  1. The thing that saddens me most AirMe is if they had come calling on us, even in the face of assured destruction, we would have answered.... we did answer.

Much respect to Gre and MHA... but even you must see that this war by VE is no "defensive" war of nature, and I pray that you will provide assistance (be it militarily or diplomatically).

I do not expect nor desire help against the NPO, they were honoring their MDP with TORN and they are allies of both MHA and Gre, nor would I wish to see alliances like Gre or MHA forced to fight against the NPO. But alliances like VE that just want to bandwagon in and make aggressive attacks against alliances just trying to honor their word (our MDP) is both sad and pathetic.

Out of curiosity... why does NPOs treaty with TORN count but ours does not?

  2. YES, going over your beliefs for the sake of getting a bone from the big guys IS dishonorable, especially when you step over people who thought a lot higher of you in the process.

Can someone please explain to me how "We thought highly of you" trumps actual, written out and publicized treaty obligations?

I mean, we appreciate all the love. Honestly. I'm sort of surprised that y'all loved us so much and yet never decided to set up an embassy, but whatever.

    We love you guys too.

That said... it seems to me that most of the complaints I've read in this thread boil down to three objections:

    1) The declaration isn't exactly clear.

    2) You guys are on the wrong side of this.

Now, I've been out of town for about a week, so I'm playing catch up, but let me see if I can address those concerns.

    Point One:

Yeah, Ardus can be an unnecessarily flowery writer, but several other high-ranking VEs have spelled things out quite clearly. We're bound to enter the fight due to our treaty with TORN.

    Point Two:

I think it's sort of interesting that the people who spend so much time on the political side of Planet Bob think that all those treaties, agreements and alphabet-soup of MDAPs will simply go out the window when a fight breaks out. These treaties have been in place for weeks and months -- we're supposed to abandon them right at the time that they actually come into play?

Is it sort of odd to see VE and GGA fighting on the same side? In a historical sense, yes. But if you want to go back that far, it's also sort of odd to see the NpO fighting alongside alliances that most long-term players see as LUE 2.0... or to have some of the most vocal proponents on the NpO side be former leadership from the NAAC.

We're fighting alongside our allies. The fact that we're allied with NPO, GGA, TORN and the others is not a secret. We've committed a lot of pixels to Ardus' flowery announcements of each of those treaties. We may not see eye-to-eye with all our allies on all issues... so be it.

Is it possible that we might, at some point in the future, come into conflict with people we call allies today? On Planet Bob, anything is possible. But short of an ability to predict the future, it seems most prudent to stick with our allies. Wouldn't you do the same?

    Oh wait... you have.

  3. I know Kuru from his time in the GPA and I can tell you I have always felt Kuru was an unstable ruler who craves positive attention. I am baffled more of you didn't see this in him.

I was around for most of the events leading up the war (I left after the Valid scandal broke and I found out Apriland hid it from her people due to a promise she made to Kuru) and I can tell you that what Kuru did to the GPA made me sick. When he saw signs of war he used the first chance he got to leave the GPA and slander it in the public eye. Even after he left he continued to make threats toward the GPA on it's forums, through IRC, and directly to the president at the time Apriland. The fact that he was so embraced after he left always puzzled me because his actions were far from honorable.

While I'm glad to see him finally admitting to what he did to the GPA it's too little to late in my opinion.

    ^^^ This.

It's sort of remarkable that anyone would take him seriously at this point. Of course, I thought it was sort of remarkable that anyone would take him in back then.

There's no accounting for taste, I suppose.

  4. hmm,

I understand what the OP says, but at the same time it is kinda confusing.. so let me ask a question or 2..

    1) does the GPA still claim neutrality?

    2) if yes, then do you feel it is still having a neutral atitude by locking the doors on the GPA members who have surendered?

    3) if NO, then which style of Gov't will the GPA be changing too..

    4) or is that the leadership has made this elaborite announcement as a way of getting their so called ex-members into other alliances such as iron, NpO, NPO to to spy, or keep an eye on yer enemies for you so you wont be cought with yer pants down next time???

    i await your responce.

