Seria Celebrates Grämlin Day!

The streets of Seria will be full of celebration tonight, as the country celebrates its second most important national holiday (after Foundation Day): Grämlin Day, the second anniversary of the day upon which our great nation was admitted to a small, economically minded alliance of tech sellers. The economic impact of the admission was enormous, and Seria's advanced status today can be traced back directly to that day.

A fitting memorial to the event is the Marrath Institute of Science and Technology, which started operating yesterday but which is officially opened today. The Institute comprises the very latest in scientific equipment and is designed to attract the best brains, in order to continue Seria's development in the modern age. Much of the more advanced equipment has been donated by the most advanced Grämlin nations, which demonstrates the continued value of the alliance today.

In contrast to Foundation Day, which has readily available symbolism to commemorate it (sailing into Marrath harbour, and a ceremonial journey from Marrath to Letarth), Grämlin Day does not mark a specific event but rather the beginning of a better period of history. As such, the festival has evolved to make use of the Grämlins' most prized asset, its military, and the centrepiece is the ceremonial procession of a nuclear missile from the secure facility at Thorn Hill, east of the capital, to the naval base at East Fleet. The missile used is almost certainly a mock-up, but it is a re-enactment of the movements onto submarine missile boats during times of high alert, and a symbol of the unstable times in which we still live. The 5th Airborne Brigade also perform an aerobatic display over the second city, Letarth.

However, as is the case with all festivals, most of the effort is put into parties, drinking and waving of flags. Coinciding with some of the worst weather in the year, the holiday was very popular last year, and this second anniversary is expected to be one of the most celebrated events of the year.
