  1. Heya Otis.

I'm not saying what you're saying. I said... VE needs to 'man up' and admit it is in this fight because, long ago, Viridia gave up its right to decide whom it fights. Today it'll fight us. Next week... who knows. Viridia doesn't. It gave up that right to know when it signed that treaty.

You were in the GPA long enough to know... saying "I'm doing something I hate because a treaty tells me to" is bunk. That's why GPA never signed mutual aggressor treaties. For better or for worse, the GPA does what the GPA decides it will do. Itself. Alone. Per its own ideals and code.

So. Just tell the Viridians to man up and do what they've given someone else the right to TELL them to do... beat on the GPA.

As I said in my OP. I know WHY they have to do it. But don't sugar coat it. We're not sugar coating it. Viridia shouldn't either. Both alliances have too much integrity for that.

Some people seem to think that "neutrality" is some sort of concept to be supported and cherished -- as if neutrality, in and of itself -- is a good thing. A goal to work towards.

I don't buy that. Never did. Neutrality was/is a means to an end. And that end was peace, prosperity and the ability to go and build one's nation without outside interference.

Of course, there's a down side to all that. It also means that you can't intervene if your friend is getting curb-stomped. Because that means you'd be taking sides, and taking sides isn't neutral.

The other way for an alliance to ensure its continued existence is through diplomacy and judicious use of treaties. Like neutrality, treaties are good sometimes. And sometimes they create unpleasant situations -- where an alliance has to choose obligations to an ally over the needs of a traditional friend. Is the neutral route more honorable? By your definition, maybe. It didn't really feel honorable when GPA was sitting on the sideline watching friends get waxed, though.

That said, I don't think the way you're characterizing the treaty is really fair. Our treaties have been highly beneficial to us, and it is only fair that our allies see benefits as well. As I said earlier, I see it the same way I see the obligations of a member within an alliance. If you don't like the way the alliance is run, leave. But don't accept funding, protection and support from the alliance and then leave as soon as the alliance asks for something in return.

  2. Abaddon -- you know I respect your opinion. But look at what you're saying.

What you're doing right now is no different than what the Legionnaires and GATOs did in asking GPA to join wars in the past -- asking an alliance to abandon its principles and fight to defend YOUR principles.

VE has a treaty. That treaty has served us well as we rebuild towards our former size and strength. To reject our obligations under that treaty now would be just like the action of that GPAer in the OWF who immediately surrendered to NATO and then complained when The Agency banned him for cowardice.

  3. Few like the idea of operating against the GPA, as evidenced by some of the statements in this thread, and I think even less would ever wish to see the Agency perish from the Cyberverse. But we, not just Viridia but numerous alliances, even those set against you, have tried to help you as best as we can, attempted every conceivable method in the books, only to watch an old neighbor take one step forward and a couple giant leaps back again and again. So we are now left with our last option--to cast thee into the crucible, the purifying flame, with the hope that what comes out will be a refined agency, a strong agency, a true bastion of neutrality that will never again fall into the black morass of bureaucratic gridlock and weak leadership that keeps even the best of nations from righting wrongs.

    This is a wise hedgehog.

As I said on multiple occasions during my most recent stint in The Agency, the worst thing the GPA can do at this point is act as if it is blameless in this entire affair. I am deeply saddened at the possibility of meeting dear friends on the battlefield, and can only hope that some good will come out of this conflict.

    o/ Viridia

    o/ GPA

  4. Well Mary, please, by all means, enlighten me. What is it you intend to get rid of? The answer to this is really what I've been wondering. I've yet to actually see an answer to this question.

Fu... know that I say this with love and respect...

    This is pointless.

The NPO and her allies do not need to justify their actions. It is clear that GPA didn't intend to do any harm. That doesn't change the fact that, through some actions and some inactions, harm was done. Not to infrastructure, but to a relationship.

If you really want to know what they want to achieve, have ShasO, or whoever is serving as MoFA these days, approach Moo about terms.

  5. Seems to me that some people have funny ideas about what "neutral" actually means.

The OP here admits that he participated in the defense of GPA... when that meant fighting the odd rogue -- so fighting isn't a problem... so long as it's the strength of an entire alliance vs. the occasional asshat.

But when you're outnumbered and outgunned, the "neutral" response is to lay down your arms? Within the first hour of combat? And then expect to be accepted back into the alliance you've abandoned?

    How does that work, exactly?

  6. Really? Like your current President? I'm pretty sure he is still in GPA.

He's not *my* anything. I'm not in GPA any more.

    And I did say "most."

It's more than possible that ShasO mis-handled a diplomatic situation at some point. I've heard references to such an event, but I wasn't in GPA at the time and I don't know anything about it.

That doesn't change the fact that CK is gone, as are many of the other people who have -- rightfully or wrongly -- incurred the wrath of the OWF are as well.

  7. While that's true, Dilber... you are hearing it from a new source now.

Most of the people who have caused GPA drama to spill out into the world -- intentionally or unintentionally -- are now gone, and a new crop of leaders is stepping up.

I can't say that they'll be successful -- but past results do not predict the future. It may be a worthwhile exercise to actually make some suggestions, and see if the new group can implement them.

I'll kick it off with a few of my own:

    1) There is a massive wealth of experience at building and running alliances out here. Use it. Ask for help -- even from alliances that you may think are out to get you.

    2) Don't presume to think that the GPA's board lawyers will anticipate every eventuality and cover it in your labyrinth of regulations. Your legislation must be more flexible and allow leaders to make decisions based on common sense and judgment, rather than constantly dealing with loopholes.

    3) Fix your application process. Membership in The Agency is a privilege, not a right. There is no early reason why a member of your government should ever say, "I let him in because I had no authority not to."

That's all for now. I'm sure I'll think of several dozen more after clicking "add reply."

