  1. Although you can argue that forced disbandments destroy the community, I think there is something to be said for the "social victory" or "total victory" you are describing from the victor's point of view.

If an alliance fights another alliance repeatedly over the course of its history, these two alliances both become symbols of resistance to one another. Frequently this means that the two alliances actively plot for the next round of fighting, making them military threats to one another, but the success of one alliance will always be contrasted with the fortunes of the other, making them political rivals, as well as potential liabilities to their prestige. It therefore becomes in the interest of the two alliances to destroy one another, since by removing the other, a source of military, political, and "PR" rivalry has been eliminated.

As for the decline of civility on the battlefield, I think on the forums there tend to be lots of flames, but most of my PMs with enemies have been very civil.

  2. A very interesting post.

Indeed we build up many communities stronger than they were before, not by the application of political or economic subjection but by unleashing the potential within each alliance and adding a great degree of Francoist economic planning. We have certainly been the alliance most often concerned with ensuring that our fallen foes, far from imposing their political or economic will on others, become more concerned with joining the Orders in their defence of the right for all communities to decide for themselves, free of the constraints of war.

I think this is an incredibly valid and important point. All the people complaining about how things were better in the days of the League seem to forget the fact that as a small alliance in those days you only really had two options: align with the League and in all likelihood get squashed in a great war, or align with the Initiative and in all likelihood get severely damaged. The creation of a "unipolar" world has, I think, benefited small alliances tremendously. It has given them much more freedom to negotiate with various alliances without immediately getting screened out for being on the wrong side.

  3. That too aside, I fail to see how answering yes to the question "would you like to see my secret bloc?" makes you a spy, it just makes the person who invited him a fool, in particular when the allies of Boris were examined.

I wholeheartedly agree with this post.

  4. All people of the Aethiopian Empire stand teary eyed in front of massive television screens, watching their leader, Gaius Aurelian, getting eaten by Dark Mistress. It is a moving occasion, this, his induction into the New Belly Order. Eventually, the media report that they have received a statement from Gaius Aurelian, from within the Belly, that says he is overjoyed to be part of such a momentous occasion. Strangely, though, no pictures or recordings of his voice are presented to the awe-inspired populous.

  5. Glad to have you with us, Andromeda!

And your respect for VIdiot is well founded, the fighting between our nations has been very fierce. Not to mention that someone put me into Defcon 4 (and I suspect it was VIdiot, because I later found out he had done all his spy operations).

  6. Why hallo there OP. I confused you for someone else the other day... Similar names and whatnot. Interesting point you've brought around, concerning nukes and all. If we changed the name of it to water balloon, we'd have to scale everything else back to make sense. Soldiers would become babies, Tanks would be letter blocks. Cruise missiles would have to be a plastic bag launching device of some sort... Eh, interesting thought.

You must have been thinking of the same person I thought of when I saw the OP name. ;)

And on topic, I don't think there is anything wrong with the weight of nukes today.

  7. I would like to point out that during the Wolfpack War we said we would remain out of the war but give Wolfpack financial assistance when peace negotiations had been successfully concluded. And as Director of Finances I personally oversaw the shipping of a, for us, considerable sum of aid to Wolfpack nations. So any claims that we do not stand by our allies are baseless.

That said, good luck to our soldiers on the field!

  8. Now if you don't mind, I have a revolution to lead. :jihad:

    I knew it! :P

And as for your comment about FEAR being the quickest alliance in CN to cancel treaties, I direct you to the Wolfpack-FEAR MDP.

    Very good point, Ephriam.

But now, to return to the celebrations!

  9. Congratulations Umbrella on joining the Citadel, and congrats to the other Citadel members for gaining a fine ally!

I can't help thinking of this one Umbrella member I know who didn't get into Graemlins, but now because of this is practically in Graemlins by proxy. ;)

Hails again to a group of my favorite alliances!
