  1. I'm not sure I fully agree with that, it depends how much money you had spare, but even I couldn't go clinic, clinic, hospital in one day, not a chance. If your citizen count is at... 6000 (as that would be at 6 improvements), that is 6000 citizens. 6000 citizens *0.04 is only 240, and even a hospital (6240*0.08) is only 500. That is an extra 740 citizens over 3 improvements, which could have been spent on a bank which would have given a far greater return on investment over that time. If you are recieving aid, then it probably is the best, as actual income is trivial when you have millions sent in aid. But for a new nation starting off from scratch, who most of the time does not have optimal resources. I don't think that is the best approach. You have had over 9 million sent to you over 10 days, which would explain why that is most optimal (factories first) for you.

  2. If you join an alliance most of them will give you some setup money, in some cases, 3 million.

The advice you have been given was the same that I was given when I was starting out, and if you follow it, it will take years to get to 1000 infra :-)

Make sure you get population increase resources (i.e, fish/cattle/wheat) as you can get your improvements faster.

Get the best trades you can, ideally fastfood/beer bonus resources, make sure you buy a harbour straight away, and fill up all your trade slots.

Consider doing tech deals to people, 3 million for 100 tech or something (you must post in the gameplay sales thread though). Then you will get to a respectable infra (500+) in a reasonable time and wont die of boredom.

  3. Thanks for clearing up about infra jump :)

Surely (... ;)) the admin will change the forumlas around as soon as people start hitting the stage where the profit curve starts to dip at 13k, or add infra improvements or something based on that which encourages you to purchase more infra. Since the game is based on infrastructure, I would say the 8k jump it certainly worth it (oh if only I was there). Two donations seems a very wise idea to do the jump.. :)

Btw steodonn, have you noticed santa is waving his hands in windscreen wiper-like motion? :P

  4. From the Nation Building Guide

Remember that if you have the Uranium resource then for every level of tech you have you receive +$0.15 per citizen extra up to a maximum of 30tech, a total of $4.50. You must have selected that your government favours nuclear technology for the use of nuclear power plants but does not support nuclear weapons to receive the bonus.

Plus % modifiers from banks, that 4.50 will be roughly $9. Times that by tax rate 0.28%, you should find you are making an extra 2.50 or so per citizen.

  5. It won't really matter though, since some guys will simply calculate the best combo and everyone will follow it. Changing what resources do to 'balance' them doesn't really work since there will also be one combo that trumps the rest.

Hehe yes, same problem that the current system has. If the negative resources are added with no thought all it will do is make the gap between good and bad resources even bigger :D

  6. JDawg has a very strong point, the resource system is quite complex/lop-sided etc as it is. A careful think would be needed of what players this will penalise. Tbh all I think adding negative resources will end up in people just avoiding the combo alltogether, and there is enough of specific-combos going on as it is. It may create a group of players who all have the offending resources having difficulty getting trades due to something they cant change..

Nerd one was pretty funny :D

  7. Not really as you are missing out on many of potential bonus resources, you also don't have uranium which would be a good choice for offensive nations.. Mathematically there are a lot better resources/combos, for example, many regard the furs resource possibly the worst in the game, and lead close behind. Spices is only useful if you are using it to get the fastfood bonus resource. If not then wine would be a better replacement, in your position I would be maximising my economy/happiness at the moment and military would be the last thing to worry about :)

  8. hmm would you consider an expansive guide to the game? because im only a few days old and imo i have an ok setup

    no harbor

my setup: cattle, furs, silver, spices, gems, gold, lead, oil , pigs and rubber

i know it needs aluminum but that can wait, because, my pop hap is at 13.78 ( govt n religion are happy), i have basically ticked all the boxes in every catagory, ye no bonus but so what imo this is a good example on how to get a big area, money, a good cheap army n happy people all at the same time

At the moment lead is not doing anything to help your nation, Oil could be replaced with something better (such as wine for example). The first resource set in the guide is pretty much optimal imho, it has pigs, cattle, wheat, and fish which is a must as more citizens = more improvements sooner. :)

At such an early age you don't really need to concentrate on military so much, focus on growing and getting your first 5 or so improvements before looking to start wars etc :)

  9. Sorry if this is a double post.. but I cannot search to find out if someone else has asked it.

Are there any plans to switch the search function back on? Perhaps if server load is an issue then require a large time inbetween searches to limit it that way. This would stop a few double posts surely?
