When Giants Meet

It was becoming increasingly clear that in this day and age one could not look at continents any longer, for a long time Pravus Ingruo had been a friendly state and it certainly was a stable one. With this and the fall of the Cajuns in mind the decision was made to see if their government would be interested in a meeting to work out a formal relationship.

From: The Office of the Empress of the Eastern Athenian Federation

Esteemed friends,

For years we have maintained an informal relationship based on mutual respect and understanding, with the fall of the Cajun gobernment and the current state of affairs I would like to ask if you would be interested in working out a lasting formal friendship between our respective states. If you will accept I invite you to Athens for a meeting with myself and my government. I do look forward to meeting you in person.

A very quick reply was returned to the Athenians, from the Emperor himself.

From: Emperor Thomas Atkinson-Asgeirsson

While it warms my heart to hear from you, I regret that with the current situation in America I am not able to leave my country. I would be more than happy to receive you here. Fort Mountaineer in West Virginia is quite secure, simply ask the Chinese the problems they had with Fort Central in Florida during the Secessionist War. Landing at Washington, D.C. would be the easiest, and you and your entourage can be transported from there to Fort Mountaineer safely and securely.

I look forward to your response.

Upon receiving the reply the required preparations were made after which the Empress accompanied by some aides and an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would leave on the private airplane reserved for the Empress. After a relatively long flight the plane would enter PI air and request formal permission to land at Washington D.C.

Permission would be granted. Upon arrival, the Empress and her entourage would be escorted to a medium-sized, unmarked, black plane, which would take off with a half-squadron escort. Less than an hour later, they would land next to Fort Mountaineer, where the Empress would be escorted inside via underground tunnel.

In a meeting room deep beneath the surface, the Emperor waited.

The Empress followed the escort, she had been very impressed so far by the security arrangements, perhaps something Athens could learn a lesson from. After walking through the tunnels she reached the meeting room where the Emperor was already waiting.

"Emperor Atkinson-Asgeirsson, it is a honor to finally see you in person."

"As it is to meet you, Empress Notaras. I apologize for the lack of grandeur that would normally accompany a state visit such as this, but in these trying times we felt security more prudent than pageantry. However sparse our accommodations," Thomas waved his hand around at the nearly bare conference room with only a simple long wooden table and chairs, "I can assure you that you are in one of the safest places on the planet here."

Thomas walked over and pulled out a metal chair for the Empress. "You spoke of an extension of our relations, Empress. What did you have in mind?"

Ariadne nodded. "Well considering the already existing status and a de-facto MDoAP actually existing right now I would propose the signing of a Mutual Defense and Optional Aggression Pact. If possible I would also like to look into promoting mutual trade."
