go forth brave Pacifican, do your duty and bring our wrath to our enemies, and know: That if you stagger, we are here. That if you fall, we are here. That in your pain, we are here. That in your suffering, we are here. That in your victory, we are here. Never doubt: WE ARE HERE! Written by galw708 The Pacific Press - A jackboot on the pulse of world events. Proudly part of PNN Why YOU are Next There is a school of thought that puts forth the argument that this world of ours, with its nations, alliances, resources and wonders, is nothing more than an artificial construct. Subscribers to this philosophy believe that the actions that we take as rulers of our individual nations are merely part of some virtual geo-political contest. To be blunt, our tech deals, trade rings, diplomacy and wars are all part of some gigantic game. To these believers, we are not the mighty kings, presidents and emperors we think we are, but merely puppets at the hands of mysterious players – shadowy manipulators lurking in the background, referred in some esoteric tomes as ‘OOC’. This belief has been debated many times before by scribes with far more ability than I, so why bring this up now when our focus is on the more pressing matter of war? Because, while arguments rage over the officially stated casus belli of this conflict, certain followers of the ‘game’ philosophy have admitted that the real reason for the attack on Pacifica is that they are bored. And some people, when they get bored, start breaking things:-
KILL EVERYTHING! THE CN HOLOCAUST BEGINS

You don't realize that literally, EVERYTHING MUST DIE. If you wish to provide boredom and peace to planet Bob, you will seal your fate with your nemesis. War and fun are a virus, and this entire planet will be plagued.

I like this. Lets get an eternal war going, it will keep the plebes interested in Bob and politics.
Anyone trawling the OWF will find hundreds more comments, and even entire threads, dedicated to this destructive train of thought. Some of these players have built their improvements and have a full compliment of wonders; they have more tech than they know what to do with and have infra coming out of their ears. Groaning with unused nukes, their soldiers outnumber the total working population of your nation a thousand-fold and they have a war chest large enough to buy half of Bob. Craving more stimulation they have nothing left but war. Let this be a warning to those of you who do not possess the luxury of a huge, years old nation. While you may still enjoy the challenge of building up your realm, making contact with the wider world and doing a little skirmishing, be aware that the warmongers sated these desires ages ago. And so they are attacking the NPO, simply for the sake of entertainment. And if they succeed in their stated desire of obliterating us then they will grow bored again – and again – and again. If you are lucky they will turn on each other before you come to their attention, but otherwise, eventually, you will be next. It looked as though Mardi Gra had come early until one realized that the dots and wedges represented mass troop movements in the ongoing global war that was even now sweeping around to envelop the globe. Still, the lone figure standing upon a raised platform at the back of the room mused, the screen would look right at home in a gay pride parade. Sighing he turned back to the screen. The wait was killing him, over forty hours after the start of hostilities and he still sat waiting for an attack or orders to strike. All he could do until then was tell his men to dig in along the most likely fronts and wait. A flurry of activity off to his right caused him to turn, as he did so he glanced across the neatly spaced rows of work stations arrayed between the platform on which he stood and the massive screen on the far wall. A young soldier ascended the stair case off to his right taking the stairs two at a time, saluting before he approached. A piece of paper traded hands, then the soldier descended the stairs vanishing into the sea of activity below. Leaning a hip on the railing ringing the platform he quickly read the short note. Intelligence reports that Goon forces assaulting the city of Ravnica are over extended. You are hereby ordered to assault Mulletropolis with all possible haste. Cut off their lead units and annihilate them. -Milcom Smiling to him self he swept down the stairs and strode over to one of the work stations. The waiting game had finally ended. The New Pacific Order had been lured into false sense of hope that the Enemy would tolerate the era of Peace, Strength, and Prosperity promised by Pacificans, and they paid, they did, for such delusion; now, the Enemy’s vile intentions are unmasked, they wanted war, they wanted destruction and havoc. And so Pacifica is obliged to take up the fight for her freedom yet again. Although the NPO High Command made certain that all nations serving the Emperor are ever