If change is to be expected of GGA then the opportunity for change must be given by those who seek it.
Oh, I'm sure I'll prove myself to be a hypocrite before this war is all said and done. However, let me say that when that time comes... I totally called it. Kinda takes the satisfaction out of it doesn't it? Yeah... I kind of figured it would. I've seen the same guy defend lighter terms for Valhalla while criticizing this thread. I don't understand that. I suppose it just lends credence to my theory that everyone, without exception, is a hypocrite in their own way at least every once in a while. Nobody's perfect. Remember that phrase? I do. I'm not only the president...I'm also a client! Buy Shamwow and get a free Slap Chop and a Graty! Or something. Who cares? What's done is done and no amount of moaning and !@#$%*ing is going to reset the clock. I vote we move on with our lives. I will if everyone else does, I dare ya. I double dare ya.

Really guys...This whole "You'll be just like us." argument is old, stale, and nothing more than an admission of guilt after years of "Who us? We didn't do any of those things! lulz". The major differences between us(Karma or those who are siding with Karma) and you(as in you other guys) is that we begged for years to get you to listen and in a lot of cases, just leave us alone. Enjoy the fruits of your labors. This is what you've always wanted right? Someone to step up and "Do something about it!" as you folks were so fond of saying (ad nauseam) for quite some time now. We obliged you, yet you still complain? What more can we do?
In short, you keep pushing and even the meekest of men will become a blood-thirsty psychotic. Which is exactly the only thing you(The Continuum) have ever really accomplished with any real consistency. Folks, There is no difference between EZI/PZI that I've ever felt. Listen to a man who knows what he's saying. The UJA is forced anybodies throat that want to run for senator. Signatory or not. It's stated in the UJA.
How anyone can have the duty to abide by a document they did not sign is beyond me. UJA is a aged document from back when the hegemony owned the rights to the green sphere and forced alliances they did not like out from it. It's a document that should be burned along with the rest of the hegemony relics.
As for our two alliances stance I'm fairly sure Umbrella got no problem with gga. I don't speak for umbrella. I come from a line of alliances where we or our allies have been pushed around by gga so I won't beat around the bushes with that you're not my favorite alliance on bob. That's all on me though, not umbrella.
What got me to post in this thread though was your arrogance you had when posting in your own surrender thread. You still act like you have daddy around to fight for you and that's understandable because it's been that way for 3 years. I for one hope you keep your arrogance up though. I'd love nothing more than to see you think you'll be fine as long as you cling on to npo.
You've wronged alot of alliances through the years and if you think that these 2500 tech reps was what was 'comming around' you're sorely mistaken.
I was in VE when UJA was getting signed(Gino Felino, ftw!) and I'm telling ya it didn't happen that way and you really should ask people who know how it works. I understand you're angry and you don't like the way things have been going, but this isn't the way to do it. Threats and chest thumping don't get anyone anywhere as we've been seeing these days. Look at what it got NPO? Be the better person and let it go. Or don't. I for one have decided that it's a far better thing to gain respect than hold grudges. I've gotten more accomplished, I'll tell you that.

I'm sorry, but voicing my opinion isn't disrespect. I apologize if the subject is sensitive to you, but this is how I feel. I have also said that Athens is not the problem here. They are receiving reparations here. And also, what kind of world is it where your friends can't tell you that they disagree with your decisions. Isn't the shroud of "private channels ftw" one of the things we are fighting against? Get it out in the open. It's the only way to really get things worked out.

It is really important to choose your friends wisely. They chose the treaties to sign. They chose to stand in line with all the policies that were carried out during their reign. Don't try and act like them being pulled into this war was some fluke occurrence. They have as much blood on their hands as anyone.

