The state of Maryland is not in danger, it is Delawarean Maryland that is ours, and we will fight tooth and nail, bone and blood for it. We seek in this world a lasting peace, a peace where the Kingdom is free and we have our sovereign territory and you will give us that peace.

IC: The Kingdom of Friedland would like to make completely clear that its treaty with the Kingdom of Delaware distinctly states that in no circumstances will Friedland join in an offensive war, but will come to the aid of the Kingdom of Delaware only in defensive undertakings. Furthermore, military aid is not guaranteed by the treaty, but only that aid that Friedland can afford to commit to Delaware to protect the join interests of both Kingdoms.

The United States Government does not recognize this treaty as states do not have the authority to conduct foreign affairs. We would also like to point out to Friedland that Delaware is not an independent country, as it was not granted independence by the Federal Government.
His Majesty King Sigismund I of Friedland thanks the United States for their input in this exchange, but wishes to remind the United States that the Kingdom of Friedland is itself a sovereign state and therefore as a member of the international community free to recognise those states and governments it deems in appropriate position to recognise. His Majesty further asserts that it is his royal right as well as his right as a national leader to treat with whom he and his government see fit. It is, therefore, for posterity and the international community, rather than the United States, to decide whether this treaty with the Kingdom of Delaware is legitimate.

3. INTERNATIONAL DECLARATION FROM KING SIGISMUND OF FRIEDLAND

Due to the extensive debate on the expressed reasoning of the Gottische Reich for their invasion of Switzerland, His Majesty the King of Friedland feels it is necessary for Us to contribute a voice to the international discussion. To begin, as has been publicly announced, the Kingdom of Friedland will be offering aid and supplies to the Gothic army presently involved in fighting. His Majesty feels compelled to further inform the international community that the nobility of Friedland have volunteered to contribute from their personal funds in an effort to show solidarity amongst the people of Friedland in support of their neighbours and friends in the Gottische Reich.

It is the opinion of His Majesty the King that the act of war undertaken by the Gothic army has strong precedent in the history of our World. Already, French citizens of Switzerland have been absorbed into the French nation. His Majesty further asserts that accusations of ethnic cleansing, tyranny, and oppression are sorely misplaced. Far from oppressing Swiss citizens, the ethnic Germans among the Swiss shall be freed of a government that does not allow them ethnic independence. The government of the geographic area known as "Switzerland" has thus far denied the individual ethnicities over which it rules the opportunity for self-determination, a right that can be afforded by a federal government to constituting ethnicities easily without sacrificing national integrity.

His Majesty feels it is his duty in the interest of peace and self-determination in Europe to inform the government of Switzerland of the official policy to promote amity between the three independent ethnicities in the Kingdom of Friedland. Germans of Mecklenburg and Inner Pommerania and Czechs of Bohemia are represented by the nobility of their people. The Czech Nobility and German Nobility hold separate courts; no union of the Duchy of Mecklenburg and the Kingdom of Bohemia and Friedland have taken place, though they share a common King and Throne. It is in this way that the nobility of these nations are left their rights to rule their own lands and serfs as they see fit, not a single man of one nation answerable to any man of the other nation, and sharing common responsibility and loyalty to their King in Gitschin.

His Majesty King Sigismund invites the ruler of Switzerland to officially and formally guarantee the independence of the Germans under his rule to determine for themselves the fate they desire. The Germans of the Gottische Reich, further, should be allowed to discourse with their brothers. It is only by this means that His Majesty believes Switzerland will have undertaken all avenues available to prevent further bloodshed and the forceful liberation of the ethnic German people in Switzerland from the multi-ethnic Swiss government.

Done in the name of His Majesty Sigismund I, by the Grace of God King of Bohemia and Friedland, Duke of Mecklenberg and Inner Pomerania, Baron of Gitschen, Prague, Griefswald, and Rostock, Lord-protector of the Free City of Stralsund, and Defender of the Faith.

Signed,

His Excellency Karl Gustav, Duke of Pilsen
Royal Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Kingdom of Friedland

Considering that those areas are sovereign territory of the United States, they have every right to protest. It would be as if someone announced their intent to colonize Bohemia as part of their territory and send settlers. Would you agree that the claim was minor and allow another country to de facto invade your lands?
"No official endorsement or condemnation of the action shall be made until Friedland receives response from the United States in this matter."

5. The Kingdom of Friedland considers these claims minor and does not believe the United States to be in a position to protest, however no official endorsement or condemnation of the action shall be made until Friedland receives response from the United States in this matter.

6. The Kingdom of Friedland regards these claims as dubious, and the Royal Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to see a map outlining present claims by Delaware.