vigilant for the day in which their service may be required, admittedly the sudden attack still sent a reeling shockwave throughout Pacifica’s defensive line. Not because Pacificans slacked their warlike watchfulness from the long peace, certainly not, it is rather because an unprovoked attack is the least they expected from their adversaries – they are trained to fight a war, not a sneak attack. Cybernations have rarely witnessed such blatant aggression by established alliances. However, morale is generally high in Pacifican hegemony. With this war a new atmosphere among Pacificans is introduced. After the brutal struggles for months in Karma War, NPO adopts a sense that wars in Planet Bob have become an entertainment for them. It is after all a Cyberverse without stability and protection after the so-called Karma Coalition won the war, and in such a decentralized, anarchical realm, Pacificans developed a fatalistic acceptance of uncertainty in nature of post-Karma warfare. Anything can happen, especially the unthinkable events like military defeat of the Order. Then why so serious? Pacificans have learned to stop worrying and love the bombs. Threads are created in NPO internal forums, joking and teasing with each other about the sport-like exploits in ongoing war. One boasted collection of ridiculous messages from the enemy, while another offered awesome Battle Reports. Such as: or and Surely, the war is still too soon to dictate the winner, or even to agree on who has the upper hand right now. But one thing is certain: Pacificans are and will be carrying the good fights until they are instructed by their Emperor to halt their fury upon the Enemy. Some alliances have been evidently deluded into assumption that Pacifica is sleeping, they falsely believed that they could poke to kill the dragon with their pathetic stick, and now they are facing the rekindled might and spirit of the New Pacific Order. It will take much more than a sneak attack to break the Pacifican defense. Written by Thomas Richmond The Pacific Press - A jackboot on the pulse of world events. The Return of New Reverie and the Introduction of Skynet The Mushroom Kingdom’s Flagging New Pacific Order wins gold in wonder growth CN: A year in review Thessaly-What gives? The mystery surrounding one of Pacifica’s most promising friends might well be solved, after the seemingly defunct protectorate was declared alive and well. Questions were first raised when a former Thessaly member applied for Pacifican membership, claiming that Thessaly had disbanded. This sudden and disappointing news caused much scratching of heads, leading one Imperial Ambassador to contact (former) monarch Karolina – who gave this response:
“Basically, RL is getting really heavy and nobody was really stepping up and offering to help. I tried really hard to get people involved, but nothing came of it. You guys were great protectors; it's nothing to do with NPO. Just didn't have any help, that's all.”
However, within days of this, hopes were raised of a new dawn for the alliance, after it was announced on the CN forums that Thessaly was still active, albeit in an imperial, rather than monarchical form. New Emperor The Keeper wrote:
“Well, I’d like to start off by saying that we at Thessaly have been busy over the last few days. To answer any suspicions, Karolina has left Thessaly, but no we are not disbanding. We are continuing on with the protection of NPO.”
The Keeper went on to announce the opening of a new forum, and the raising of a new charter, with himself as Emperor, Chief as Minister of Foreign Affairs and NoMutantAlloud as Minister of Internal Affairs. So what’s the story behind all this? Your humble correspondent was lucky enough to be granted an audience with Thessaly’s new emperor during a recent state visit to Francograd, and has been able to shed some light on the mystery… So what happened? I asked. We all know that Karolina left Thessaly. We all supposed the alliance to have folded, until its rebirth was announced on the OWF, but can you elaborate? What's the history behind all this?
“I will start by saying what exactly happened. Karolina had been working hard with recruitment and other alliance affairs, she had mentioned that she needed more active and willing membership but never actually went as far as to ask me for more help (I was tetrarch of military affairs at the time). On the 30th of December I signed on to go about my daily business and had a message from Karolina saying the workload had gotten to be to much and that she wanted to disband the alliance. That’s how her leaving came about.” “After reading Karolina's message I decided to take control of the alliance and at the very least find whatever membership remained in the AA a safe home. I was surprised to find that there were still 17 members in the AA. After consulting with many friends and our allies here at NPO I decided I would take control and do my best to keep Thessaly alive.”
