The recent peace by GATO has me thinking. Why did they fight at all?
It is clear to me that none of GATO's allies were going to be subjected to terms/reparations. So why did GATO fight? Before even entering the war why didn't they go to the alliances that were fighting against their direct allies and officially get the peace terms that IAA, TIO, and LoSS would receive. To me, it is clear that GATO would have been told that the wars against those three alliances would be peace without reparations, essentially white peace or perhaps at worst one of those reviews or a clause to not enter in the Polar side or Pacifica side down the line. Considering some of GATO's comments in the peace topic that they would not burn for NpO, they could have saved themselves alot of trouble if they would have attempted diplomacy. Not entering the war would have it's own consequences but would yield the same result.
GATO is not the only alliance that entered in a similarly pointless fashion. You can see it already with any alliance that gets peace without the tech and money reparations. Those alliances that bow out of the war with peace like GATO's or peace and a review and or with a non-re-entry clause, might as well have stayed out of the war and worked diplomatic channels instead of having their alliances face so much damage.
Everyone needs to get out of the mindset that your ally is in so you must declare within X days or your cowards. If the result is going to be the same then you better work the diplomatic channels and not enter the war.
If your allies enter a war and they are being told they will face months of reparations or war to destroy their alliance or disbandment, then that is when you go ahead and enter as quickly as possible. Most likely, as I stated earlier a simple peace is in store for most alliances. A harsher peace is only being threatened against us in Pacifica and Polaris.
I would like to hear your thoughts on this, thanks.