Talk about getting off lightly.
I don't think they got off light at all. Aside from a horrendous beating they're paying reps. We felt no real need to do anymore than what we've done including (I think) some pretty fair reps and terms we'd like to see handed down if we were on the other end of the stick. I know if I took a beating like that and had to pay those reps it would sting a bit, but it's doable and that's all that matters. Perhaps you wouldn't have done it that way, but that's not our primary concern. Our first and foremost responsibility is to Athens and our war effort. I'd rather have people who hated me come to respect me than win the love and admiration of a back seat negotiator.

I don't think Mother Teresa, fond though she was of human suffering, would ever be able to exist on Bob. She'd get called names and raided until she quit. Unless she was in peace mode, then she'd just quit when people didn't just up and give her money.

I agree with your point on the reps. As to whether Athens and friends deserve applause, yes, they deserve at least equal applause. I just fear they've wound that tiger just enough to anger it, yet not enough to subdue it. And it's been a nasty tiger.

Um...Are you new? I mean, I hate to be a bother but you are aware this is a surrender thread correct? Also, you are aware that GGA surrendered correct? They wanted peace. We wanted to give them peace. They deserve applause yes. The fought hard and deserved this much needed break from fighting, but I'm not sure what you're trying to get at with your curious phraseology.

EDIT: And I'm not even all that critical here. I'll live with the reps if Athens lives up to the talk and is breaking the cycle of bitter vengeance over and over. I'm cautiously optimistic.

First, bigwoody: Current war aside, show me a single alliance that fought tC/1V that got away without having to pay enormous(and rediculous) reps or worse. Every alliance honors treaties(well almost all, I'll refrain from making NATO jokes) when they enter a conflict of similar magnitude. If you do then, I'll concede that point.
Second, I don't really care for old grudges. I never really had one against GGA other than their going to bat for NPO. Even then, they've got some long days ahead of them and there's no need for the disrespect. You don't like 'em, that's fine. We get it. Everyone gets it. Good for you. There's no need to try to pick a fight that you know they're not going to enter, talking !@#$ to a beaten alliance is cowardly, and wrong.
Third, I know old hatreds die hard. I'm willing to give them the chance to back away from an ally that has basically used them as a meat shield so more and more of their nations can slip into peace mode(like they've criticized so many others for doing.). A move which I wouldn't even bring up if NPO hadn't have tried to call people cowards for doing it first. The GGA today has to prove that they've moved beyond subservience and into an era where they can stand taller than they ever have under NPO's rotten, blackened wing. I hope they will. Who knows? Nobody, but them. That's who.

congrats karma, i am eating my words.
with the exception of the npo, gga was the last alliance i expected to get off with any sort of light terms, and they probably deserved crippling terms more than anyone. to see this... well, it shows that (most of) karma is serious about ending the past cycles of extortion.
im not exactly sure why athens alone got reps in this. in my opinion, demanding reps from anybody besides the primary aggressor (in this case npo) and demanding payments to anyone besides the primary victim (in this case ov) is still extortion, unless there is a detailed reason that these are for a historic crime committed by gga against athens in the past.
im reserving judgment until this war is finally over, but if karma keeps doing things like this, well, perhaps they are serious about change.
or perhaps they're trying to make friends in time for citadel vs superfriends, but only time will tell on that one, won't it
I've been expecting you. Reps are generally a part of terms. We didn't impose any sort of time limit or any other variable that would make it easier for them to violate terms should that condition not be met. We also talked about working things out should they have trouble paying. I've known more than a few (RL) extortionists in my day and they don't behave that way. This just proves that you can ask for reps without being "harsh" or just plain "being a dick" about it. Which anyone who was there can tell you, we most certainly weren't.
And for everyone else. The GGA I saw today is vastly different than the GGA we've seen in the past. I'm convinced that their best days are ahead of them and hope that they understand we hold them in the highest respect. They fought hard and people should recognize that.

Trhoughout M*A*S*H's history, we have NEVER demanded reps from an alliance war. It's been traditional to offer white peace after a solid beatdown. We've found it helps defuse any possible resentments.