  8. Excuse fuzzy. He's the resident GPA psychoanalyst and has absolutely no clue what IC vs OOC is.

Seems to me that you're the person in the process of leaving the game because no one buys your definition of IC vs. OOC. So perhaps you shouldn't be challenging anyone else's definitions of anything.

  9. They have GIVEN you time to do what you said you would. You said you would clean up your act 3 months ago. Now you're trying to say that you're serious this time, and you will clean up your act. GPA, you've promised us you'd clean up your act for months and months and months. You've destroyed any and all credibilty as an alliance, and proven yourselves non - neutral. Then some of your members have the audacity to ask others to leave them alone, because they will fix it. Please. Nobody in CN believes you'll fix it.

    1) I'm not making any promises. Obviously, I'm not at all convinced that this is fixable. If I was, I'd still be a member.

    2) I'm not a member... not any more, anyway. (What Smooth said.)

    3) I'm just trying to stress the difference between "an annoyance" and "a threat."

I've never seen anything from GPA -- either as an internal or external observer -- to indicate that The Agency is a threat to anyone.

Others may feel differently. That, obviously, is their right.

EDIT: Damned emoticon stole my B. Changed letters to numbers.

  10. Valid, your argument in your trial is so flawed.

Here, I'll make this simple for you because you obviously don't understand how things work in this game.

The user behind the nation is responisble for that nation's actions in this game. If your nation makes an OOC attack, the user is the one who typed it. If this user creates a new nation, his past actions still reflect upon him because it was HIS actions. Granted, no one argues that your nations aren't the same nation, but the user who made the nations are, thus the guilt is still there.

    Smooth...

You would not believe the amount of time he spent in GPA forums over the last week saying "Vaild did this" and "CK did that".

He was thisclose to winding up as Britney Spears' cellmate.

    Seriously. I was concerned.

  11. Of course people will say that nobody has the right to come in and meddle with GPA's internal affairs, but this is untrue. The GPA can only exist by the consent of the rest of the world, as by being neutral they preclude themselves from any outside aid. Thus, it is completely within the realm of reason for all of CN to demand that the GPA be true to its word and act neutral.

    That's true... to a degree.

But here's the thing... the issues that have so annoyed the rest of Planet Bob are, for the most part, the work of a very small group of people... Valid/CK primary among them.

There are well over 700 members of the GPA who pose no threat to anyone, who would be perfectly happy to continue collecting taxes, buying infrastructure, doing tech deals and increasing their nation scores. It seems a shame that they are being placed at risk by a series of comically bad decisions, poorly-timed controversies and the general asshattery of one or two people.

I really did want to try and help right the ship... but seeing CK post those logs was absolutely the last straw for me, which is why I resigned from the alliance last night. I really do hope a strong leader will emerge and straighten things out. I think the government was on the right track with some of the discussions that were underway in the last week.

I won't say what, as it's no longer my place, and CK will probably post the full text here in the next couple of hours anyway.

I will say this... GPA is no threat to anyone, except themselves. I hope you'll all take that into account when planning DoWs.

  12. I can corroborate Otisburg's disclosure. I saw many bogus threads started by the names he put into his post on the GPA forums. Otis' temporary lockout of the Plaza was then posted in the GPA Lobby. It seemed like the prudent thing to do. It's very unfortunate that your inability to access the forum was taken as a personal lockout of your account. Please know that it was merely a bad coincidence. :(

    namaste,

    edit: misspelling

    Thank you, sir.

Kurushio could also corroborate... as he was the person who initially brought the posts to my attention via IRC. (Thanks again, Kuru, by the way.)

EDIT: He's also faster on the draw than me.

  13. For the record:

The GPA Plaza was closed to posts at around 6pm EST this afternoon, when someone claiming to be Josef Thorne and later Kaiser Martens came in and started trolling the Susanoo thread and others.

(Please note, I don't believe that either Josef Thorne or Kaiser Martens were actually involved.)

As of about 6:30, the Plaza was re-opened to posts, but is fully moderated.

The fact that you were unable to post in the Plaza has nothing at all to do with you or your status... unless you were the person creating fake names and trolling.

  14. Can we expect a GPA Announcement?

Not for a little while, I'm afraid.

While we are working behind the scenes to address the concerns raised by Moo and Dilber and others, those discussions have taken a bit of a back seat due to an OOC tragedy, referenced here: http://forums.cybernations.net/index.php?s...st&p=365130

As I said in the other thread, we absolutely will not sweep this under the rug, but for the time being, life outside CyberNations trumps life inside.

If anyone wants to contact me directly for additional information, either here or on the GPA forums or in-game, please feel free to do so. (My nick on the GPA forums is Otisburg, same as my nation name.)

  15. On behalf of The Agency, I'd like to thank Dilber, Moo, the NPO, and the rest of Planet Bob for their understanding and sympathy.

Please know that we have no intention of sweeping this issue under any rug, and that we will do our level best to work out a solution with all of the interested parties when we are able to resume normal operations. In the meantime, anyone wishing to contact us for any reason may continue to do so via normal channels or may contact me directly via private message, either here or on the GPA forums. (My nick on the GPA forums is Otisburg... also my nation name.)

    Thank you,

  16. Interesting. Just a couple of pages ago, it was stated that it was being voted on and it wasn't likely GPA would pass the confirmation vote. So... which is it?

A couple of pages ago that was true.

Then, when the person with authority to suspend the vote got online and had the chance to suspend voting, the vote was suspended.

See, you're getting updates in real-time here, kids.

  17. I can't help but wonder when you found out "who's who"? Was the GPA membership informed of who they were voting on before TrotskysRevenge revealed it here??

The general GPA membership was not aware of this when the vote started.

The vote has been suspended as a result of this revelation.
