Special Report

Earlier this morning, Krieg forces invaded the European nation of France in a clear aggressive move to gain territory in Europe. This stands in complete defiance of the international peacekeeping effort that Rakata has both supported and participated in. As such, the HoloNet has received word earlier this afternoon that the peacekeeping mandate in the Empire of Krieg is canceled and all Rakatan forces are already wrapping up operations there and will be redeployed to the homeland within 48 hours. United Netherlands officials have cited the same concerns and are strongly expected to follow suit, if over a longer timeframe.

Rakatan troops pose for a picture in front of a checkpoint in Zaragoza North, just after the last patrols.

Most Rakatan personnel are nearing the end of their cycles in Krieg Empire, and will find themselves back in the homeland within 24 hours. This comes after the much heated and aggressive movements by the Empire into France. Whilst the official word on the attack against France was to prevent the Anarchist Rebels in that country from continuing "attacks" against Krieg villages, many suspect imperialist expansion. The motives are not clear, however the Rakatan government has made it clear to us they wish no part in Krieg's defense, or the maintenance of peace there.

Special Report - Ministry of Military Affairs

A recent report from military analysts suggest that most of the Rakatan Military remains undeployed and on reserve. Contrary to the official words given on the state of the Rakatan military, most of it's 10.000 active service personnel remain on reserve status, and are on civilian status. Only about 3.500 personnel readily serve as a call on force to respond to any aggressive movements by another foreign power. The ministry of military affairs has issued a mandate that the armed forces of Rakata decrease their standing personnel to 7.000 active personnel and 5.000 reserve personnel. This will be a cut of over 3.000 service members, and will be an est. $1.3 billion shilling budget decrease over the next fiscal year.

Special Report from Ministry of Military Affairs

The Ministry of Military affairs issued a report today on the recent funding being given to promote and finance new defense proposals by the Ground Division of the National Defense Force. The NDF issued a mandate last week that ordered all major automotive and heavy industry leaders to develop a state-of-the-art main line combat tank to serve for the next 20 years with the Rakatan Imperium. Answering the call, the Gr. 1.01 was chosen as the primary design and prototype for the National Defense Force's new main line combat tank.

While most of it's armor and engine specifications remain classified it is reported that the armor on the tank is of a new, and experimental low grade Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA). It is similar to the ERA bricks placed on older style tanks of Russian origin. The main gun of the Gr. 1.01 is a 105mm smoothbore cannon designed to deliver both HE and SABOT rounds. Indigenous development of the program has begun and construction of the first models will take some time.

Special Report

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs canceled the Treaty of Antwerp today, amidst the recent declaration of war by United Netherlands. A statement was followed up:

We do not make this decision lightly, and while it pains us that such drastic action must be taken, we do so in the preservation of both our neutrality and our firm resolve to work in the maintenance of peace. We do not recognize, or support the nation of the Holy Roman Empire, nor do we recognize it's right to claim any territory outside it's own means to politically, and morally govern. We feel that no nation has the right to force unification, or independence upon another. Likewise, we do not feel that the nation of Rakata was given sufficient notice of the United Netherlands declaration of war, and on such a flimsy casus belli as a "perceived" threat. The nation of Bavaria has given nothing but total and outward compliance to all queries regarding their policies. Unlike nations in the recent past, they have not responded to vitriol and the obvious threats against their nation with violence or further antagonistic actions.

In conclusion, we feel that our paths are no longer on the same paths; those of neutrality, peaceful cooperation and cooperative peacekeeping operations. We feel that it places our nation at great risk to remain close friends with a nation that is willing to throw away it's neutrality at the slightest hint of a state that verbally expresses it's wishes to peacefully unite a common people based upon political, religious and ethnic grounds. While we do not agree with this desire to unite Europe, we cannot, and will not support a treaty that is part and pacrel to a nation engaging in an offensive war against any nation.
