It has been a while since I made any deposits in the litter box but I'm sufficiently backed up to pinch off a few thought nuggests this morning.
It has long been a tradition in the Cyberverse to have a casus belli to justify a war. It didn't matter how flimsy it was or even if it was true. It was run up the flagpole and off to war people went. The discussions would be the usual "no u" back-and-forth nonsense depending on which side of the war the commenter was on. That is how it has always been and old habits die hard, it seems.
As time has gone on this demand for a casus belli has strangled the Cyberverse in many ways. You see tensions rise between groups and then dissipate without a shot fired because both sides crunch the numbers to see who has the advantage and the aggressor has to convince their allies that the casus belli is legit and solid enough to absolve their allies of any "wrongdoing" in the eyes of the general population.
This happens quite often on varying scales but I think the recent exposé from Sardonic shows us a real insight into how much this requirement has controlled the actions (and inactions) of alliances and blocs in the Cyberverse. The gymnastics that people went through in those logs gave me cramp just reading it. The thought process is backwards. They have already decided they want to take an alliance down but the hard work is apparently trying to make up a reason that justifies it under the Cyberverse's casus belli code.
As far as war is concerned, I'm personally not fussed going to war for a cause. My nation and my alliance are there to stand for what we believe in and if doing so means we get our backsides kicked then so be it. I loath contrived drama. I'm tired of people sitting in rooms concocting reasons to roll some alliance over some nonsense.
Here is where I get back to the casus belli requirement. Is it really that important other than for a public relations excercise? If you hate an alliance or you and your allies hate an alliance so much that you actually try and create a problem to give you a casus belli then why not just assemble your armies and attack them? I'd respect an alliance more for being honest and declaring war on a perceived enemy for the reason that they are perceived to be an enemy than some half-arsed casus belli contrived in an IRC channel. Do people think a flimsy casus belli will earn less ridicule than purely saying you hate the alliance you have delcared war on?
If you really believe something is worth fighting for then fight for it. If not then save us all the crap about contrived casus belli and assorted posturing. Stand for what you believe in our sit down and shut up.

Has the time come for Cybernations to employ someone to arbitrate on peace term disputes and perhaps even other inter-alliance disputes?
Every war has the same back-and-forth jabbering about unfair terms and insulting counter-offers and as amusing as it is, it always ends up getting old as the usual mouth-breathers post the same guff in every thread and drive people away from the forum.
This is something that is only going to get worse in the future because of the splintered nature of the current political environment.
    So, what say you Cybernations?
Personally, I'm not sure. While on one hand it would cut a lot of crap when a war winds down but who would you employ in the role, how can you guarantee that they will be neutral in their judgement and that the parties involved will abide by any decision handed down? Does it infringe on the much vaunted alliance sovereignty or does it save alliances the indignity of having their sovereignty trampled on by others post-war?

Ok, so it is local coldening...
Had a massive thunderstorm this afternoon here in what was sunny Melbourne. It came with the added bonus of hailstones the size of golf balls and enough rain to turn Melbourne into Venice. Anyway, here are some pictures taken from my balcony and of my balcony which became a large icebox which would have been great had I had beer to put out there to keep cold.

A failed experiment involving amphibious taxis

Amphibious trams also seemed to be a failure...

The balcony-sized ice-box was showing more promising signs
So, the elevators in the building are still offline due to the flooding so I've got nothing better to do than sit here and post this bollocks on my blog.
Thanks for reading, your subscriptions keep my blog in print.

Try stepping away from Cybernations for a month and returning last week!
An endless assortment of people blubbering about alliances having to pay reps and being held in wars longer than they think they should be. Not that hypocrisy and whining come as a great surprise to me..actually no surprise at all. The main thing that leapt out at me was the balls-to-the-wall manner in which alliances that happily plundered fallen foes are now crying rivers of tears whenever anyone demands reparations from war.
I've been around this place long enough to think I'd seen and heard it all but I think this war has stirred up more stupidity than perhaps any other before. And that is not even taking into account the manner in which the war started or the treaty cluster$%&@ that eventuated.
You have a member of the community running around bemoaning C&G's reparations requirements while he happily gorged himself at the reparations trough after the noCB war and seemed quite content with himself in doing so.
You have alliances that try to take advantage of a perceived foe's moment of weakness and go for the throat but come up with a mouthful of foot and then complain when those they attempted to take out don't give them a pat on the head and call a white peace.
    Hilarious.
For a while the whole "you are as bad as the Hegemony" routine was amusing, then it got old...but now it is back to hilarious as people continue to spout this nonsense as though it is actually an argument in itself.

Newsflash, the Karma War was never about a new era of white peace. If you kick of an aggressive war but take a large divot instead of nailing a drive down the middle of the fairway you don't get to run off, collect your ball and try again later. When people tell you there are no take backs and don't give you white peace the moment you realised you shagged up then you just look like a complete moron wailing on the forum about your foes being worse that the Hegemony. Most of the whiners were the goddamned "hegemony" at some point anyway.
Karma, to me, was about a new era of fair and reasonable terms for vanquished foes (something I advocated quite vocally at the time) and for the most part that has indeed been the case despite the noise generated by the terminally offended. If you and your allies decide to take someone out aggressively then if it goes bad expect to pay some reps. You started it so the people you attacked are within their rights to demand reparations for the damage your aggression caused them.
When the Continuum was running the show even the most peripheral alliance dragged in via treaties were forced to pay reps even when they were on the "defensive" side. Did any of you whiners complain then? Hell no. You guys were clearing your aid slots ready to accept the blood money you had demanded post war. Now you try and tell others they are just as bad as you for wanting reps when you attack them! As I said, it is just too funny.

You guys aren't convincing anyone with more than one firing neuron but, by all means, keep it up as it is still giving me one hell of a laugh watching you try and convince the world you are the victims of horribly unreasonable enemies...who you insult by claiming they are as bad as you. Not even close guys...not even close.

Welcome to my litter box, the final destination of a majority of the world's twinkie stocks. Excuse the mess, Moridin will be calling in later to do some scooping.
I've never had a blog until now. So, with so many people hanging to here my thoughts about the goings on around here I finally caved to the pressure and started a blog.
As it turns out it coincides with a time when I can't be bothered saying much at all so I'll just post this picture.

It is a Prius too, so I have no doubt the license plate reflects the attitude of the driver quite nicely too.
Anyway, TV to watch so I hope you all enjoyed my first little nugget in the litter box. I'll be back some other time with some hard hitting opinion on something...maybe.
