  1. How are they always in bad form?

I mean, I'm genuinely interested, because throughout the greater world out there, in games and in RL, preemptive attacks are used widely and to great effect.

There's that little problem where the preemptive attack backfires. Then what?

  2. Is this a secret clause of the treaty, or just supposed to be unwritten but understood?

It's actually directly written in the Harmlin Accords. This is a supremacy clause if I've ever seen one:

    b. Should any alliance or group which has a treaty with any Härmlin, plan or perform aggressive action towards another Härmlin, the pact with the foreign party will be made null and void and all Härmlin will stand united in repelling the aggressor.

    o/ Harmlins

  3. At some point, you're going to raid GPA and realize that that was a terrible mistake.

To our allies in Poison Clan and their allies and their allies, allow me to thank you for the great honor of fighting with you side by side.

Good luck hanging onto your delusion that most people on your "side" are fighting on your behalf. You really need to realize that whatever the outcome of this war, YOU LOSE. :smug:

  4. Destruction of communities masqueraded as tech raiding.

Larger, well connected alliances ganging up on alliances that have just lost a treaty, or have had no opportunity to establish one.

This doesn't describe the situation with \m/ and NpO. However, it does sound like what \m/ did to FoA to get this whole ball rolling. :smug:

EDIT: can't spell at night. :P

  5. so since none of us know wabout the situation, i guess we can guess. Here's mine: you went to negotiate something with \m/, failed, saw a racial slur and found a psuedo-victory by being an $@! about things that you really could just brush off. right?

No, based on what I hear a more likely timeline is like this:

    1. Grub goes to \m/ about their tech-raiding policy
    2. \m/embers make off-color remarks about Grub
    3. Grub is offended, and thus sees \m/ negotiating in bad faith
    4. Grub leaves and gets Polaris ready for war

The entire discussion about what's offensive and what's not is pretty moot. It's just a stupid idea to do anything possibly offensive around someone who isn't a friend.

  6. If you make the conscious choice to cozy up with two opposing blocs, that's your own problem, not your allies'.

No, it really isn't. The blocs in the next war formed well after this treaty, and for that matter most treaties were signed. Strong allies stick with their friends in wartime. The alternative is ignoring half your treaties, which makes you look like a jerk, or sitting out the war in neutrality, which IMO still makes you look like a jerk.

Regardless, sad to see old bonds unfurled. Good luck to both parties.
