One of the first things she noticed that would need work was the Republic's foreign affairs--or rather, the lack thereof. It was worrying to President De Ling that until now the Xinyan Republic had had almost no official diplomacy with other nations, and it struck her that until the Republic opened itself up more to international diplomatic relations, Xinyan was in a vulnerable position--and in the current state of affairs for the world, that was not permissible. She was also aware that to initiate diplomatic relations with Zargathia, the GKF, or UFE was highly inadvisable--Zargathia had a long standing feud with Korea, the UFE had already proven itself hostile to Xinyan, and Korea was currently being given an ultimatum to dissolve or face war. That left President De Ling to look further West in Asia. Thus, she sent a message to the Kingdom of Cochin. She waited for the Cochin delegate to be seated before sitting down herself, and asked of the delegate if they would like tea before beginning the discussion of their relations. "As said in the message sent, I invited the Kingdom of Cochin to our capital to discuss the future of the relationship between our two nations, which I believe has much potential for us both." Historically Kingdom of Cochin has not had much interaction with your region, except for Zargathia, who is a close ally of Cochin. Just as with Zargathia we hope to establish a fruitful international relationship with you, hopefully cemented with prosperous trade and commerce between our nations. We also have another mutual ally, the Greater Korean Federation which is unfortunately going through some very testing times with the nuclear attacks on its cities and the recent alleged terrorism by its Special Forces against Greater Dalmatia. As for Zargathia, given that Xinyan was initially a province of the monarchy, sentiments of friendship and, perhaps, brotherhood remain for some citizens of the Republic; however, similarly, we have no official diplomatic relations with Zargathia. As to the UFE, they consider the Republic to be their own province...and one could understand how that more or less eliminates the possibility of diplomatic relations." However seeing as Xinyan shares no border with UFE, being bordered by Zargathia and Vaule, surely Xinyan's national security is not under great threat. In many ways we do sympathize with UFE's doctrine of protection of their people. The Kingdom too has an exclusionist policy with respect to trade and diplomacy against nations known to be human rights violators. We dont do business with such nations, nor do we promote any diplomacy with such nations. We hope that the tensions which caused UFE to make threats at you were not in fact a real human rights violation? As regards UFE propaganda about Xinyan being a province, we suggest you do not give much credence to it. It is after all mere propaganda by UFE and though it may be echoed by their international allies, there are nations like Cochin which do not recognize Jia Doctrine's supremacy over sovereignty of other nations," KP Varma said. As to human rights violations, the Republic never did such a thing. The UFE claims we committed an 'ethnic human rights violation', which is absurd and a ludicrous lie. The incident in question, while unfortunate, was a riot that had harmed innocents and done damage to much property before the administration at the time determined force had to be used to prevent further casualties. We do have to inform you that so long as tensions exist between UFE and your nation we may not be able to trade with you in all industries like for example military equipments. As far as we have seen, however, the UFE is unwilling to permit our relationship to improve. Likewise we invite Xinyan industries and businesses to expand operations into the vast and vibrant markets of Cochin," KP Varma said. I will ensure a portion of government-owned property is marked for use by the Cochin embassy, and your diplomatic staff may arrive there as soon as it is cleared for use." Had it been less tense times I would have loved to extend my visit here, unfortunately tensions brewing between Asia and Europe makes me hasten back to Cochin City.