When, how and why did you decide to carry on with Thessaly, rather than start a new alliance?
“I decided about 1 hour after I read the disbandment notice that I would keep Thessaly going. Too much effort had gone into Thessaly for me to just watch it disband. I was planning to make my own alliance for some time before this issue but it wasn’t a plan that would be implemented for some time... and I figured ‘here is a foundation already laid out and ready! Why go through all the extra work?’ So I made us some new forums, got all the government staff settled and here we are today!”
What factors drove the change from a Greek-themed monarchy to the Imperial style alliance we see today?
“To be completely honest, I am just more comfortable with imperial style governments. I also had to make a new charter so I decided to bend a few things to make Thessaly in my eyes more likely to succeed.”
What is the NPO doing to help Thessaly get off the ground?
“NPO has been a great help, providing support in many different ways, their members and government have been contributing in many ways: their graphics department has done some fantastic work for us, they are providing a great tech deal base for whenever we need a deal and they are always more then willing to give me all sorts of advice... not to mention they are superb protection!"
Looking to the future - apart from aid, what does Thessaly expect from the NPO, and what does the NPO expect from Thessaly?
"I can’t speak on behalf of NPO but as far as Thessaly's expectations go, we can’t ask for more then we already have. NPO has been great to Thessaly and myself and we only hope things will continue this way for a long time."
I was also privileged to snatch a few brief words from Minister of Internal Affairs NoMutantAllowed, who concurred:
“I agree, Thessaly wouldn't be here if it wasn't for NPO.”
It seems that this fledgling alliance has indeed found a great protector and mentor in the New Pacific Order – and a darned friendly one too, if Imperial Ambassador Rogal Dorn’s response is typical of Pacifica’s goodwill towards them:
“I think Thessaly's a great group of people. I frequent their forums and it's always a good experience!”
So will this new Thessaly last longer than the previous regime? Will they prove to be solid and stalwart associates of Pacifica in return for the help that we have given them? If this correspondent was a betting man, he’d put money on it! New Reverie is a man of a interesting history. Among other things, he once challenged the New Pacific Order for a Red Senate seat and eventually became a contributing member to the Order as Military Intelligence Director. In his time at the New Pacific Order, he began to develop an instrument known as Skynet. The system was to be used to enhance the coordination of the military. After New Reverie left the New Pacific Order, he became inactive to our population, but his work on Skynet continued. "Around the time of the big war against the NPO and later the war against TOP I had developed SkyNet to a point where I felt it to be unmatched in terms of alliance and multi alliance warfare, logistics, banking, and intelligence gathering." New Reverie then began to offer his system to various alliances and blocs in hopes that he could find a worth home for the creation he spent so long on. It was originally offered to the Complaints and Grievances bloc. However, the bloc according to New Reverie, "...never expressed enough interest in the system for me to finalize it for them." It was then offered to Mushroom Kingdom. MK, however, also did not commit to the system. The man behind the system then held an auction to the alliances of the world to see who would welcome him and his creation. "And so as an old dog with perhaps few friends left due to my self imposed obscurity I am now seeking a return to form. A return to what I remember as excitement and community. To do this I require one thing, let me work for your alliance. Let me be in change of the logistics of your alliance. My motivation is just that I want to see a labor of love succeed. Let me bring your military, banking, alliance relations, your thoughts on coordination into the 21st century. I promise there is nothing else like what I am about to show you." And so the auction began. A wide variety of alliance, both large and small, immediately starting putting offers on the table. Among these alliances were Nueva Vida, the Cult of Justitia, GATO, New Sith Order, and Random Insanity Alliance. The Mushroom Kingdom, who ignored the first offer to use the system, backtracked on their previous position and also made an offer to New Reverie. There were also many posts making fun of the alliances that began to drool over the prospect of the system. One such member stated, "Oh dear, look at all this public dribbling. A little more self respect, gentlemen! Incidentally I, Vanilla