I had not desired to become involved in this thread which seems to be more about whether the causes of war were just and less about Fu's clarification of policy for the GPA. The posts by Fu stated that once you left by way of surrender and thus change your AA you have resigned the alliance and will not be let back into the alliance during the duration of the war. I am uncertain how more than that is being taken from his posts. It might have been instructive if FU had also made note of an internal policy. Those who leave the GPA in the best of times are often allowed back just once without once again going through the full admission process but are still subject to the affiliate status until cleared for reentry by meeting all requirements. I am relatively certain that any nation who left an alliance at war would be met with some degree of skepticism when peace was rendered if they asked to return.

As to the Neutrality issue.
First I am amused to see the term non-neutrality used just because someone does not do what you ask or does something you do not like. It is perfectly neutral to do things that annoy the heck out of everybody. In case you misunderstand unless they did actions that interfered only on one side this is not unneutral. As I understand by the posters you feel GPA was not neutral to everyone thus by definition they were neutral. The cause of the war or rightness of the war on GPA is not at issue the misuse of the term neutral is. The Continuum may choose what ever reason they wish for war as may any other alliance or nation. There seems to be some overwhelming desire for all wars to be justified. My alliance is Neutral and recognizes that to be neutral we must not interfere lest we break our own code. We believe in that but if attacked I am certain you would find we have no qualms about defending ourselves.
During its history Switzerland(OOC) has been recognized as Neutral most of the time. Yet some of the most sought after mercenaries were Swiss. During the WWII there were many actions including the banking of certain assets and the sheltering of POW's that annoyed both Ally and Axis governments but since there was a degree of even handedness that annoyed everybody Switzerland, Spain and Sweden who supplied munitions and supplies to both sides were considered neutral. It has been stated that those who surrender are the true neutrals. I would venture to say that the Quisling and Vichy governments of WWII also believed that they were doing what they felt best for their people but suggesting that they were considered neutral would be laughable.
Being neutral takes work and requires communication something that Valid and I vehemently disagreed on. Its is easier to be neutral when everybody loves your actions but it is not less neutral if no-one does. What matters is whether overt actions directly impact on a conflict not if they annoy someone.
I have been blessed with finding an alliance who aggressively pursues positive neutral relations with Planet Bob I wish others find a peaceful solution to this conflict.
Please do not however mistake neutrality for a lack of right to defend oneself. I offer all the real life option of seeing how Sweden or Switzerland have built up their defense forces and suggest that if attacked these Neutrals would not hesitate to fight with full determination. It is funny/sad to see the same people post about how bad it is for an alliance to fight instead of taking their medicine and how cowardlyit is to have them surrender or go into peace mode. Hypocrisy should always be the enemy.

A good soldier does not in death boast. Those true to their nations and alliances seek the victory with a minimum of bloodshed. Each fallen comrade a loss felt most keen each adversary felled a potential friend lost. Those who cheer for blood have never truly felt loss of one whom the entrusted their lives. Mere pixels now harden us to the person on the other side of the worlds passing mere pixels on a page, our countrymen in foreign lands killed to protect us, mere pixels on a page, the policeman gunned down in service to their community mere pixels on a page, our neigbour killed by violent act mere pixels on a page, may we hope that your passing those who revel in blood,when it must inevitably, may be to us far more important than pixels on a page.

You and I have spoken before and know you to be one who has spoken of the faults you saw in GPA. I ask however as I have not seen a formal declaration anywhere that states what will be accepted as either individual or alliance wide surrender terms,would it not be appropriate to have posted some specific terms of surrender? I also am concerned you are calling for mass defections from an alliance at war. I have great respect for your past words of concern but I wonder if these are not premature.
Out of respect for those who would heed your words or those who genuinely wish to end this conflict this would be more meaningful when specific and formal terms are announced. I doubt any Continuum Member of honour would actually encourage membership in an alliance at war to desert their post. This has been proven in the many actions they have taken in the past.
May the path of war lead to a greater peace as we watch with sadness as friends on both sides suffer in this conflict.

On a serious note pedantic and slavish infatuation posts are amusing but somewhat vexing. I worry that this most recent thread has the disturbing taint of McCarthyism. With or without the vulgar nature of the rhetoric ,we need be very careful of this type of discourse. Rationalism dictates a certain degree of respect for all view points even those that we fervently oppose. Lets attempt to maintain our respect for all manner of thought it is when ideas and sentiments become the currency of destruction that we all lose the essence of our humanity.

I appreciate the definitions they truly help but I wonder if you would provide your thoughts on the type of activities your own alliances sanction and those they would not condone by your membership and opponents. The stated purpose of this thread is also one of information and education. I honestly believe if we knew what actions would be greeted with humour compared to those that are truly hurtful the discourse on these forums and the actions and words taken on alliance forums could be substantially improved.

