OcUK are good folks, and I remember Mr. White from my days in Vox long, long ago.
Quality alliance, and a quality opponent for IRON.

And you are correct we did not have to do this, so far NpO have chosen not to activate the defensive clause in our treaty, they had been made aware that we were available to honour the treaty if required.
Sparta also did not activate our MDoAP they just asked if we wanted to come out and play. Why would we not?
To be completely fair, I think a lot of people thought they disbanded years ago.

Recognition of Hostilities
Yesterday at 11:30am server time, a war was declared by the chancellor of OcUK on a member state of the Independent Republic of Orange Nations. This declaration was followed two hours later by a declaration from a second member of OcUK. Both attacks came tagged with a reason for war of: "Sparta MDoAP".
After these first two declarations occurred, a message was sent to the OcUK chancellor asking him to confirm whether these wars were legitimate acts of aggression against IRON or just a coincidence. That message does not appear as having been read. Since the original attempted contact, three additional wars have been declared by OcUK against member states of IRON.
After waiting more than 22 hours since the first attempt at contact was made, a second message was sent to OcUK's chancellor asking for confirmation of the intent of the declared wars.
It has now been 25 hours with no response other than several more declared wars with the same reasons for war. I guess I have my answer.
The Independent Republic of Orange Nations recognizes there to be a state of warfare between us and OcUK.

You sure like to spout crap like usual but never evidence, do you have any evidence as to whom is actually going to be dragged down? in what way exactly? when would this dragging occur?? What do you know about the relationship goos even have with their allies? what do you actually know as to the current relationship between ocUK and goons? have you seen the debates between both alliances in this matter? Do you enjoy being full of !@#$ all the time?
You are right to challenge those that speak without knowing, some may have had a different experience with GOONS than I, but I speak as I find.
The facts are quite simple here, there was an unprovoked war on OcUK, there was retaliation against GOONS in defence. The defenders were engaged by GOONS. The GOONS response was measured and limited. The terms for peace that I required would have proved difficult for some that I have experienced in the past to countenance.
The conversations that occurred in back channels between GOONS and I will remain as far as I am concerned private, as they should. However I will state that such conversations were civil, productive and concluded in good humour.
As for any relationship now between OcUK and GOONS, speaking as a seasoned diplomat, who was once several years ago semi-important on this world, there are some fundamental differences in our philosophies that would negate any sort of close relationship. But I walk away from this conflict with respect for the GOONS leadership I spoke to and the GOONs nations that were engaged in the war.

Well, you're doing it all wrong buddy. You're supposed to scream and yell and post irate letters to various editors about the injustice of the war that was brought to your alliance. Instead, you decide to man up as an alliance and have a little friendly battle. That'll always lower your chances of annihilation..
Next time, try fitting Walford into your DoW.

If you guys normally dealt with wars like this, I think it would be the right way to do things. Although when you guys treat wars very different when you're fighting an alliance without OcuK military capacity or have your allies involved, then when you do this it stands out.
Most alliances normally try to ends wars in a friendly manner and try fixing their mistakes. so I don't think you guys are doing anything wrong here. Although this seemed more like an infra saving move than a sign GOONS are changing. If I see you guys being more civil and friendly with your opponents as the trend rather than the exception, then I would approve. However you guys can't play it both ways of saying you always ask for reps when fighting an easier war, but try peacing out when the war has barely begun if fighting an alliance who can do a lot of damage.
So I'll admit I'm giving you guys a hard time due to your history and you guys are making the smart decision here.
I'll not speak for GOONS as it is not my place but will express an opinion as I am involved.
Firstly in relative terms OcUK could not have done a lot of damage in the military sense to GOONS. What we can do and have a known history for is being an absolute pain in the ass for an extended period of time. You only need to look at the history of our war with RoK to see this.
An alliance leader needs to be pragmatic in decisions with regards to war and peace, it is my view that GOONS demonstrated strong and pragmatic leadership in the terms that were offered to allow this war to end quickly.
Each case needs to be assessed on its own merits.