Napalm, am a little teapot." After all the alliances came to the announcement with offers of praise, government positions, and everything else under the sun, New Reverie chose RIA as the new home for himself and his system. Delta1212 had made a good case about the system and eventually won over NR. Good Luck to NR in his new home. Written by Paintball464 The Pacific Press - A jackboot on the pulse of world events. From the smallest tech raid to the greatest world war, minor skirmishes to debilitating alliance-wide civil wars, Bob’s denizens are no stranger to conflict. But today a very different conflagration is being waged across the Cyberverse. Gone are the tanks, bombers and nukes of conventional warfare – this is a battle in which the color palette is king. For today we behold the martial spectacle of the Mushroom Kingdom’s two rival rulers going head-to-head in the battle of the flags! The first move in this multicolored game of chess was made by King ‘Sir’ Paul, Senior Industrial Regent, Sovereign of the Mushroom Kingdom and Pretender to the Toadstool Throne, who used his proclamation and apology for his kingdom’s actions to unveil his battle standard. Fluttering over the offices of this government in exile, Sir Paul’s flag – a tasteful magenta and cyan re-imagining of the Pacifican standard, against which is set a playful, yet determined looking yellow and white-spotted mushroom – regularly has visitors gasping in appreciation. “I just love the vibrancy,” enthused one Green Alliance ambassador, “we’ve been waiting for something like this to come along for a long time – long may this standard fly!” “Bright pink and blue – where are my sunglasses?” joked a spokesman for one of Bob's leading blocs , “Seriously, just let anyone try and take it down and we’ll be there to defend it.” Guillermo de Flambeaux, one of Planet Bob’s premier designers, gave the new flag a ringing endorsement: “It says ‘fun’, it says ‘strength’, it says ‘look at me, I’m an alliance that wear its colors on its sleeve.’ This design signifies a refusal to compromise – clean, brave and bright, it looks to the future.” In the other side of the ring, rival for power King Archon was forced to respond and, after announcing some changes to his government’s foreign affairs, lowered the old hodgepodge MK flag and hitched up a new face-lift. This flag – a blue and white horizontal striped affair, embossed with a shield bearing a pixelated mushroom motif, predictably elicited praise from Archon’s coterie of followers and dependents, but drew criticism from some brave individuals within his own ranks. “We changed our flag to that hunk of bloody junk? What a f'in joke!” bemoaned one unhappy ‘shroom. “That is the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Whatever happened to 'If it ain’t broke, don’t $%&@in fix it'? Pathetic.” Other responses were less opinionated, but an undercurrent of dissent could still be felt. “There was more effort put into picking a flag than most people will ever know,” wrote one exasperated subject, while another alluded to the harm the new design might have on the Mushroom Kingdom’s already tarnished public image:- “It represents us perfectly. It is simplistic.” Designer Guillermo de Flambeaux was also less than enthusiastic after beholding the flag: “Oh dear – cold, sterile and not a little unimaginative – this is less a national standard than an apology. And what’s with the pixelated picture in the center – what is that, a mushroom or a deformed turtle?” “Archon has definitely made a change for the worse. He needs to reverse his policy and go back to the old design – yes it’s childish but it puts the message of cheerfully brutal extortion and botched foreign affairs across much more effectively than this travesty.” And so the design war continues, with first blood to Sir Paul. We continue to watch events, and promise, as per standard procedure, to flag up any developments. Written by Lord Lookin The Pacific Press - A jackboot on the pulse of world events. Proudly part of PNN New Pacific Order wins gold in wonder growth There was much joy on the streets of Francograd as the people saw the fruit of Emperor Cortath's generous military development policies, with the New Pacific Order earning first place in growth rates amongst military wonders for the top 8 non-neutral alliances. The list, compiled by the Revolutionary Assembly for Wonder Reconstruction (RAWR) measures increases since the 22nd of August, shortly before the the 7th anniversary of the August Revolution that saw a shift in economic policy focus from post-reparation rebuilding to a greater emphasis in Wonder Development. Military Wonder growth, Aug22-Dec15 The order showed the strongest performance in every single category, often growing at double or triple the average. Whilst the size of the alliance has been a factor in these growth rates, the achievement is all