  1. Keep in mind that there's a quality component here - the transaction isn't just money for technology. The buyer is incurring some amortized cost over every transaction that the seller will flake out and quit, steal the money and make you have to bribe an enforcer, or get attacked and need rescuing. For his part, the seller is in part acquiring that guarantee from the buyer that he'll be bailed out if someone raids him. I therefore suggest that the 3m/100 deal is more likely to be achieved if the buyer is extremely influential (offering more protection) or if the seller is extremely new or a loner (meaning there's a higher risk he quits or gets raided). By contrast, the 3m/50 deal is more likely to be achieved if the buyer is weak (offering little protection) or the seller is strong (needing less protection and being less likely to quit). My perspective, as somebody with a NS of 11k, is that I can easily justify selling at 3m/50. The buyers are pretty much guaranteed that I won't quit the game, and since I maintain a large standing army and a relatively large warchest, the odds of me being raided (or at least, of me not being able to handle the raid on my own) are very low.
  2. Great, thanks for the link to the appropriate thread - it explains exactly what I needed to know. One of the other alliance's nuclear-capable members just started declaring war on us, so unless somebody finds some cooler heads that have any remote interest in prevailing, we should be spicing up the nuke reports tomorrow night!
  3. The wiki says that there's a 24 hour wait period on nukes. This might become highly relevant in the very near future over in TE, so could somebody please clarify what this means? My interpretation is: 1) After war is declared, you can't use a nuke for 24 hours. The phrasing seems to indicate that this is actually a 24 hour timer and not waiting until the next server day, so you can't declare right before midnight and use a nuke right after midnight. 2) If you don't have any nukes, you can wait until 24 hours after war is declared, then buy and use one immediately. After the next server midnight, you can buy another and use it immediately. The 24 hour timer doesn't only start once you own a nuke, and the buy-one-per-day limit applies to server days and not an explicit 24 hour timer. Are these assumptions all correct? I think my alliance is about to be forced into a war at 5:1 odds, so if I discover later that they aren't, the consequences could be rather dire! (Alas, the downside of establishing moral hazard for people raiding your nations...) Thanks!
  4. You lose a point of environment (and hence some happiness and population count) if your effective soldier count (not the real number of soldiers) is more than 60% of your population. I always dismiss down to a bit under that limit before collecting taxes.
  5. Arcturus Jefferson's offer has been accepted, leaving one slot open. AmpaSand, 3m/100t is probably fair in trading with a new nation, just based on the actuarial analysis. Sometimes they quit, sometimes they flake out and you have to bribe yet another country to go attack them, etc. The way I see it, the reason I can charge 3m/50 is because I'm selling security. A nation that's approaching 10k NS probably isn't going to be abandoned, and since I sit on a reasonable warchest, you don't even need to worry about bailouts against raiders. All you do is log in every ten days to tend to the foreign aid transfers. Edit: Last slot full. I'll post again if I need more buyers.
  6. Bump. Two more slots open, looking to sell tech at 3m/50. Long-term deals preferred, as I can commit to at least a few months.
  7. Filled up all slots until Dec 16, when two more open up. (They're locked up from acting as a middleman for another agreement.) I'll bump this thread then.
  8. Send me a PM in game, or just send the first $3M. My nation should be about the right size - 9000 NS means big enough that I have zero reason to mess around, but still small enough that I'll be a consistent seller for a while. My nation: http://www.cybernations.net/nation_drill_d...ation_ID=324421
  9. To be a little more specific, find a trade for something besides oil. It's one of the least useful resources unless you can get all the industrial bonus resources (and specifically automobiles), and it costs you a point of environment. You also should change your government position on nuclear power. You only get an economic bonus from approving of nuclear power if you actually have access to uranium, and taking this position costs you one point of environment as compared to forbidding all nuclear research. Keep in mind that the global radiation due to nuclear warfare is sitting at around 2.75, so you can't get it any lower than that.
  10. The transfer has been received, and I have sent a transfer of $2 million (plus a soldier to guard it) onward to Agack of the nation Maximus. It's been a pleasure doing business.
  11. I'll second the answer of between 999 and 1999. I started at 1600 infrastructure, just because I didn't see the point of wasting my time for smaller gains than at that level. At 1600, my income was 760k per day (with banks) and my bills were 370k per day (without camps) or 230k per day (with camps). If I didn't swap, them I'd make 15*(760-370) = 5.85m net profit every 15 days. If I instead swap on a 15 day cycle, then I make 15*(760-230)-1250 = 6.7m net profit every 15 days, or the equivalent of ~60k extra per day. Not earth-shattering, of course, but still a 15% improvement over not swapping. Context: I'm in a B/C/FF trade circle (+uranium and furs), and my bills are a bit higher than most because I maintain a large standing army to beat off pesky tech raiders. I also swap my DEFCON/threat and buy a max soldier complement since I don't take any of the economic hits (aside from bills) as long as I get rid of the soldiers before collecting. My improvements for this calculation were 5xBanks/LCs, 5xStadiums, 4xFactories, 1xSchool, 1xHarbor. (Technically I swap out 4 banks and the school.) I don't worry about maintaining enough cash to pay 15 days' worth of bills since that number is small compared to my war chest. I don't swap factories yet, but will probably start soon. I don't tech trade because I travel too much and worry I'd have to go out of my way to make foreign aid deadlines, but might try to start anyway, since the additional income would be a significant fraction of my total income. Tech trading lowers the fractional value of improvement swapping, of course.
  12. I have to admit that I've thought about this occasionally. For example, there are currently 11 rulers with variations on the name of Hitler. Surely we could do something to trim that number down a bit, right? (Sadly, only one is in my NS range, and technically his name is Not Hitler. This confuses me enough to stave off war for now.)
  13. For Set 1 Circle E, we picked up spices and uranium when we recruited Otrygg the Destroyer. All we need is iron/wheat, but I've been actively recruiting and haven't gotten anybody yet. Thanks again for organizing the trade circles...
  14. Set 1/Circle E is no longer complete. We lost eaglescouter18 (iron/spices) to inactivity, and it appears that we're about to lose quickrunner (uranium/wheat) as well.
  15. Great, thank you for the fast help!
  16. It looks like demon owner's nation got deleted, so he has been dropped from Set I Circle G. We now need a replacement source of aluminum and sugar. (Independently, I also need wheat...)
  17. If you wanted to add water (perhaps going for beer, if you also add wheat), I could join. I have water and marble.
  18. I have marble/water, and am willing to switch to Maroon. It appears that Set 1 / Group G would be the best place for me to go, but I'm willing to slot into anything that's already set up (don't see the point of waiting until the circle is complete). I don't have a harbor yet (just remade my nation), but it appears that there isn't a sixth nation for that group anyway yet. I can get the harbor by the time it matters. Nation Ruler: Einer Nation Link:http://www.cybernations.net/nation_drill_display.asp?Nation_ID=324421 Resources: Marble, Water Which set and circle do you want to be in? Set 1, Circle G (or any other where it makes sense) Are there any specific wild card resources that you want? Wheat and Coal would be nice. Wouldn't mind something besides Uranium. If you are not in Maroon, will you be able to move when the circle is complete? Yes. Are you willing to have non-Maroon trade partners? Prefer not, just to maximize the happiness bonus.
  19. I have marble and water, so if anybody's starting a similar trade circle, let me know. Haven't bothered joining an alliance yet, so could change team (currently black) if necessary.
