Station Delta

Gangothri

The secretive Station Delta was established in one of the most remote and inaccessible areas of Gangothri. This facility is exclusively for the Quarter Master Command's Research and Testing Directorate. Today prototype of a radically new weapon is being tested here.

The rectenna supplying power to this facility was connected via power transfer lasers to 3 Tesla TSF and 4 Tesla TSD SPS satellites exclusively. A direct power line from the TROPS reactors in Base Camp could not be risked due to security reasons.

A mountain in this area was hollowed by Corps of Engineers to create space for setting up the research facility and power transformation facility.

Now after thousands of man hours of research and testing the prototype of the weapon is ready for testing.

With the flick of the master switch the weapon was energized. 50 MJ of electrical power is surging through the two parallel carbon composite conductors. A feeder system pushed in a Tungsten rod weighing 4kg into the magnetization chamber. The massive current passing through the system converted the rod into an electromagnet as it was held in suspension between the electrodes. The massive Lorentz force formed by these combination of events propelled the rod to insane speeds out of the gun barrel.

Tracking systems monitoring the emergence of the rod calculated a propulsion speed of 6100 M/s. Angled at an inclination of 45 degrees the tungsten rod was being shot at a force of 12 MJ. The range was of course predicted theoretically, however no one had an idea of how the actual firing of the prototype would fare. According to the theoretical models the rod would strike at a target 5m wide at a range of 450 kms.

The observers at the target side were sheltering behind a mountain that was expected to prevent them from being affected by the hit. With a loud bang they registered that the target had been hit. The target which was a reinforced bunker with over a meter's thickness of hardened steel and 10 meters of reinforced concrete was blown to smithereens.

The mission was a success.

Kingdom of Cochin had just test fired its first railgun.

After 14 years as a sovereign territory of the Kingdom of Cochin, the flag of the Kingdom came down the lanyard at the Biosphere in Station Gangothri. While this would not be the end of Cochin presence in Antarctica, this will be termination of Gangothri as a province of the Kingdom. The IVth Infantry Regiment, the Tibetan Grenadiers had the longest history in Gangothri, with them having secured the territory in the Kingdom's name in the first place, was represented by its General Officer Commanding, Brig. Gen. Mahesh Yadav who was one of the first who stepped on to Gangothri as a virgin territory. Maj. Gen. Khunsukh Norgay, GOC of the 7th Armored Cavalry Regiment, the Zamorin Horse was also present at the ceremony. As the flag was lowered and folded it was carried amidst a guard of honor composed of the families of the several Cochin citizens who had lost their lives to the harsh environment. From the first Royal Cochin Special Forces commandos who scouted the location 16 years back, to the various Corps of Engineer soldiers who paid the ultimate price to the harsh environment, the ceremony indeed became a poignant one. The flag was in the end received by His Highness Kerala Varma, the King of Cochin. Though with Direlian cooperation, Cochin research and security institutions would continue to exist in Gangothri, they would be staying as guests of another country.

The lowering of flag would soon be followed by the final deployment of the 4IR and 7ACR to new permanent regimental bases in Cochin. A battalion sized force of Corps of Engineers would stay on for maintenance purposes and a Brigade sized force of the 4IR would be temporarily stationed for security purposes until relieved by Direlian forces.

With the apparent cessation of Direlian activities Kingdom of Cochin is reclaiming the Gangothri Province. While the Cochin sovereignty would not be completely expressed without a confirmation from the Direlian liaisons in Gangothri, the first step would be taken in the form of raising of Cochin flag at the Biosphere and Base Camp Administration in Gangothri Base Camp.