the more impressive when taking into consideration that the Order's army already held a significant lead in total wonder numbers for most categories. The growth of that armament gap in the past four months means that WRC's are the only military wonder where another alliance even enjoys parity with the Order, with NPO, MK and non-competitor TOP all hovering around the mid 100's mark. For everything else, the Emperor's army enjoys a significant lead over the competition. Amongst other alliances, Fark also made an excellent showing, coming in second in 3 of 7 categories and winning the Silver Medal overall with a significant margin. This is all the more impressive for the alliance's smaller size compared to its opponents and further solidifies Fark's position as a solid war machine. The Pacific's friendly competitor for score, MHA, rounds up the podium to get third place, with their larger size and temperate climate helping them edge out the sunny Spartan and frosty Polar domains, which were neck and neck for 4th and 5th place. In the end, Polaris, which despite having the world's premier experience in Arctic construction still faces marginally higher transportation costs, narrowly lost to Leonidas's successors. The competition was not without its surprises however, with traditional wonder heavyweight MK coming in last, with marginally negative wonder construction. Analysts have attributed the kingdom's lacklustre performance to a lack of growth opportunities brought on by a lack of size, though this was not a factor that stopped Fark, the second smallest alliance on the list, from earning silver. This has led to unofficial commentators blaming the stagnation on dissatisfaction with the Kingdom's foreign policies, which have been described as “neo-imperialist” in some quarters of the Cyberverse. These changes have led to MK, which 4 months ago enjoyed its position as a solid second in total numbers of military wonders per category, now being tied with the New Polar Order, with Polaris holding a lead in pentagons and nuclear-related wonders and the Kingdom having the advantage in WRC's and air-superiority. We have seen some crazy events take place from allies turning on allies, alliances preemptively attacking the competition, and treaties being dropped en mass. But we have also seen many glorious events such an alliance rising from the ashes. Here is to the Year 2010! What would a year on Planet Bob be without a few periods of bloodshed? This year we have seen a lull in the fighting, but we have seen some interesting events transpire that led to nukes being launched and soldiers marching. The first major war of 2010 was the Bipolar War. The war began on January 20th when the New Polar Order declared war on \m/ in order to "preserve the standards of our community." The Polar Emperor at the time, AlmightyGrub, also declared, "For those concerned, we will require NO assistance from our allies in dealing with this matter. If this matter is to escalate that will be by your choosing alone. I understand that a treaty partner of \m/ will choose to defend, we will await your deployment, also alone." And so the Bipolar War began. Shortly after this announcement allies on both sides of the engagement rushed to aid of their allies. The war quickly globalized and many alliances became involved in the fighting. On January 29th, the second phase of the war began. This war became known as the TOP-CnG War. TOP along with some of its close allies declared war on the CnG because they were worried about a possible entry into the war by the bloc. The preemptive strike on the Complaints and Grievances Union startled many of the inhabitants of the cyberworld and the violence further escalated. Allies of the TIDTT coalition and CnG quickly switched focus from the Bipolar War to this new engagement. One alliance in particular, the New Polar Order, received quite some heat during this second stage in the war. TOP had declared war on CnG in support of their allies in NpO. However, shortly after TOP and friend's strike was made, the Polar leadership declared war on TOP. On April 4th, the war finally came to a close with the signing of the Easter Sunday Accords. The alliances of TOP, IRON, DAWN, TSO, and TORN surrendered to the coalition led by CnG and were forced to pay reps. After the Bipolar and TOP-CnG Wars, there was a period of only minor engagements in the cyberworld. On August 8th, however, Planet Bob was rocked by yet another war. The war was known as the Six Million Dollar War and began when the New Sith Order provided aid to the sum of $6 million to a rogue that had attacked a protectorate of RoK. The NSO, who declined the assistance of its allies, went up against a coalition put together by RoK. Many called this war a curb stomp on the NSO and others believed that it was a way to bait the New Pacific Order into another conflict. On August 