The Lightning War

The troops assembled at Tweed Heads had little to fear. Brisbane, the Capital of the Queensland Republic, was a mere 40 miles away, and the route was a highway, more than capable of handling three tanks abreast. As such, the proceeded with all possible speed northwards. With any luck, their attack would coincide perfectly with the Dranaggan strike from the north. The total force consisted of ten thousand troops, 150 tanks, and 300 armoured support vehicles, as well as a few dozen helicopter for aerial support. What little resistance they might meet would be harshly dealt with. They were not, however, completely heartless. They did not ultimately want to punish these men for their governments mistakes. As such, they would accept any surrender, whether of an individual, or of a battalion.

Ultimately, however, they were searching for the surrender of the government. They had let these pests fester for too long.

Gentlemen,

I commend your efforts on retaking Brisbane out of the hands of the Queenlanders, perhaps maybe if I was only faster getting back to my homeland you wouldn't even have to be getting your hands dirty. However, I see that the tanks have already begun to roll so I will be polite and say that this is more than acceptable. However, after Queensland is destroyed, I would like my capital returned to me. If you don't consider this to be fair, by all means, Hanseatic troops would be honored to rip Brisbane from the Queenslanders. But Hanseatic control of Brisbane is imperative for my country and I, it was and always will be the capital of our Commonwealth. Therefore as soon as my army is built, expect Hanseatic soldiers in Brisbane. Hopefully this will be just another building block between the friendship of our states.

General,

We have no intention of taking this land for ourselves. This is pest control, nothing more. Once we are finished, you are more than welcome to reinhabit what is rightfully yours. May this firendship bear many fruits.

Having met little in the way of organised resistance, the battlegroup rolled through the southern suburbs of Brisbane within two hours of the attack beginning. Anyone who so much as looked at them the wrong way woudl be shot or arrested, depending on the circumstances. It did not take long before the City Hall was surrounded. By this point, many of the troops had become complacent, and the rearguard unit was nowhere to be seen. Probably drunk in an underground club somewhere. Repeated calls were made for the governments surrender, but so far, they had recieved no response. It was as if the entire nation had upped and left overnight.

With the surrender of the Queensland Republic, the South Welsh forces could now concentrate on Dranagg. Barely a shot had been fired against Queensland, but at the personal request of the Hanseatic Commonwealth, the Republic could bring to bear its full force against the invaders. 55 warships, half a million fighting men and women, and several thousand tons of heavy machinery and weaponry. Only a fool would continue on in such a hopeless quest.
