“Vauleyo-Buryatians are gearing up for a day of celebrations tomorrow to mark the birthday of Imperator Pyotr I. The Imperator’s birthday, which also coincides with the date of the creation of the Vaulian monarchy in 1675, will be celebrated with a national holiday beginning at midnight tonight. The celebrations of the Imperial birthday will begin with a national cultural festival and end with a grand ball at the Imperial Palace in Sygh-Varthys. Preparations are still underway at the Imperial Palace to prepare for the upcoming event.

Today, all schools and colleges in Vauleyo-Buryatia ended classes at noon so that students would have the opportunity to attend the cultural festivals in their areas. These festivals are set to begin at midnight at locations across the nation. The largest festival will be held in Sygh-Varthys on the grounds of the Imperial Palace. The festivals will showcase Vauleyo-Buryatian Imperial history and culture over the last few centuries, as well as modern cuisine and culture. As always, entry into the festivals is free of charge. Festival organizers expect tens of thousands of people to turn out to enjoy the festivals across the country.

Adding to the already festive atmosphere, the Association of Bars and Beer Dispensaries (ABBD) has announced that all Beer and Vodka purchased after midnight tonight will be sold at a reduced price of B$0.05 for a period of twenty-four hours. The Association has also stated that it has stockpiled huge quantities of beer and vodka to ensure that all bars will not face a shortage due to the drastic price reduction. The Association also warned that all laws regarding the consumption of alcohol remain in effect.

The Great People’s Khural of Vauleyo-Buryatia took advantage of the holiday as it elected to begin its week long recess early. The Speaker of the Khural accepted a unanimously approved motion to suspend the non-essential sittings of the Khural for at least seven days. This motion was accepted by President Andropov immediately after it was approved by the Khural. The President is also expected to take some time off to enjoy the festivities. The Imperial Staff on the other hand continue to work overtime to ensure that every event has been appropriately organized and supplied and to ensure that everything will run smoothly. The Imperial Staff is also said to be preparing the necessary certificates and awards that are usually conferred upon individuals by decree of the Imperator. This year, the contents of the list of Imperial Honors is being kept top secret with few individuals outside of the Palace knowing who will appear on the list.

BCNA: Imperial Festivals and Grand Ball held

“Today, across several locations in Vauleyo-Buryatia, several festivals celebrating the birthday of Imperator Pyotr I, and celebrating Vauleyo-Buryatian culture and history began. These festivals featured regional cuisine, dances and cultural performances from several different groups from different regions of Vauleyo-Buryatia. Thousands of enthusiastic citizens attended these festivals and took time off to enjoy the national holiday. The largest of these Imperial Festivals was held in Sygh-Varthys and saw the attendance of more than 40,000 people. The theme of the festival in Sygh-Varthys was ‘Technological Progress, 1675 and onward’. This festival showcased Vauleyo-Buryatian achievements in science and technology, for both military and civilian uses, over the past decades. Attendees were treated to an airshow over the Imperial Palace which included the first unveiling of the new MiG 39E aircraft.

The Vauleyo-Buryatian Space Agency, eager to encourage interest in the national space program, set up a simulation showcasing Vauleyo-Buryatia’s last shuttle mission. The Agency hopes to spark increased enrollment by appealing to students to enter the scientific, engineering and research fields especially regarding space exploration. Spokesperson for the Vauleyo-Buryatian Space Agency Yulia Liu said that the agency hoped to change the notion held by some that it is simply ‘a waste of taxpayers' money’ and hoped to inspire the next generation to have a more ‘universal world view’.

Imperator Pyotr had a rather busy schedule today as he jetted around the country to attend several ceremonies in honor of the holiday. The Imperator visited the Yuktobania Autonomous Region (YAR) and attended a festival held there showcasing Yuktobanian culture and cuisine, before jetting off for lunch with soldiers at the Yakutsk Regional Military Base. The Imperator then headed to a meeting with the Khambo Lama at a Buddhist monastery in the East Ingushetia Autonomous Region (EIAR) before returning to Sygh-Varthys a few minutes ago.

Before attending the Imperial Grand Ball, the Imperator returned to the Palace to announce the Imperial Honors. According to the Imperial Honors list several individuals were awarded the Order of Vauleya, and three individuals were awarded the Order of the Hero of Vauleya. Former President of Vaule and founding leader of the United Democratic Republic of Vaule, General Zhukov received the Order of the Hero of Vauleya, as did former President of the Vaule Socialist Republic Yuri Rokossovsky. The Imperator also conferred several other awards on individuals.

The following awards were made by the Imperator:

Order of Vauleya (Vanguard Class) OV-VC
Sargun Peaceheart, Former King of the Sarnungian Republic

Order of Vauleya (Leopard Class)- OV-LC
Therese Zelle, Empress of France
Lady Natalya Sharova, 2nd Deputy President and Director of Eastern Russian and Asian Diplomatic Affairs

Order of Vauleya (Eagle Class)- OV-EC
General Bayar Khan, Commander of the Vauleyo-Buryatian People’s Air Force
Yulia Rokossovska, Former President of Vauleyo-Buryatia

Letters informing the awardees of the honors conferred upon them by the Imperator have been sent by the Diplomatic Corps, except in cases where the individual is deceased in which his or her nearest living relative will be notified of the award. Those who elect to accept the award will be invited to the Imperial Palace next week for the presentation ceremony.

In other news, bars across Vauleyo-Buryatia are reporting record sales as the national B$0.05 beer and vodka campaign continues. Traffic has also been reduced by as much as 23% in Sygh-Varthys due in part to the number of individuals who are now too intoxicated to drive home and also to those who elected to leave their cars at home and simply walk to the nearest bar. So far, there have only been 4 reported incidents of drunken and indecent behavior in the past 6 hours, down 300% from last year.

We will continue to report on the festivities later tonight"-Reporter

Letters are sent to the King of Cochin and the Empress of France informing them of the awards and requesting confirmation if they intended to accept the honors.