The Kingdom of Friedland further sends envoys to the United States of America in the hopes that they might explain their relationship to the Kingdom of Delaware.
It is not the policy of this government to shelter or quarter foreign non-allied military ships and sailors in our ports, especially while we’re engaged in a war. In order to maintain our security our territorial waters must remain closed to all foreign naval ships that have not signed a treaty with this nation. We have the utmost confidence that our wishes will be respected in this matter.
His Majesty King Sigismund is deeply disappointed by the reactions he has elicited from his neighbours for attempting to guarantee safe trade and passage for ships and asserting the right of Friedland as a sovereign State to protect its interests. It is further regrettable that only one nation has responded positively to the invitation for the international historical celebration to be hosted by His Majesty King Sigismund. The Friedland Navy will be patrolling the Baltic to protect the interests of the Kingdom of Friedland. This should not be considered a threat, but likewise the Kingdom of Friedland will offer no assistance or protection to Swedish, Danish, or Slavorussian victims of piracy and disruption of trade.

Across the horizon, the thunder of nearly 2000 Friedlandic Tanks, APCs, Tank-destroyers, and mobile Flak broke the silence of the early morning. Alongside the Tanks and Lorries carrying troops, an active rode on their Vincent Black Shadows, the rising sun illuminated their brown uniforms. At the head of the column was Generalmajor Andreas Schildhafen, his steel-grey eyes looking to the West, to the battlefield. He had been personally ordered by the King himself to assist in the Gothic attack against the Swiss. Within 24 hours he would be within range of the battle to support the Gothic troops that had already begun to engage the enemy.

“Soon we will be upon them, and they shall know the dedication of Friedland soldiers. Our victory is already assured.”
To His Excellency the Ruler of the Gottische Reich,

As has been formally and publicly announced, the Kingdom of Friedland fully supports the decision of the government of Gottische Reich to bring the Swiss lands into the Gothic Domain. His Majesty King Sigismund would further like to extend to His Excellency the promise of military support in the effort, to spare the young Gothic army excess bloodshed. It would please His Majesty greatly, further, if, upon receipt of said military aid, His Excellency should see fit to offer gratitude by allowing his majesty to establish personal domain in the city of Luzern, for His Majesty much desires a retreat and spa for His Royal Personage and the Royal Court.

It would be deeply appreciated if His Excellency were as swift in His Excellency's reply as possible, for His Majesty would like to have his expeditionary force under His Excellency's command immediately upon receipt of a positive reply. If His Excellency should find the offer unacceptable, His Majesty wishes to extend sincere regret for that outcome and the assurance that material aid to Gothic soldiers shall not be withheld.

In honour, respect, and amity

11. His Majesty Sigismund I, King of Friedland, congratulates his neighbours and friends on their invasion of Switzerland and offers aid of supplies and luxury goods to the soldiers of the Gotische Reich to assist in the operation.

12. BY DECREE OF HIS ROYAL MAJESTY, SIGISMUND I
With little response to His Majesty’s efforts to unite the Baltic in peaceful trade and friendly exchange, it has been made clear to the Kingdom of Friedland that the interests of Friedland in the Baltic must be protected by other means. In this knowledge, His Majesty King Sigismund hereby decrees that a Friedland navy shall be raised to patrol the Baltic and protect Friedland interests in the region.

To raise and command this navy, His Majesty appoints Lord Albrecht von Mecklenburg-Strelitz as the Lord High Commissioner of the Admiralty of Friedland. Other Baltic nations are asked to open their ports to the Friedland Kriegsmarine for refueling, servicing, and respite for Friedland sailors. In return to offering sanctuary to the Friedland navy, ports that allow for the docking of the Friedland navy will be guaranteed protection on the Baltic.

His Excellency Lord Albrecht shall be expanding the present Friedland navy, presently consisting of

SMS Albrecht Wallenstein; Linienschlachtschiff
SMS Stralsund; Kreuzer
SMS Rostock; Kreuzer
SMS Vorpommern; Fregatte
SMS Silisien; Fregatte
SS Odal; Korvette
SS Kreuzzuger; Korvette

These modern ships for the Friedland navy are further supported by the small personal navy of Lord Albrecht himself, consisting of several steam-powered ironclads that have been thoroughly renovated for seaworthiness; the seven small ships consist of

SS Anna Marie; converted mine-layer
SS Sophie; converted mine-layer
SS Wilhelmina; converted mine-layer
SS Friedrich; iron-clad
SS Heinrich; iron-clad
SS Siegfried; iron-clad
SS Jürgen; iron-clad

Finally, a ceremonial navy has been gathered to represent the grand armada planned by Sigismund’s great ancestor Albrecht Wallenstein. In the interest that it might be made clear that Friedland is still interested in peaceful cooperation with its neighbours, this navy shall host historical battle reenactments with other antique ships of the line if other nations should see fit to contribute said ships.

