President Wu De Ling had only just taken her office and begun to assert herself as the president of the Xinyan Republic. One of the first things she noticed that would need work was the Republic's foreign affairs--or rather, the lack thereof. It was worrying to President De Ling that until now the Xinyan Republic had had almost no official diplomacy with other nations, and it struck her that until the Republic opened itself up more to international diplomatic relations, Xinyan was in a vulnerable position--and in the current state of affairs for the world, that was not permissible. She was also aware that to initiate diplomatic relations with Zargathia, the GKF, or UFE was highly inadvisable--Zargathia had a long standing feud with Korea, the UFE had already proven itself hostile to Xinyan, and Korea was currently being given an ultimatum to dissolve or face war. That left President De Ling to look further West in Asia. Thus, she sent a message to the Kingdom of Cochin.

From: Wu De Ling, President of the Xinyan Republic

Subject: Invitation to Xinyan City

Mr KP Varma,

I believe that our two countries, as nations of the Asian continent, have much to gain and learn from one another. I would like to invite you and any diplomatic staff to Xinyan City, the capital of the Republic, to discuss the diplomatic future of our two nations and how we can work together to benefit our two nations, Asia, and the world at large.
Kingdom of Cochin

President,
Xinyan Republic

Subject: Invitation to Xinyan City

We would be honored to send a diplomatic delegation to Xinyan.

Sd,
KP Varma
A diplomatic delegation led by KP Varma would arrive at Xinyan City aboard an RCAF Merat for the diplomatic meeting. On meeting with President Wu De Ling, KP Varma would say, "Thank you for inviting us, President Ling. We are honored to start diplomatic acquaintance with your nation."

"It is an honour to receive you and your delegation in Xinyan City, Mr Varma," President De Ling said as she led the Cochin delegate to a conference room where the relationship between the Kingdom and the Republic, and the future of their relations. She waited for the Cochin delegate to be seated before sitting down herself, and asked of the delegate if they would like tea before beginning the discussion of their relations. "As said in the message sent, I invited the Kingdom of Cochin to our capital to discuss the future of the relationship between our two nations, which I believe has much potential for us both."

"Thank you for such a warm welcome, President De Ling. We have observed for long the formation and rise to global stage of your nation. Let us thus congratulate you on the remarkable strides made. Historically Kingdom of Cochin has not had much interaction with your region, except for Zargathia, who is a close ally of Cochin. Just as with Zargathia we hope to establish a fruitful international relationship with you, hopefully cemented with prosperous trade and commerce between our nations. We also have another mutual ally, the Greater Korean Federation which is unfortunately going through some very testing times with the nuclear attacks on its cities and the recent alleged terrorism by its Special Forces against Greater Dalmatia. How are Xinyan's relations with Korea and other regional nations?" KP Varma asked.

"As far as our relationship with Korea goes, though we have never officially cemented our relations diplomatically in the form of any documents or pacts, we have maintained a friendly and cordial relationship. As for Zargathia, given that Xinyan was initially a province of the monarchy, sentiments of friendship and, perhaps, brotherhood remain for some citizens of the Republic; however, similarly, we have no official diplomatic relations with Zargathia. As to the UFE, they consider the Republic to be their own province...and one could understand how that more or less eliminates the possibility of diplomatic relations."

Posted

"Yes, the UFE's Jia Policy has often been rather irksome. However seeing as Xinyan shares no border with UFE, being bordered by Zargathia and Vaule, surely Xinyan's national security is not under great threat. In many ways we do sympathize with UFE's doctrine of protection of their people. The Kingdom too has an exclusionist policy with respect to trade and diplomacy against nations known to be human rights violators. We dont do business with such nations, nor do we promote any diplomacy with such nations. We hope that the tensions which caused UFE to make threats at you were not in fact a real human rights violation? As regards UFE propaganda about Xinyan being a province, we suggest you do not give much credence to it. It is after all mere propaganda by UFE and though it may be echoed by their international allies, there are nations like Cochin which do not recognize Jia Doctrine's supremacy over sovereignty of other nations," KP Varma said.

"While it is true we share no border with the UFE, their hostile behaviour towards the Republic is worrisome, though indeed it is not the greatest concern we have. As to human rights violations, the Republic never did such a thing. The UFE claims we committed an 'ethnic human rights violation', which is absurd and a ludicrous lie. The incident in question, while unfortunate, was a riot that had harmed innocents and done damage to much property before the administration at the time determined force had to be used to prevent further casualties. There was absolutely no 'ethnic rights violation' involved."

Posted

"In that case we have no qualms at all in establishing trade and diplomacy with Xinyan. Tell me President De Ling, what sort of relationship does Xinyan seek with the Kingdom?"

Posted

"We would like for now simply to have a state of friendly diplomatic relations with the Kingdom, and perhaps the exchange of a foreign embassy in our capitals. Hopefully this can begin a fruitful and close relationship between our nations."

Posted

"Yes basic diplomatic relations with promises to develop mutual trade would be a good start. We do have to inform you that so long as tensions exist between UFE and your nation we may not be able to trade with you in all industries like for example military equipments. We would strongly encourage you to improve relations with UFE seeing as it is the dominant power in East Asia," KP Varma replied.

Posted

"Of course, Xinyan has attempted to improve relations between ourselves and the UFE. As far as we have seen, however, the UFE is unwilling to permit our relationship to improve. However, the Republic would be glad to eventually develop a trade agreement between ourselves and the Kingdom."

Posted

"Yes, a boost in mutual trade would definitely be a good start. Perhaps with changing strategic conditions we could consider having even closer cooperation," KP Varma said.

Posted

"I agree entirely. Hopefully, with changes in the political and strategic scene of Asia, it will permit us to consider further discussions about the relations between our two countries."

Posted

"To improve trade and commerce relations between our two nations we wholly support your proposal of embassy exchange and we also hope to set up a Cochin Chamber of Commerce in the Cochin Embassy in Xinyan City. Likewise we invite Xinyan industries and businesses to expand operations into the vast and vibrant markets of Cochin," KP Varma said.

Posted

"A chamber of commerce would do well to encourage business between businesses of our two nations, as well as bolster our economies. I will ensure a portion of government-owned property is marked for use by the Cochin embassy, and your diplomatic staff may arrive there as soon as it is cleared for use."

Posted

"Thank you, President De Ling for all your cooperation and hospitality. Had it been less tense times I would have loved to extend my visit here, unfortunately tensions brewing between Asia and Europe makes me hasten back to Cochin City. I hope you would one day visit us at Cochin City too," KP Varma said before leaving for Cochin.
