  2. You see the angry Yoshi in my avatar? Right, not the happy one in my sig but the POed one. He'll beat you down if you take my update. It means nothing that update is two hours away - I don't care. You touch, you die (IC, because this is an OOC forum and I don't feel like getting banned tonight).

I wasn't even thinking of updating until you posted this... now I want to do it more than ever

    Commentary

Really strong gains for our top 4 alliances, which goes to show that rich always find a way to get richer. Unfortunately the same can not be said for Ragnarok who has really been determined to stick to the downwards spiral approach, they take the biggest loser title for today at a staggering loss of over a third of a point, but misery loves company and Invicta is happy to keep Ragnarok company with a loss of over a quarter of a point, dropping below two alliances. New Polar Order on the other hand had a strong showing today and has moved within striking distance of The Phoenix Federation who lose one tenth of a point. Our biggest gainer title is jointly shared today by The Order of the Paradox and Nueva Vida as they gain over a quarter of a point. Nueva Vida also pulls away from the pack and towards the LoSS/WTF/NV/NADC Challenge Line: 16.00, where riches and fame await them. In other news Green Protection Agency is very close to passing Grand Global Alliance attempting to claim the 2nd strongest green alliance title. Also The Dark Evolution, Greenland Republic, Mushroom Kingdom, and Monos Archein are painfully close to one another, one might say that a challenge is in order :jihad:. Finally Random Insanity Alliance drops below Add Line, get back on track guys, I know you can do it, you've overcome the drop line's clutches more than once before!

Today's shout-out goes to: New Polar Order congrats on getting your flag in-game, and having such great growth, I see some passes in your future.

  4. The war started on August 11th 2008.

The Ordinance of Order was cancelled on July 4th 2008.

That's not a couple of months.

Also the New Polar Order was expelled from One Vision on June 22nd 2008, and that's right around the time we lost most of our treaties.

    That is not weeks.

tl;dr We had a month and a half at best to prepare.

Yeah sorry, my time line wasn't correct. But considering having a general preparedness for war + having a month and a half of high alert should have been plenty of time to build war chests. But your actual war chests didn't reflect that time, it seemed they more closely reflected general preparedness (lower than average at that) / nation building type war chests.

Some may pretend that this war that Polar had is equivalent to all of the other curb stomps where treaty cancellations and war declarations are less than 24 hours apart, but it's wasn't. You had enough time to build an adequate defense, and money for rebuilding as well.

  5. I'm sorry King Penchuk, your analysis is simply false.

Polaris rebuilding efforts post war has been nothing short of amazing, but your performance during the war was actually very horrible.

I was in GRE at the time, and I saw all of the battle reports, and all of the war chests and it was frankly embarrassing that you were so poorly prepared considering the circumstances.

The circumstances: OoO had been canceled for a couple of months, weeks before that you had a series of treaties being canceled from major alliances, while it may have been your view that war was not certain and that you could have effectively stepped up diplomatic efforts to change your circumstances, but the possibility of war was absolutely certain.

I know that GRE was on high alert for a while, we were not building up our infra at all and we were geared up for war. And getting accounts from my current alliance mates, MK took a similar stance, I confirmed this by looking over old threads. And their performance during the war shows the fruits of that preparation.

I'm simply amazing that Polaris didn't do the same. Yes perhaps you can point to a few incidents of members like yourself holding people off and having an adequate war chest, however taking a objective macro-statistical view of your performance you were atrociously prepared and your preformance reflected that. Bill lock was quite common, and the only nations that were able to stay in the top ranks were the very few (like 30 or so) that were able to escape into peace mode, any one in your top ranks that was not in peace mode (which was quite a lot, something like 120-150) was absolutely destroyed and did little damage in return. Because across the board your war chests were pathetic.

Now having talked to people like Random, I understand why this was the case, you had many leadership issues, things were rather destable in your ranks and you were dealing with a lot of things at once. But, I'm still very surprised that you didn't do the logical thing and mass PM your membership base, and go on high alert (i.e. build warchests, don't build infra, get military wonders [not compromising your war chest in the process]).

