Have any of you ever actually tried to and noted on the difference. I know one person that did all generic spam for two weeks and didn't get a single person to join but got a couple replies. Would he have done better if the messages were unique to each person he sent it? Maybe but no one knows. And the message does not have to be 100% unique but at least give it more such as making room for the person name or do the spam at the bottom of the message but a short sentence at the start that is not part of the daily spam...if it shows or hints at maybe you actually care if they join or not maybe they will.

As before though, think about the number of people who go to deletion on their 25th day, not looking again at their nation. Think about the number of people who might not see that first personal line since there are so many messages in his inbox already.

I'm not saying personal recruitment messages don't have their time and place, but definitely not to nations who are 0 days old. It's not feasible.

I organised a recruitment drive when in GDA and we sent messages to every unalligned in the game and it took less than an hour with only 6 of us sending the messages. Its not that time consuming to do at all.

I was referring to the "thought out and personal" recruitment messages, not the stock ones. That's the whole point of my previous post

I am not new to the game just a new nation in the game and even back when I first started I disliked how the system works so here I am. While not trying to change the in-game system I am trying to at least get people to update their messages.

Edit: And I would like to think i'm not alone on thinking less of an alliance after seeing some of the spam in the last two days. A well written mass message is better then nothing if you have to go that way. Not saying well written as in grammar just something original and drives the point of your message without being a hypocrite in your own message....those types annoy me the most.

For those who are starting out and have the same priorities as you - there *are* alliances which put some thought and time into each message, but a) no alliance has the resources to send messages to all of those little nations just starting. 1 in 100 actually continue in the game for longer than 100 days (complete guess). And b) if a person is interested in not getting a generic message, they often put it in their bio, saying "I don't read generic recruitment messages", so those who are taking time to read the bio will know and adjust. For c) these tactics are used mainly on higher NS or older nations who are unaligned, don't be annoyed that the new nations are spammed; it gives them something to read, an "intro" to an alliance, which imo is a good thing. Get them involved in alliances and that's half the battle of keeping them active in the game.

4. I've got a question. I haven't read into the reason why this can't get updated (lack of internet?) but is this data lost forever or when you get back on, can it all get updated?

Could someone who does have internet collect the necessary data while you're not able to, for example, and give you the raw data when you get back?

5. Don't try to avoid them. Appeal to your statistical side, knowing that 52% are positive, and 48 negative. You *want* events, or should. I just got a positive one the other day, it'll even out. I pay bills every day because I want to get an event, because I know it'll more likely be positive. Almost a coin flip but not quite.

Maybe I should just hope for a global war as you say then =P

You kind of just missed one :P But being in GPA will help you in that respect. One thing to keep in mind is not nearly everyone uses their aid slots efficiently, so you've got a 1 up on them.

the increase is $4.15 per citizen BEFORE taxes, and $1.25 per citizen AFTER taxes, which is 0.9% increase, verses the 1.73% (1.73%, not 2%) after taxes increase from 1 env point. Not to mention that 1 env. point is also +1% happiness, which (assuming your happiness is around 50) would add another 0.45% increase onto the 1.73, and +2.18% is clearly better than +0.9%.

However, if your environment rating is GRL (currently 2.20) +1, then go for the happiness.

Edit: LOLFail, was talking about the original question, not the one I quoted, whoops :)

You seem to know something about what exactly a +1 environment is worth. Where do you know these things from?

And can you comment on my reasoning in the post you quoted of mine? It seems correct, and from there we don't even have to bother with environment changes.

I collect with 4 BWs and 0 improvement slots leftover to fiddle with, and at the GRL+1 point, so the best environment.

8. this can be rephrased as "what is better, +2% population and -2 happiness, or +1 happiness?"

Alternatively, "what is better, +2% population or +3 happiness?"

The happiness is an increase of 3.65 on my avg taxes collected per person, of a total of 112.87 so a 3.25% increase, which would seem to suggest that the +1 happiness is the better choice.

If you don't have an MP (and if you are switching from selling tech to buying, you normally don't) then having 1000 tech instead of 500 doesn't do you much good. It raises your NS by 2500, without making you significantly stronger.

According to the tech calculator at this URL...
http://www.cn-utilities.com/TechCalculator.aspx

... buying from 0 to 1000 with gold, microchips, 2 universities, and no wonders will cost $80,706,442.12.

There are 3 wonders that lower tech costs. If you had those in addition to the above, 1,000 tech would cost $68,343,022.25.

I find it hard to imagine situations where I'd consider that a good option, and all of them involve nations with a very, very large warchest who are rebuilding after having been beat down to ZI and ZT.

This is correct, but I understand quigon's point and agree with him that gaining a month on nations further ahead in tech buying is more important than just buying infrastructure. It's a one time thing, since after that tech prices to up *a lot*, but all the same. If you want to catch up (at least by a month more than what you would be) this is the only way.

10. I'm looking for 5 tech selling nations to do a specific deal with me. Starting on the 11th I will have some slots opening.

I am looking for someone reliable who can accept two aid packages, both for 3 million and 50 tech, and then send me 300 technology over the next 60 days.

The timeline would be this.

Day 1: I send you 3 million and 50 tech.
Day 11: I send you 3 million and 50 tech.
Day 21: You send me 50 tech.
Day 31: You send me 50 tech.
Day 41: You send me 50 tech.
Day 51: You send me 50 tech.
Day 61: You send me 50 tech.
Day 71: You send me 50 tech.

The rate is standard at 3 million for 100 tech, if you count the aid going back and forth. You get to play with the money and tech I give to you for 20 days before you start sending me tech back. You shouldn't worry about having 100 tech on hand, since you didn't buy it yourself you're not buying more expensive tech

Please reply to this thread to express interest. Only do so if you are able to commit to the whole deal, and if you are good at sending tech *on time*. First slot opens up Friday!
I need assurances that you will not run off, so I'll need some references or to talk to you on IRC (preferably both).

11. I wish people would use the number instead of the number of stars...

My environment is 5.79, but I swap in border walls sometimes on collection. East Samnor

Note on the swap: If you're wondering what's best to do, since the border wall takes ~2 improvement swaps, it's about equivalent to +2 happiness (if you're above the GRL by 3 or 4 points), so 2 churches or 1 BW is the about the same, so I try to end off with a border wall, giving myself the "-1" slots available message.
