The numbers have dropped pretty suddenly.

The best experiences I've had in CN were with TOP. I loved all the plotting and conniving and talking strategic politics. No other alliances compares with TOP for how deeply its members contributed to these discussions. They played CN like it was Game of Thrones. My only regret was that I didn't join them sooner.
It's been real.
But all good things must come to an end. Hope some of you guys stay on in CN.

Basically, as you've said Tiberius, doing things to encourage active participation. That's also good for the Admin because more activity means more people clicking on those adverts, which give money.
As it stands, there is little reason to be very active. I know players who have for years just been logging in every second week, and they are some of the biggest nations.

It's always international drama that causes bumps. Anything with political intrigue, the threat of war, or scandal leads to a couple of hundred people going online and searching for a nation war simulation.
