The federal government of the USO announced today, through a press conference by the Federal Secretary of the Interior, that it intends to be opening several world-class universities across the nation, and at least one in each state. More details are expected later.

Why am I not surprised that Tianxia is ignoring a treaty that no other than the current Imperator signed himself?

Unless I'm totally misunderstanding what you're saying and thus are arguing you don't care either way?
Explanation to clear up any misunderstanding: Agreement was that the Maldives goes to Tianxia if the USO ever falls. Not that I'm going to let the USO fall - my last post was only a few days back.

Thanks Sarah for showing that I'm not inactive. As a matter of fact my last post was one even fewer days ago than the one you linked to, but I can't seem to find it.

    So many landgrabbers everywhere :P

  4. As the pirates were making their getaway Federal Police troops had arrived at Auckland and the city was going into a lockdown. A large amount of the pirates were caught, although their leader was able to make a getaway to her ship.

State coastguard ships began to surround the Auckland harbor, as rescue and emergency efforts were underway and the city's emergency services sprung into action...

    ------------
Soon following, a public message from the federal government of the United States of Oceanesia would be broadcast to the world, especially the region, announcing the incident in Auckland.

And just a few moments later the Auckland High Court would issue the following warrant:

A large-scale investigation and search would be soon launched...

  5. As lucky as the pirates had been when entering Auckland, the very scale of their operation would inevitably lead to their exposure. The large amount of what seemed to construction workers under Auckland's bridges throughout the city seemed out of order. Neither the Auckland municipal council, the New Zealand State government, or the Oceanesian Federal Government had ordered any large scale work on Auckland's bridges.

State police went to investigate several of the sites...

"Good grief!" an officer would shout out as he realized what was going on. Scuffles, some violent, followed and some of the pirates were taken into custody after some long fights. An interrogation of the strange thug-like offenders was ordered.

Morgan's plan was about to fall apart and she herself was now at risk of being captured... unless she acted fast.

State police began to scour the city, hoping to the diffuse any other explosives. If they failed to diffuse even only a few, chaotic scenes would almost certainly unfold.

Oceanesian Broadcasting Corporation - OBC News:
Informing the nation from Malé to Wellington

"BREAKING NEWS" a voice would announce as normal programming was suspended: "There are initial reports coming in of a seemingly large plot by an unknown group to attack Auckland. New Zealand State police are investigating and special Oceanesian Federal Police troops are expected to be dispatched to the city from the national capital, Oceanopolis, soon, to assist in the operation NZ state police are undertaking to secure the city. More details to come soon."

  6. "The United States of Oceanesia wishes the CSC's military and law enforcement agencies all the best in repealing any future such attacks. The people of USO stands by those of the CSC during this turbulent time."

  7. The pirates had rightly calculated that there would be little impediment for them to make their way towards Auckland. The United States of Oceanesia had long committed itself to pacifism and the military forces it had were only there to exist as a backup for the Federal and State police forces if, for example, public protests or demonstrations became violent, or to assist civilian law enforcement agencies and border agencies. The USO did not consider a blue water navy to be at all necessary and did not maintain one - which clearly made things easier for the pirates.

As the pirate fleet neared Auckland, Oceanesia's largest city and main pacific port, none but certain commercial vessels would spot them - and only from afar. The New Zealand State Coastguard was also more concerned about protecting vulnerable marine habitats and environments and maintained a very low presence near Auckland. All ships which sighted the pirates' vessel would only see the flag of Othel from afar and so nothing seemed out of order for the alarm to be raised.

All the circumstances worked in favour of the pirates... at least for now.

  8. Vice President Julia Manuel greeted Lady Protector Valeria Sangral: "Pleased to meet you Lady Protector".

The Vice President would then ask both the Prime Minister & Lady Protector of the Southern Cross if they would like to, at some point in the future, visit the United States of Oceanesia: "It would be our pleasure to host you. I hope we can establish formal bilateral relations at a meeting in the USO".

  9. The United States of Oceanesia has noted this statement from Selenarctos and orders most of its representatives to the Oceanic Union Bloc Council home. A few representatives will remain behind and will now act instead as direct diplomatic representatives from the USO to Selenarctos. The USO now looks forward to building a stronger direct bilateral relationship with Selenarctos, which is the USO's oldest ally.

