CYBERNATIONS NEWS NETWORK [MOGADISHU]: Deputy Prime Minister Hendrik Strijdom, who is also the Foreign Minister for Transvaal, arrived today the Transvaler enclave in Mogadishu in Carthage-occupied Somalia to inspect the current situation there.

President Obama, instead of Secretary of State Franklin, flew in to Mogadishu today. Flanked by two Itaguards, President Obama walked to the edge of the Transvaler enclave in Mogadishu. Obama and his Itaguards crossed into the Carthaginian Extension of the 'Boer zone' and walked into a designated meeting building.

Foreign Minister Hendrik Strijdom also crossed into the Carthaginian Extension of the 'Boer zone', which the Transvalers had been purposely keeping their ground presence frorces out of. He entered the meeting building where Obama was waiting for him.

In his usual gruff, stand-off manner - and behind a table so putting himself in a position where he would not have to shake hands - stood Strijdom. However, to rub some salt into the recent wounds between the two nations, he gave Obama the fascist salute. Then he sat down and spoke:

"Greetings President of Carthage, I have come here to outline with Carthage the future situation with our territorial enclave."

Obama could tell from Strijdom's tone of voice that he (and the rest of the Transvaler government) were pissed off with what had happened in Somalia to one of their closest allies - did not mince his words - however Obama could also tell that the Transvalers accepted the situation as fait acompli and were now simply looking out for their own interests. Everyone knew, the Boers included, that Italy was now completely out of the picture in Somalia.

"Before our dear Italian friends here in Somalia were backstabbed by your government, we had made a lease arrangement for this enclave where we would build a future overseas air base. The agreement was $3,000,000 (IG aid) for three-month periods. However considering the recent changes and circumstances which have occured in Somalia, my government has decided that a new, more secure location will need to be found as it is pointless for us to build a base in such a now-exposed location as Mogadishu."

"Our lease expires on February 5, 2010, at which time Transvaal will not re-negociate the lease and our armed forces will be evacuating the enclave. My government wished to make this clear as understandibly we have a dim view of your country's intentions right now. I trust - as much as we can trust you - that Carthage will not interfere in our affairs here during that time. Understood?"

President Obama returned the fascist salute to Strijdom and did it with a bit of a smile on his face. He sat down and listened to Strijdom speak, then waited for a moment while he chose his words carefully.

"Backstabbing implies that we agreed with the Italian colonization to begin with. We did no such thing and we did not hide our intentions with Aphrike that they would be targeted. Understood?" Obama reached into his breast pocket and retrieved a feather quill, something he kept on his person at all times. He stared at Strijdom for another second before placing the feather quill on a piece of paper and signing his name on it.

"The agreement was $3,000,000 for three-month periods, yes? Then we will reimburse you twice that if you agree to leave before then."

Strijdom appreciated Obama’s gesture – not because he himself agreed nor sympathized with the usage of the fascist salute either by Transvaler or foreign government officials, but rather because he admired Obama’s subtle use of humour to nevertheless convey a no-nonsense attitude.

“If you had such objections with Italian colonialism, then why were these concerns not brought up through diplomatic means at the conference hosted by Italica? However much we disapprove of your methods and intentions against the Italians, there is no point to further argue about the past… what has been done to the Italians as been done.”

The Transvaler foreign minister now had to make a decision regarding the Carthaginian offer now on the table. It had been the government’s intention to clarify their position in Mogadishu and then use the enclave as a political eyesore against Carthage until departure. However no one, least of all Strijdom, ever expected the Carthaginians would actually buy out Transvaal to depart early.

“$6,000,000 you say?” he enquired, trwirling a pencil around in his fingers as he waited for a response… “for us to pack up shop and return back home across the Jackboot Curtain?”

OOC: please clarify if this offer is being made with in-game $$$

"Perhaps Romano did not bring up these decisions at the conference in Italica, but I was not in a position of power then. One of the weaknesses of democracy, you could say," he commented with another smile. "$6,000,000. Three million at the end of this agreement, three million when your people are evacuated (OOC: ten days later). I'm sure this can be accepted?"

With no hesitation, the Transvaler foreign minister agreed.

“Six million then, you have a deal. This will more than compensate our agreement with the Italians. We shall evacuate the enclave and hand over control to you on the eleventh day after we receive the first payment installment, at which time the second installment shall be due.”

Strijdom added his signature to the agreement which Obama had signed.

“If there are no other issues for discussion, then I shall be on my way.”

The President smiled and placed the quill back into his breast pocket. He nodded at the two Itaguards, who retrieved the agreement and nodded at Strijdom. Obama stood up, snapped the Fascist salute one last time, and left the building where he was mobbed by a dozen more Itaguards outside. He was quickly and safely transported back to Carthage, while news of a peaceful agreement with the Transvalers was being leaked to the press.

As Strijdom made his way back to the security of the Krygsmagte troops in the enclave, his cellular phone rang. It was Hofmeyr from the Ministry of Finance, confirming that a deposit for $3,000,000 had been wired to the Transvaler Staatsbelegginge Bank (Transvaal State Investment Bank) in Pretoria by the Carthaginian government.

Any linger doubts Strijdom had of a possible ploy by Carthage to trick Transvaal into prematurely departing from the enclave had now passed. “Acknowledged…” he remarked to Hofmeyr, and then hung up.

By now inside the command tent at the airport, the foreign minister then turned to speak with the officers gathered around him.

“Gentlemen, the Government has decided to hand over this forsaken place to the Carthaginians on December 22.”