I'm not a GPA member, nor do I play one on TV... but a quick observation:

Too many people continue to get hung up on the word "neutral." The GPA's neutrality means "We will not take sides in any international conflict."

That means they can't sign a mutual defense pact. Or join a group of alliances. Or allow members to find wars through trades, etc.

It doesn't mean that they can't take a stand on member behavior. It doesn't mean that they don't have the right to defend themselves if attacked... or have the right to refuse re-entry to members who surrendered during the war rather than helping to defend the alliance that had protected them to date.

The GPA is not neutral to its own internal affairs.

Frankly, if GPA was a little LESS "neutral" in handing internal affairs, they'd probably be in a much better place right now.

  5. Hey Authur. I'd characterize GPA as more like "a lone cheetah in a savannah of lion packs". But yeah, that's dead-on.

That cheetah can do well against smaller prey and cats (rogues, small alliances). But it's about staying out of all the lions' way and letting them fight over their territory. The cheetah just ignores territory and just slips in between, ignores the lions' prey, and has little chance against a pack of lions. Frankly, it makes a REALLY good analogy because once the cheetah stumbles a time or two and the lions gets a chance to take a shot, it's gonna be bad going for the cheetah.

    Wait.

If GPA is a cheetah, who's the wildebeest?

  6. Well said, good sir.

However, when he suggests everyone to just surrender, how come he gets a "HELL YEAH!" and support when I did the same? Did I do something wrong? :/

Either way, I would suggest all GPA members to do this. You're being fooled by a false government.

Because you turned tail and ran at the first sign of an attack.

Pol and Helen resigned to protest a specific OOC action of their government. I don't actually think ShasO meant what he said, but I understand why someone in Pol's position can't take that risk.

The only thing you had at risk was your infrastructure and tech.

  7. OOC: No matter what anyone thinks of the GPA's behavior over the last several months, attacking their forum is pretty low.

I'm told that last night -- for the second time in a week -- some miscreants invaded the public zones of the GPA forum, posting porn and racist messages. (Last week it was antisemitism, posted under obviously false login names.)

I don't believe that any alliance in the Continuum or her allies would stoop to such a level, and I hope the rogues responsible for these attacks will be identified and banned from the game.

(To the moderating staff -- please feel free to move this if you feel it inappropriate for OWF. I posted it here because it appears the GPA forums have become collateral damage in the current conflict.)

IC: Let's settle our differences on the battlefield and at the negotiating table, people.

  8. You brought this on yourselves...and it is you who will suffer the consequences for your shortcomings.

    The Chief is wise.

I left the GPA because I no longer believed it could be fixed -- or, more accurately, that I simply didn't have the time or energy to do what I felt needed to be done to fix things.

Because far too many of its members seemed convinced that big, bad outside alliances were simply out to get them, to take their number one spot.

Because far too many of its members were willing to go along with insane IC/OOC distinctions rather than admit that the alliance leadership had "smuggled" an incredibly unpopular player back into its midst.

Because, even as I was working on what I thought was an excellent plan to bring the alliance back to health with the assistance of smart people from the rest of Planet Bob, I was convinced that the hubris of the membership would lead to the rejection of that outside help.

I honestly never thought it would come to this. I didn't think NPO would ever attack GPA, because NPO has had reason to attack for months and never made that move. I'm deeply disappointed that things have turned out this way... but in the end, the final straw was sort of fitting. Once again, people in power at GPA acted as if they were in a vacuum, that their actions would have no repercussions outside their own little world.

Abaddon, you know perfectly well -- it wasn't like that before.

You speak a lot of GPA's honor. What about the honor in treating all alliances and all players with respect? What about the honor in real diplomacy? What about treating your own leadership decency, rather than running a long succession of leaders off with internal drama and votes of no confidence?

I think the world of you -- and of many others still within the Agency. It's my hope that this war will eliminate the sense of entitlement that GPA has shown over the last several months... to accept some culpability for what's happened, rather than perpetually laying the blame at the feet of outside forces. Only then will the Agency that was so respected be restored.
