  1. Personally, I think IDP is the only way to play. After several years of exclusive IDP league participation, my knowledge/appreciation for defensive schemes and players has grown incredibly.

As for their fantasy relevance, I would say they matter, but are only occasional game changers. A team owner who ignores/makes poor decisions on defense will suffer, while a good team owner can milk an extra 5-10% edge over his opponents (average over the season). Sometimes, though, with takeaways or defensive TDs, they can make a huge difference.

Also, it was an honor to win last year. My team was not the highest scoring, but I had fairly high consistency and a good coaching efficiency. Edging out TBRaiders was mere luck, though.

    Here's to this year.

I'm not even gonna try and figure out who Doomhouse declared on.
    [/quote]

Umbrella has declarations on: CRAP, TTK, and CSN
MK has declarations on: CRAP, TTK, CSN, and NPL
GOONS has declarations on: CRAP, TTK, CSN, and NPL
Alchemy has declarations on: CRAP, TTK, CSN, and NPL

so far. So 4 alliances apiece (no one in NPL is in range for Umb, but it was a bloc declaration, so meh).

  3. Congratulations to my allies over in IRON, and to the fantastic people in Umbrella.

Also, ODN and IRON are now separated by a single (albeit optional) degree. This is good news, in my opinion, but also very interesting given the history between the two in the months immediately leading up to Karma, and the years since.

  4. Using exactly the numbers stated in the July update (the NG and TLR numbers are probably wrong, but I have no frame of reference), the sanction race had a net loss of 178 member nations. If you ignore NG and TLR, that jumps up to a net loss of 260 member nations.

  5. I actually opened the old thread and read the context, and that 12th post from Tedyyo was a quote of a DoE Batallion wrote whilst drunk. He posted it for humor's sake, but I suppose it makes a lot of sense that their drunken joke of a charter was the closest they ever got to the real thing.

Also, PC protected these guys? OOPS.

  6. Congratulations to all involved in Powerful Friends, this will make for a very well unified military bloc. Prawn Farmers' small numbers are very concentrated amongst the NS spectrum (read: upper tier), so it will be very difficult to defeat, but then Precious Ferrite also won't even touch the mid and lower tiers of any opponent. Good thing they have allies!

Also, two notes on the treaty text:

The joint treaty clause is interesting. I don't remember seeing it in any other bloc treaties, and it seems like a way of acknowledging defacto bloc members, and then making it very difficult to cancel or modify the agreement.

I always worry about mandatory voting periods to approve war without some exception allowed to expedite circumstances. Depending on the publicity of the event that provides the CB, and depending on the OPSEC integrity of Phony Fakes, 48 hours could allow for an undesirable rally for the opposing side (perhaps a rally to PM :P). If I were in one of the alliances in Potent Finns, I would be pushing for a clause that allows any given alliance to act after 12 hours notice, or something, provided they willing give up the possibility of a unified declaration. Or possibly a clause that states that once all member alliances have submitted a vote, the remaining voting period can be skipped.

  7. From what I understood about the whole cancellation of the OoO business, I never could determine Pacifica's motive at the time. Once the noCB war started, it became clear, though, that NPO decided to run the whole internal smear campaign (Doitzel's big info dump) in order to ready their public for the inevitable situation in which Polar would be getting rolled, and making sure that the Pacifican community would be safely distanced from them by that point.

I think the fact that Moo ran an internal propaganda campaign and the fact that he attempted to prevent noCB are two compatible situations. The first was a safety measure knowing the second would only be viable temporarily.
