Transportation

Road Network

Top Gear uses a three-tier major road system to organise its vehicular transportation. There are the "Hyperways" and the "Superways", colossal roads spanning hundreds of miles across the entire country. Then there are Motorways, major roads which span across entire provinces. Lastly there are Municipal/District Roads, which are smaller-scale roads that span across entire cities. Beyond that are even smaller Local Roads that allow traffic to navigate through the suburbs.

There are two Hyperways in Top Gear, which are two extremely long straight roads with three to four lanes in either direction. They are designed to carry the majority of national traffic and commuters travelling long distances as well as shorter ones. Both Hyperways connect at Silverstone, capital of the Chicago Province and the centre of all industry in Top Gear. One road stretches west across the country to Homopolis, the other cuts across the Holy Imperium to reach New London City.

Then there are also two Superway networks. One in the west of the country, which spans from Maserati connecting with four other major cities. The other is in the east, which, contrary to the other, is not laid out as a network but is instead one very long road that goes all the way from Vineville to the very south of Top Gear, ending at the national capital; BBC Two.

Finally the motorways, a national network of roads that covers every province. These link off the Superways and Hyperways to create the advanced network we have today. The motorways purpose is to allow travel across and between two provinces, unlike the larger highways which cover several. Only the Ferrari-Bend Motorway stretches over more than two provinces.