You had a lot of time to prepare (okay not that much, but still quite a while), but it seems that you failed to use that time effectively. And like I stated I understand why this was the case, but don't pretend like the war's outcome was any different than it was, and that you "did all that you could".

Bear in mind that with all that I've said above, I've gained a lot of respect for NpO and the resilience / success / dedication that they have shown through their rebuilding process made even more amazing by the fact that they were under very harsh terms.

  6. Anarchy is the absence of government, eliminating the current power structure is not eliminating all government it is simply elimintating the current power structure.

You can do better than this, I have faith.

Yes anarchy is the absence of government, not the absence of power however.

There is no world government presiding over CN, the currently power structure is emergent of alliances' voluntary activities between one another. And because it's emergent it's not based on "higher ideals" even if that's what those with power say.

It's based on success (success is a broad term and includes other things like "fun", if a community is stagnant and boring an alliance is likely going to fail regardless of how well it's leaders position it), models which generate success endure and preserve while models that fail are weeded out. And indeed the models which generate success change over time as the game progresses.

Believe me that if vox is to "win" and "take down the current power structure", it will be long after it has already failed and collapsed internally. Perhaps if the world was structured in a way where a more fast-paced competitive aggressive style of play generated success then we'd see more rapid change on a day-to-day basis.

Indeed I would say that your fight is one of futility Vox, but hey I'm sure you still have fun, otherwise you wouldn't still be around.

  7. This is a dark day for the Kingdom. Everybody join us in mourning. After the recent resignations of the prominent and beloved MKers enragedlobster and raken a flood of resignations just cascaded and it looks like we may not be able to carry on much longer.

  9. You are at best speculating on what would happen. You claim that when Kevin laid out the current structure for war and the game in general it might have no been intended to evolve to this point (which I mind you it has a lot more to do with RPing than with actual mechanics). What makes you so sure that any changes in the direction you're trying to point will have your desired effect, you can't predict people's reaction, certainly not all people's, unless it's so restrictive that people don't really have much of a free choice on how to play the game (from a purely mechanical point of view) and that would hurt the game more than help it.

The speculation is not baseless at all though. Political structure is emergent of what approach produces success / survivability. Currently aligning everyone and beating down alliances once in a while supports said objective.

However, if my changes were implemented beat downs would be far less conducive to success, and lopsidedness (which is the formula for beat downs) for the opposition (harder to stagger, defender able to deal more damage), and lower your relative position to the alliances who did not participate in said beat down (so the penalty is two fold). This also encourage competition among the strong alliances for the in-game bonuses I mentioned (thus waging war against smaller opponents is counter-productive to your position relative to the coveted in-game bonuses, rather going after other large alliances (through a variety of methods which would closer resemble the fun cold wars that we had in the past) would be incentive for success.

Obviously you can't predict the specific events that will take place, or how the MDP web is going re-shape. But such incentives lead to the more active and fun game play of the past.

This makes sense in the context of sports, if diving (pretending to be fouled) in soccer (or football as most of the world calls it), were more heavily penalized than people would dive less. Just as if beat downs were more heavily penalized, they're would be less of those. Those who do not conform to the model which grants more bonuses gets left behind those who do follow the model (just like a player would get too many yellow cards to play).

You create a model of success that conforms with fun desirable game play, than fun desirable game play happens. The current problem is that fun desirable game play is at odds with a successful model of playing (thus those who do try to have fun in this manner get stomped <.<).

I know that I'm talking abstractly, and it sounds like it's really off topic, but it's not. This has everything to do with FAN and all the past alliances like it, we all know that if FAN were to play like FAN, they would wind up in the same position. So this is way to bring some fun game play back into the game, and alliances like FAN will form again, Machiavellian play style which is explicit rather than greatly buried behind smiles and hand shakes.

    See what I mean?