His Majesty King Sigismund looked at the telegraph in his hand and looked back up at the young man who delivered it.

"That will do, boy. Make yourself scarce." A quick bow from the message boy and he disappeared.

Across from him in the room sat a uniformed man with dark hair and piercing blue eyes. His legs folded, he stared at the King. His name was Friedrich von Eisenstadt, one of the men most responsible, besides the King himself, for the establishment of the Kingdom. He was also, consequently, the head of the Friedland Koenigreichswehr.

"Your Majesty, I think we should consider the possibility that we are looking at instability in this country. Mediating the rise of a new government would present us with a stunning opportunity to assert ourselves in the international community. I strongly suggest a military force prepared for affecting some positive change in the government."

The King narrowed his eyes and thought for a moment. "We do not believe it is in Our interests to pursue military action against a friendly state. We believe, however, We should go Ourselves, with a sizable escort to assert the power of the new Friedland government."

"Yes, Your Majesty." Fieldmarschall von Eisenstadt smiled, "Your Majesty will be sent out on the next available ship to the shores of Delaware. Your Majesty will be provided with an armed guard of 100 men and, of course, the usual entourage."

Dear Duke of Pilsen,

Denmark is definitely interested in such a treaty however, the only problem we have with such a bloc is that Denmark and Germany have recently been... fairly distant, if not hostile towards each other. The current war within Europe is also something which is of importance to bear in mind. With the current state that it is, Denmark will be unable to commit to anything which would compromise our position.

I do hope you will receive this message quite quickly,

Yours sincerely,

Tony Montana, Ruler of Denmark
PRIVATE

To His Excellency Herr Montana,

It is with deep regret that We receive your news; so much so that We have decided to respond myself. It is hoped that these negotiations might be held in the spirit of bringing about closer relations among those states on the Baltic; if one nation should deem it unfit to discourse with another, it would be deeply regrettable but We should not consider it avoidable.

His Excellency should let it be known to friends and allies that The Kingdom of Friedland does not hold any state above any other state, nor do We consider proper to Our Royal Place to hold any state that has not heretofore treated with Friedland above any other state. We hope, therefore, that poor relations with one state will not discourage Denmark from participating in non-committal talks with other Baltic states.

If, still, it does not suit His Excellency to enter talks that would involve the State of Germany, We would like to extend to His Excellency an invitation to privately treat with Friedland for the purpose of improving exchange of goods, persons, and culture between Friedland and Denmark.

In Respect and Amity,
His Majesty

18. IN THE NAME OF HIS MAJESTY SIGISMUND I, by the GRACE of GOD, KING of FRIEDLAND and DUKE of MECKLENBERG and INNER POMERANIA,

All states surrounding the Baltic Sea are hereby invited to a diplomatic summit in the city of Prague at the historic Hradschin Palace for discussions of a trade bloc over the Baltic Sea. All nations with a Baltic Port or interests in the Baltic sea may send a diplomat to Prague in one week's time.

The goal of this meeting will be to discuss the establishment of a new economic power in the Baltic for the benefit of all nations surrounding that sea. We hearken back to ancient days in which the Baltic was the richest of the northern seas, in the hopes that this prosperity and close cooperation may once again be recreated.

Therefore, the leaders of Denmark, Sweden & Norway, Finland, SlavoRussia, and Germany shall be welcomed for discussions just as soon as they see fit.

For His Majesty,

As the Delaware delegation's plane approached they saw on the tarmac a small convoys of armoured personelle carriers and black Mercedes C-class Sedans awaited the landing. As the plane came in, the cars started their engines in unison.

John Read stepped off the plane. He was greeted by a tall, dark-haired man in a plain dust-brown uniform, extraordinary only in its black Sam Browne and perfectly shined jackboots. He accent was thick as he greeted the diplomat, his Czech blood clear in his speech.

"Herr Read, welcome to Prague. If you will follow me, we will drive you to the Hradceny, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs awaits to discuss matters of state."

In Berlin

His Excellency Jan Smiřický, now assigned as Ambassador to Germany, gazed out the window of his government jet, an adapted Airbus 319. One of his aides handed the ambassador a small glass of red wine to steady his nerves. Flight always upset him. Normally he refused to even step on a tarmac, but with orders from his King he had no choice. King Sigismund was absolute in his rule; there was no room for questioning-- not even in his own family, a part of which Smiřický soon hoped to be a part with his approaching marriage to Anna Maria von Waldstein.

The plane landed with all the typical roughness the ambassador hated in air travel, and he stepped off to greet the car that was waiting for him at Berlin Flughafen.