Noble Leaders of Digiterra/Planet Bob
I have noted in my relatively short tenure in this Realm a strange dichotomy of deed versus word. In the few threads I felt the necessary understanding to post in I have placed a premium on civility and good manners.
My time in the Order of the Black Rose has shown me that those with strong opinions even in a closed Alliance environment can operate in an atmosphere of civil if sometimes tense discourse without the need to degenerate the posts in to exchanged insults. For this I am truly grateful. As many may know the Order of the Black Rose highly values the Role Playing aspect of the game and generously supports its application.
In reviewing over the many threads in the OWF if find myself disturbingly unable to ascertain what is and is not truly an insult or role-playing or CB for action. The simplest style of discussion would be to import my own biased view in a Poll to make myself seem clever and important. This I am sure would garner multiple posts and I could remain warm and fuzzy in my self importance but would offer little to the general knowledge and culture of Digiterra.
Observing that some alliances feel every slight may be regarded as a Causi Belli and yet feel free to pursue insulting posts of their own certainly for the newer player can be confusing. There also appears to be a professional band of deliberate provocateurs who feel the need to post grating and insulting posts with little regard for fact in a veiled attempt to pump their own egos. Now I understand propaganda and that often requires particularly in times of war a admonishment of the values of ones opponents. What I have seen however is that certain actions such as the inclusion of a player into an alliance that has insulted or was a former enemy of an alliance is treated with a huge degree of angst yet action on the OWF are often over looked. In addition action of an actual measurable detrimental nature to an alliance are forgiven faster or ignored yet slights IC or OCC become cause celeb.
All who have observed my posts will know that I favour the more gentle application of rejoinder yet find little reason for long term discontent from words spoken in anger. Long or short standing wars engender posts of a derisive manner understandably as both sides will feel wronged or disabused but I now see that it is becoming expected that those comments will affect the surrender terms of an entire alliance.
The general consensus is that there are rules of fair play yet I have seen wildly different resolutions to perceived offenses or actions. Some hypocrisy of action is inevitable in the heat of battle or a heated exchange but these actions and words seemed to have reached new levels of acrimony.
I therefore respectfully ask the leaders of alliances particularly to post in this thread the words and deeds that they would as an alliance both stand in favour of as legitimate role-playing and those they find abhorrent. No one should presume that any particular answer is right or wrong but a statement of principle from your alliance so that others may know what each alliance finds in good and fair game-play. For those who would chorus the rejoinder "They should know" I offer this ignorance is not a crime nor fault it is a lack of education. This set of posts it would be my hope if treated with respect be capable of being moved eventually to the academic sub-forums to be instructive to new player and old.
I ask please that you do not impugn any other alliance with your posts. I am looking for valid expressions of your own set of values for your alliance.
Remember the best judge of your own character is a mirror those values you espouse for others will be the scales used to judge your own and your alliances actions.

If I may humbly suggest I believe that you may not understand some of the angst being displayed on this and the Farung post. Most people would actually like to believe that the Orders are the Just, Honest and Fair Alliances they are portrayed as. Admitting an error would enhance your image if indeed an error has been made.
BUT if Farung is lying then most desperately want the opportunity to say go get stuffed to these rogues and trolls , they are not looking for you to PROVE yourselves you have no need but they do want the truth so they can Jam another fool in the trash bin. If Farung is in fact telling the truth then the order and peace that Scholar talks about bringing to Digiterra is threatened by trolls and rouges in a way that is truly disturbing.
Posts telling people to shut up or learn how to read do in my humble opinion not improve the general civility of discourse nor enhance the image of your Alliance that is held in high regard by many. Legitimate question need not be answered if you choose not to but dismissing the questioners in a rude and dismissive fashion is not becoming of the hard earned values and reputation of your alliance. Assington came off very well despite not answering some of the questions because he carried himself with pride and dignity and did not engage in petty name calling or dismissive rudeness. He posed his own genuine questions. For this I compliment him it is the kind of post worthy of aspiring to. As a guide his post was a genuine guide of follow. I do not like to see friends detract from their own good image.

Gentle-persons.
I do wonder if the concept needs a little revising. There is plenty of real life precedents for tech raiding but this is a game. As such it should be about attempting to provide the most fun for the most people. Many people that join are younger and some are trying the game. I wonder instead of eliminating tech raiding if those who tech raid might consider a moratorium on raids on those who's nations are less than twenty days old and less than 10 days inactive. This would at least allow the game players to grow and learn enough of the game to make the choices that will or will not allow them to be tech raided.
Such a degree of courtesy would still allow those who find joy in raiding to do so but allow the new players the opportunity to learn to enjoy this game. Simple good manners costs nothing but could improve the play of those new to the game.
I thank you for the opportunity to air my thoughts and ask the tech raiders to consider this option as one further aspect of the role playing world.