24th, the NSO, after suffering many casualties, surrendered to the coalition. After the conflict was over, allies of the New Sith Order flocked to their aid and rebuilt the alliance to prewar levels. Diplomacy is a big part of this world we interact in. We all know that the ultimate form of failing at diplomacy is war. As shown above this failure can lead to a wide variety of events and incidents. During 2010, we have seen a wide variety of examples of diplomacy taking that big u-turn from that path of sanity. The first example are those lovable 'shrooms over in the Mushroom Kingdom. On October 4th, the crap hit the ceiling when Archon announced that every single treaty of the Kingdom was canceled. Reasons for the mass cancellations was the following: "That said, the treaty web is a malady, sapping the lifeblood from this planet. It entraps and entangles. It prevents. And, most criminally of all, it dictates. It defines who your friends are. It defines who you respect and who you don't. It divides the world into poles and ties you to people you may not have consented to. So, let us have a reset, shall we? The Mushroom Kingdom still has its friends. We are as close to our friends as we were yesterday. No piece of paper has the power to change that. And, if it did, well...heh. That says a lot, doesn't it?" Former allies of the Mushroom Kingdom had quite a bit to say after the announcement was made. Many were shocked and caught off guard over the cancellations. Some had some personal reservation about the announcement. But many showed their support to a move that still is yet to be seen as the right one. Further examples of the u-turns of diplomacy can also be seen by MK. When a nation ghosting the New Sith Order was given $3 million for a harbor so it could enter a trade circle with the Kingdom, the NSO quickly found out that to the mushrooms diplomacy=extortion. The NSO ghost took the money and then canceled all the trades in the circle. When Rebel Virginia was confronted by Yevgeni of the Mushroom Kingdom about the incident, he found that the MK did not just want the $3 million back, but they wanted 15 million and 250 tech. Public outcry ensued from the incident and this new form of "diplomacy." Diplomacy is not all about making a u-turn and doing the unexpected. Diplomacy and signing of treaties can mark the ultimate bond of friendship. Alliances of all sizes show the world the bonds and friendships they have developed by signing treaties from ODPs to MADPs. 2010 was no different than any other year in this showcasing of bonds. We saw blocs created such as Pandora's Box. We saw blocs dissolve such as The Citadel. We also saw countless new alliances enter the treaty web either including the New Pacific Order, whose treaties were dissolved upon her surrender to KARMA. In what was one of the most miraculous transformations of the year. We saw the release of the New Pacific Order from the harshest terms ever to be imposed on Planet Bob and her subsequent rise from the ashes. The day before the Armageddon War began, the New Pacific Order had a total nation strength of 22,848,932. The Order fought against overwhelming odds, however, on July 19, 2009, the New Pacific Order surrendered to the forces of Karma and began the longest, harshest reparations in our history. However, despite all the hardships over the next few months Pacifica prevailed. May 19th, 2010.... "The Interregnum ends, the Second Age begins and we see the Star." "As the new age dawns, The Order does now proclaim That terms are complete." Being under terms for so long had had a sever impact on the Order's growth. Thanks to the work of ADude and Waterana the Imperial records were dug up to investigate our rise to the top once again. On the day of the release from terms, NPO's total strength was 9,073,023. The average nation strength was 14,825. The number of nuclear weapons was 3 and the total amount of technology was 223,441. Immediately after the release, NPO began to ascend the ladder to the upper echelons of alliances once again to the position we hold today. We currently rank number 2 in alliance score. We have a total nation strength of 16,199,238, a growth rate of 78.9%. Our average nation strength more them doubled since May to a point of 31,888, a growth rate of 115.1%. Our current technology total had a growth rate of 222.4% and we now sit at a level of 720,425 tech. And finally on the release of terms we started out with 3 nuclear weapons, now, we have 4,828; more than any other alliance and every day we move closer to the 5k mark. The year was a celebration of growth and prosperity for the Order and we will continue to grow through the year 2011 and for many years after. CN has seen quite an interesting year in 2010 and we hope that 2011 is just as entertaining. Written by Paintball464 The Pacific Press - A jackboot on the pulse of world events.
