  1. You said it best, Junk

Although some of the enemy may mock and cajole us, every Imperial sets aside their stormtrooper helmets with pride in their hearts, for with honor and chivalry they have walked through shadow of the valley of death, and no fear touches them, and no dishonor stains them, and they walk, be they living or dead, as gods amongst nations.

The IAA originated from a fleet sent on a mission from coruscant itself, the Imperial Assault and Recon Force toiled for many years through unkown space, fighting off untold legions of Yuuzhan Vong, until our crippled fleet arrived on Planet Bob to form a new, bright, civilized Empire.

Much was lost in this conflict, millions of Imperial citizens slaughtered, millions more loyal soldiers dead in honorable battle in defense of the Empire, strength reduced to a tiny fraction...

And although this Imperial Colony is destroyed, the Empire forever lives on, and perhaps when they discover this planet and learn our story through long crushed rubble and forest covered cities, they will learn what happened and grieve.

    Forever Empire,

    o/ IAA

"And although this Imperial Colony is destroyed, the Empire forever lives on..."

    Also, via your own words:

How would you know if you were not a member?

A number of options were voted on and placed on the table, and Disbandment was selected with a majority vote.

Perhaps you should reconsider you previous statements. Doesn't sound like you disbanded the alliance--as an aside, you don't sound quite so noble here.

  2. I was never a warm and fuzzy sort of leader, I prefer dealing in hard facts and political reality. Perhaps that makes me somewhat unpopular.

I'm not sure that's what makes you unpopular. But you're free to presume or speculate as to why people don't like you.

If you like I can reference you to arguments and papers that discuss the concept of the political alliance.

You can, but I'm certain they're not worth the paper that they're written on. For fun, I googled "alliance" and discovered the wiki definition (1st def--didn't want to be accused of cherry-picking) of an alliance is simply: "An alliance is an agreement between two or more parties, made in order to advance common goals and to secure common interests."

I believe what we have here fits the definition. I'm not going to bore you with the details, but you know full well that what you see is not always what you get. What I do note, however is the lack of requirement in the above-captioned definition to disband a legal charter and I certainly don't see any requirement of your approval for an alliance to exist. As one of the original Senators who voted to disband (to save your hide) during the war (and was brought to ZI and had to reroll), I was also one of the available Senators who decided to participate in our glorious reformation several months ago, so I full well understand the happenings of past and present--so I support our Emperor, past and present, Chimmy.

I can't help you feel you failed in your short stint as IAA's Emperor; your efforts to assume responsibility by admitting your failures at this late date are understandable, but at the same time are unnecessary and juvenile at this point. The best you can hope for now is to simply remain hidden and isolated in the bowels of IAA's history, much like you have for the past year, and know that your past failures have not been forgotten. Perhaps one day you will understand the mechanisms of your failures, for time and a certain reflection on the past encourages enlightenment.

On that note, Happy Birthday, IAA.

  3. Hmmm. Sounds like the parties need an arbitrator otherwise this war is going to go on until I collect Social Security (which is sooner than most of you realize, but that's not the point).

Perhaps a 10 day war with a limit on the use of nukes or only 7 days of gang-play will work. I don't know; there's got to be some neutral ground somewhere that will eventually improve my environment.

The immovable object vs the irresistible force. Problem for me is I don't know who's who at this point.

  4. It was a term of surrender in the One Vision dispute to admit to eating his hamster. I, for one, didn't actually eat it, although admittedly I stated I did.

Just wondering if anyone had actual knowledge... And perhaps it will be a term of peace in the current conflict for NPO leadership to admit they actually consumed the hamster.

Memories for some of us are long.

  5. My perspective on this is from a long-term player who was essentially forced to re-roll by NPO during the NPO-GATO war. Some of my memory is a little rusty (due to the age of events and me being on painkillers for a recent accident), but the below facts are true as best as I can remember. Even though I've been a CN member for almost 3 years and I don't post much, I felt compelled to comment on the current conflict. Bear in mind that this is my personal opinion and does not necessarily reflect any opinions held by others.

I was a member of the IAA who came to GATO's defense during the NPO-Gato war. I was a 40K nation, who, after nearly 60 days of being triple-teamed by NPO and their allies, was reduced to a pile of rubble and in bill-lock. Of course, even though I asked for assistance from NPO's government to get out of bill-lock, their reply to me was there would be no assistance forthcoming and I was not allowed to receive aid while a NPO prisoner. As a result, I had to re-roll and lost my wonders and nearly 18 months worth of work on my nation. Also, as an aside, the IAA ceased existence as an alliance forcing me to become a NPO prisoner for nearly a month. Finally, they let me go when they decided they couldn't protect all their prisoners from tech-raiding. (I was tech-raided while a NPO prisoner and they apparently found it difficult to defend me because I was so small. There's a thread somewhere on these forums from a year ago about the issue if anyone is interested.)