With the ending of the OU, the USO reaffirms its commitment to peace and freedom as well as the promotion thereof in the regions which Oceanesian states are located in.

The USO further invites any nations in the region to contact us to build new relationships if they so wish to if this announcement has lifted any barriers to previous attempts.

"Vice President Manuel, it is an honor to finally meet one of our fellow Oceanic leaders, I do hope you won't be the only one in attendance today, but your presence is certainly appreciated nonetheless. I cannot think of a country that we probably hold a more friendly bond with then your own," noted Whittaker, after offering a handshake and a greeting to the arriving USO dignitary.
"Thank you, it is a great privilege to be here" the Vice president would say as she shaked hands with Whittaker. "The United States of Oceanesia is busy preparing for elections, so I may be the only top level official who can make it here unfortunately. I look forward to strengthening the bonds of our friendship during my time here", she would continue with a smile.

OOC: My CNRP timeline for events such as elections = real time. So weeks of preparations for elections in RP = RL weeks of preparation.

    Preparations for elections

Preparations for elections for federal, state, and local governments within one month are underway. The census which was conducted is expected to be released soon, which will decide how much seats in the House of Representatives and how many Electoral College votes each state receives.

  12.
Oceanesian protectorate in Australia terminated and new USO land border negotiated

Today marked the end of the Oceanesian protectorate over Australia with the Commonwealth of the Southern Cross being handed full control - a new border is now established between the USO and CSO, with the United States of Oceanesia retaining the uppermost area of the tip of Queensland and the Torres Strait Islands.
Mission in New Guinea moves to an end

Oceanesian forces which were dispatched to New Guinea following the fall of Grand Papua have been ordered to move out of the area of control of the new Republic of Papua - Oceanesian forces present were moved out of the central areas of the island of New Guinea to West Papua and the Bismarck Archipelago, areas which are not part of the new Republic of Papua.
One new state and another one expanded

The State of the South Torres Strait Islands has absorbed the rest of the Torres Strait Islands and is now renamed to the 'the State of the Torres Strait Islands'.

A new state, North Queensland, was founded following a snap poll in area in the tip of Queensland which was retained by the USO. Congress voted to admit North Queensland as the 12th state of the union soon after a legislative convention elected by the people of North Queensland voted to ratify the Constitution.

  13. Outside Yarralumla House the flag of the United States of Oceanesia was lowered in a ceremony as the Governor-General formally vacated his post by proclamation - a phone call minutes later from the Oceanesian federal government confirmed the official termination of the Oceanesian protectorate over Australia and the handing over of power to whatever governing entity the Commonwealth of Southern Cross is under.

    --

By this time Oceanesian troops had completely withdrawn from everywhere in Australia except Queensland where the troops from Brisbane were crossing the new USO-CSO border, erecting a flag pole and a small checkpoint.

    --

"The government of the United States of Oceanesia wishes the Commonwealth of the Southern Cross all the best, and look forward to establishing further friendly relations. Good day to you Mr. Abel" Barton would say as the shook Abel's hand and then soon afterwards made his way to Canberra International Airport.

  14. Please mark the tip of Queensland and the rest of the Torres Strait Islands as part of the United States of Oceanesia -- as coloured in red for the tip, and circled in red for the islands, on the map below:

Update, it seems that on some browsers the map isn't showing up so I'm hoping it fixes itself within the next few hours or I'll upload it somewhere else.

Yes, I'm not sure if it's just me but it would seem that the map doesn't show up using Google Chrome.

  15. Barton waited patiently as the Australian Independence Council delegation discussed the document.

After Abel had replied, Barton replied back: "It would be quite easy for the government of the United States of Oceanesia to accept such as provision - considering that Oceanesia has a policy of general pacifism and neutrality anyway."

    ---

By the time Barton had replied the pull-out of the Oceanesian troops was already under-way: Troops in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, and the ACT, were to withdraw completely by means by air and sea. Troops in stationed in Brisbane, Queensland were pulling out by land northwards towards the tip of Queensland, and beyond the new USO-CSO land border.

    ---

Barton continued: "If we have come to an agreement then I propose we make our way outside where we can complete the formal transferral of power."