Nations of Bob. There are those of us who deeply cherish the ideal of Neutrality and sought it in the GPA. Our elections are pending and I would ask your tolerance for a few more hours.By Monday we will have a new cabinet in place.
The concerns raised by your alliances will be heard and addressed by that new cabinet. Those members concerned with what has happened will give our word that they will be address by our ruling council ASAP. We need answers perhaps even more than you do. This will decide where we will hang our hats in future.
New government may mean new style but the GPA WILL be neutral or we will no longer be GPA.
I ask for a little more patients as our experiment in democracy moves us back to our roots.

I am not a GPA official but I can verify they are taking this very seriously. I offer my personal regrets to those who were offended by the outcome of the proceeding.I do not know as I was not one of the jurors what the arguments were. I do know no one on the GPA forums has stated support for the actions of that nation.
I can but apologize as a member of an alliance whose actions lately were viewed with displeasure. I can but do my part to ensure the future of the GPA is neutral and works to heal any wounds that may have been opened.

I am relatively new to CN but have followed through friends for a few months. I am a older gamer who has actively and competitively gamed for 4 decades. I learned to play as a young child and growing up in the diplomatic service of my country one of the constants was gaming with my siblings, parents and new friends in various countries.
I am just a GPA pledgee and so I hope this is properly in keeping with the Neutrality for the alliance.
I have been disappointed that disparaging comments, photos, IRC names or other forms of abuse that have been leveled at various members of the community. I have read the current and archived posts about IC vs OCC. Frankly most of it is BS. Those who choose to attack personally anyone IC or OCC is by and large a jerk. Some of my very best friends and I have substantial arguments about varying topics and philosophies but never do we let it become a personal attack. Age is not a determinant of maturity. Some of the most mature gamers were young teens. Some of the least mature senior gamers.
Personal attacks, cutesy names, vile photos or fake chat lines is reserved for those who never grew up. IC or OCC I have played and game mastered evil characters without the need to get personal or lack the imagination to role-play a less than savory character without resorting to personal insults.
Bullying of new players or small alliances just reinforces the feeling that the game is being overrun by those lacking imagination or personal integrity.
As George Carlin once stated at one of his stage performances" I know some of you are here just to be insulted so here goes".What we have lost is the sense of humor and imagination that makes arguing fun. Personal attacks on peoples perceived or real afflictions is not only low but needs to be controlled. I understand the freedom of speech concerns that admin and the Alliance website admin have. However John Stuart Mills said
The only freedom which deserves the name is that of pursuing our own good, in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it.

I ask that all alliance try to remember these words. I am disappointed that my new to be alliance has been accused of supporting this behavior but can assure those who think it was taken lightly that the Leadership has been under intense scrutiny and pressure because they acted in a quick and decisive manner that is now on the outside being questioned for its speed. Some inside think they acted too fast some outside to slowly. Thats democracy.

I appreciate the ADMIN and the game it will I hope continue to provide me with hours of enjoyment and interplay. I congratulate all leaders of alliances that treat their own with protection and direction and other alliances and nations with respect and courtesy.
I prefer the company of those who honestly oppose my beliefs to those who dishonestly support them.
It may not be neutral but those who do not respect the game or others deserve no respect from the rest of us. Lets please try to display courtesy and respect IC and OCC since they are but the flip sides of the same coin.

As a new player I have looked around at various individual tech selling offers. What I would like to know from the more experienced players is which alliances are known for honesty and the ability to mount bigger tech sales?
I really do not want this to become a flame site for those who have had a bad deal. I am looking for positive references from those who have bought and arranged bigger tech deals. I know you all love your alliances but "We are the best "posts do not really help either. The older nations would be the most useful posters.
Please lets show courtesy to others. ICC or OCC courtesy costs nothing but buys alot.

My sympathy in your time of loss. It is never fair nor easy when this comes. May you feel the empathy from those who have suffered this loss.
It is however with such sadness that there are those who lack the common courtesy of an adult and launch Personal and OCC attacks whenever they find themselves requiring communications skills.
The saddest part is that your circumstance was purely chance the words uttered were vile at any time. Please lets all try to avoid the inner rude child becoming our in game personna.
You have our heart they have our disgust. The perma ZI will I am afraid not change the fact that this individual needs to grow up and join the land of responsible adults.
