Frodo and his companions were fighting for the Shire or home, a continuation of all that was dear to them.Throughout History there were victors fighting this cause and there were vanquished doing the same. In the US the Native American Sioux fought for their sacred Black Hills and a life they knew and loved. They were vanquished and now a monument to four Presidents scar their sacred land.

History teaches those who will listen there are no guarantees, life will continue even if all you hold dear disappears. But let History record that all I hold dear would not disappear without a clash of arms and a Pyrrhic victory for the victor. That the civilization of the West will not cease with a whimper but with a voice that will echo and reverberate down through the ages that such men and women lived.
