State News: Russians go to the polls

Prop6.png

“Citizens of the Greater Russian Empire will once again be heading to the polls to vote for their representatives to the State Duma. Millions of voters will be casting ballots across Russia to elect the seven hundred and one (701) duma members who will constitute the 3rd Duma of the Greater Russian Empire.

The first two Dumas have been dominated by United Russia under the leadership of Former Prime Minister Antonin Boskovic and current Prime Minister Alexander Kropotkin. The political party is seeking an unprecedented third term in office, and a second term for Former Prime Minister Boskovic. This time around, United Russia is facing a significant challenge from the other Opposition parties who have lambasted the Kropotkin government for a perceived lack of ‘active governance’. United Russia has countered the opposition allegations by highlighting Prime Minister Kropotkin’s crucial role in interstate negotiations and his extensive efforts to strengthen state institutions.

Some pollsters have predicted a dip in the vote share for United Russia, but a handful have suggested that the party could lose enough votes to sharply reduce it’s majority in the Duma. As Russia votes, we will cover all of the key races and give you all of the statistics. Welcome to Election Night 20XX!”-R. Porter.

State News: Voting begins, UR may be in trouble

"Voting is now underway across the Greater Russian Empire as eligible citizens vote for the members of the Third Duma. According to the Electoral Council, voting is progressing smoothly thus far with only minor delays being reported at a handful of polling stations.

While no official polls are released until just after voting has taken place, the non-government organization Center for Democratic Progress (CDP) has released an entry poll it took from a large sample of voters. According to the CDP, the governing United Russia party is facing a 'significant swing against' the party. The resulting poll predicts a hung parliament in which United Russia will be the largest political party, but will be significantly short of the required number of seats for a majority. According to the CDP poll, the Russian Fatherland Party, will benefit the most from the swing, but will not be able to form a government on it's own. The CDP has expressed confidence in it's polling methodology and has predicted accuracy within 10 Duma seats."

State News: Voting ends, initial results reported

“Voting has ended across the Greater Russian Empire and the first verified results have been released by the Electoral Commission. The Commission has reported that there were no incidents which impacted the election results and that there were only minor delays at a handful of polling stations. These delays did not significantly impact the ability of those present to cast their votes and the average delay time was 20 minutes.

After carefully tabulating the results of the official exit polls and tabulating the results gathered thus far, the Electoral Commission has cautiously predicted a hung parliament with the Russian Fatherland Party as the largest political party. With 92.23% of the vote counted so far, the Electoral Commission has released an unofficial prediction that has United Russia holding only 230 seats, the Russian Fatherland Party winning 277 seats, the Communist Party and the Meritocratic Socialists tied with 92 seats each and 10 seats too close to call. Even if the 10 remaining seats are won by the Russian Fatherland Party, they would still be far short of the 351 seats required to form a majority government.

If the current trend holds, then either United Russia or the Russian Fatherland party could attempt to form a minority government or a coalition with one of the smaller parties. Should coalition negotiations take place, some analysts have predicted that such negotiations would heavily favor United Russia.

State News: Election results certified, UR coalition

“The results of the third elections to the Duma of the Greater Russian Empire have now been officially certified by the Electoral Commission. In its official report the Commission announced that the Russian Fatherland Party had won a total of 278 seats, United Russia won a total of 239 seats, the Communist Party and the Meritocratic Socialist party each won 92 seats.

According to the results, no single political party won enough seats to form a majority government in the Duma. Despite the Russian Fatherland Party being the largest political party in the next Duma, a spokesman for United Russia has revealed that coalition discussions between United Russia and the Meritocratic Socialist party are ‘well advanced’ to form a minority government. Should an agreement be reached the United Russia-Meritocratic Socialist coalition would hold 331 seats in the 701 seat Duma (roughly 47%). A coalition between the Russian Fatherland Party and either the Meritocratic Socialist party or the Communist party would be able to claim 370 seats (a narrow majority) but such a coalition is extremely unlikely due to the sharp political divide between the two parties.

With the results confirmed, a new government will be formed sometime in the next few days. At this point, it seems almost assured that United Russia will continue to influence federal politics, but this time from within a coalition.”-Reporter