All said, I lost almost all my infrastructure, nearly 1500 tech, and my wonders during the course of the war. I received absolutely no assistance in return (not that I expected any, other than to be allowed to recover from billlock--yet I was specifically told that I would be allowed no aid while a prisoner and they were not going to provide it). This was the point in time where I had to decide whether or not I wanted to continue to play in the CN community. As evidenced by my statement here, I chose to stay. Today, I'm a healthy 25K nation who still has not fully recovered from my destruction nearly a year ago to the day.

In some respects, I have very little sympathy for the path NPO has chosen. They have been ruthless victors over their foes in all of their wars; using significant financially destructive mandated reps for their own growth programs, viceroys, and a variety of other mechanisms designed to dishearten and intimidate their foes. So much of what they received was not necessarily built on their own; much of their growth was due to their foes misfortunes. In the end, some of what they did was simply playing the game well; some of what they did, to me, bordered on abuse to the game.

On the other hand, even in spite of the above, I do not personally feel that anyone should suffer the same fate that I suffered. To ask for the virtual destruction of any nation or alliance, either financially or militarily, does not serve any long-term purpose other than to ensure that revenge will be sought one day. I am not privy to the financial condition of any of NPO's nations, but whatever it was 60 days ago is far different from what it is today. Also, those nations not in peace mode (I am somewhat dismayed that many members stayed in peace mode, yet other alliances were threatened with ZI who had members in peace mode to protect their financial resources while at war--this is a hypocritical stance that has already been discussed, so I will not dwell further on what's good for the goose) have been pounded, so they too are not in good financial shape. So I do see both sides to this coin and I understand why Karma wants access to the top NPO nations for a short period of time. But I also understand why NPO wants to reject this particular term--but it will certainly come at the cost of those not in peace mode.

So, for me, I guess it comes down to this; I believe that there should be some fairly significant terms that teaches lessons against expansionism. I would hate to see the fate that I suffered to be suffered by anyone, even against those who caused my nation to be destroyed. Complete destruction of any nation or alliance seems to me, to be against all the principles of fair gamesmanship. Seems as though both sides should get back to the drawing board and find a compromise that satisfies both parties. Nobody should lose the fine art of negotiation due to selfish reasons.

Hope I made some sense. If not, please don't flame the messenger...

  6. I've been in a POW camp for 2 days now, yet my nation continues to suffer damage. My nation should have been out of anarchy on Jun 1, but even that has been extended. The expectation is that my nation will be protected while in NPO's camp. She's already in anarchy and bill lock, yet the attacks continue--even though peace has been requested. It is unknown who I should contact about the POW camp--there is no point of contact available, and I'm not inclined to search the universe for someone to solve this problem. Nevertheless, this needs to be resolved immediately.

Just want to ensure that POW Camp policies of previous wars are still in place--that is, that nations will be protected by the POW alliance. If that's not the case, then I would like to be released from the Camp so I can seek protection elsewhere--because I no longer belong to an alliance.

Your nation has been defeated in battle. You do not have enough troops to defend your nation and your government has been thrown into Anarchy. You have lost all of your tanks, 0 spies, 4.27 infrastructure has been destroyed, 10.11 technology was lost and $8,439.98 of your money reserves was destroyed due to the invasion and resulting riots. What troops you did have deployed have also been returned home.

  7. One should not sign treaties if they won't honor them in the future. Aligning with alliances which back out of treaties is not the sort of friendship that one envisions when treaties are signed in the first place. Fact is when the winds of war start blowing, everyone checks their MDPs, etc to see how much support they're going to have for the fray. And to just bail and join (or stay out of the way) what is perceived to be the winning side is not what this game is about--although, clearly, over the past year or so alliance after alliance canceled their treaties when the tanks started rolling, and what was left was a one-side destruction of alliances who were left in the cold to fend for themselves. For those who back out of treaties simply to save your butt, I say this: just remember that you may need some help someday. And what goes around, has a very strange way of coming around again. Although in the very near future, there may be only one vision to alliances on Planet Bob.

Nevertheless, do not sign them if you're not gonna honor them.

    That's just my personal perception.