The offer has been very kindly made. We are grateful but we have declined. Being unprotected suits us as we can respond to war with war as we see fit.
One day if luck is on our side we will find someone to finally kill us off ;)

OcUK and GOONS seem to have an amicable settlement so for me this discussion is done.
My thanks to all in this thread that offered good wishes and support, my respect to those that see things differently.

Yesterday, OcUK retaliated against GOONS for a tech raid launched on one of their members. It is beyond dispute that OcUK was, and still is at this point in time, unprotected when the initial raid was launched. It is also indisputable that GOONS fired the first shot that escalated into a small armed conflict between GOONS members and OcUK nations. Our policy regarding tech raiding is very clear and consistently enforced. This policy mandates that only the unaligned are acceptable for our members to raid and as a result of OcUK's own predicament regarding the cruel, otherworldly force known as 'inactivity', they were green lit when our member asked for permission. In similar situations other alliances or groups of unaligned nations sought a diplomatic solution before resorting to war against a numerically superior foe. OcUK has elected to go a different route, and it is one I respect.
But it is an action that warrants a response until such time the conflict is concluded in a manner we deem satisfactory. Our conditions for fighting and ending this war may be surprising, or they may not, and I believe they are in keeping with the stance that OcUK has taken.- GOONS will limit our response to OcUK's retaliatory attacks to OcUK nations engaging our members
- GOONS does not seek to enforce reparations or any other such terms against OcUK
- There is no deadline for peace to be agreed upon between OcUK and GOONS
- If OcUK should agree to it, we are willing to temporarily protect OcUK at the conclusion of this war until they find a protector of their liking

Marx, SecretariatI must say that this is a most respectful and honourable response and I believe that we have the makings of an accord.
We may have a difference of opinion as to what constitutes "aligned", as to what constitutes "active" and as to whether there is in reality any difference between a tech raid and a war, but in this world we live in there will be differing views on such matters.
There has been damage on both sides, but that happens in war. I feel no need to seek reparation and am glad that GOONS see it the same way.
I will instruct my members to offer peace and if that peace is accepted or the wars are allowed to expire I am happy to consider the matter closed.
It has been fun and from the battle reports I have received the GOONS nations involved have fought with honour and good humour.

Raiding has its benefits.
Net gain to your raider, a bit of stolen stuff.
Net loss to GOONS so far, neglecting the smaller stuff, 4 nations in nuclear anarchy.
I guess the fun of this little war could be considered a benefit, but will it still be so when OcUK NS drops and we are nuking your lower ranks?

Yeah you can't really complain when someone attacks you back, after you attacked them to steal their stuff. To their credit, GOONS aren't complaining and neither is OcUK.
This one will resolve itself shortly as it appears both parties aren't overreacting
Absolutely, it all seems quite light hearted and reasonable to me, there is nothing to complain about as war is always a possibility on this world. I have nations capable of protracted war, not many but I have them none the less. Or we can have peace.

I can't imagine why OcUK gov would be surprised when, after putting themselves into a position ripe for raiding with their own inactivity, the are, god forbid, raided?
You're being completely unreasonable with not asking for anything other than white peace, but oh well. You have the right to make bad decisions.
I have never claimed to be surprised. We respect the sovereignty of other nations, I am well aware that view is not universal.
If white peace is not an option we are happy to remain at war. GOONS can call it how they see it.

Many thanks to IRON and especially to The Warrior for the honourable way in which peace negotiations took place. The terms or should I say lack of terms are quite fitting under the circumstances of this war and a magnanimous gesture on the part of IRON, they reflect the spirit in which the war was conducted. Also my respect to our friends and allies in Sparta for their part in facilitating this accord.
OcUK have been pretty much just going through the motions since No CB, but we survive as an alliance mainly due to being too stubborn to die. Whether this continues is a debate for us to have another day. Today we celebrate peace.
