Ukrainian Diplomacy:

So to reinforce ties with its neighbors, the King has decided to dispatch several diplomats to all of its neighbors - including Moravia, Novgorod, Poland-Lithuania, Hungary, Kingdom of the South Slavs and the Caliphate. The main purpose was to maintain trade ties with those nations.

Specific messages, however, were sent to Novgorod and the Caliphate:

Hail from Ukraine!

We are interested in maintaining close ties with the Caliphate, as your nation also borders the Black Sea. Both of our nations can benefit greatly from an increased trade between our nations - also, keep in mind our military numbers in the hundreds of thousands.

Blessed be our Lord;

We believe it is vital that us, as Slavs and large adherents of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, to come together and stand as an united front against any potential enemy that we may face. We request that we talk to Vasily I in order to forge a stronger tie or even an alliance.

Setting off to a new land

An expedition composed of five large ships and composed of roughly a thousand common men and women plus another thousand sailors and soldiers has just left the docks of Odessa for the unknown West. The crew are supposed to send a status update once they reach Gilbratar, then only our good Lord knows whether if they will achieve success or not.

Progress Of The Expedition:

After several months at sea, the Ukrainian vessels finally made it to an alternate destination. The goal to land in the supposed Western Lands have failed. As Viktor Stukov, captain of the expedition writes in a letter that has just reached the desk of the King of Ukraine:

The original plan to sail West succeeded up until the point we were several hundred miles past Carthage - terrible sea-borne storms shook our ships and unfavorable winds compelled the convoy to change directions - from West to Southwest. Albeit the storm itself had not significantly damaged the vessels, it did prolong the expedition long enough that food became a rarer commodity. In the last month of voyage or so, a plague that made much of our men and women frail and toothless (OOC: Scurvy) spread among those who had not enough to eat. Even some of those who seemed self-satisfied suffered of this strange occurrence. Fatalities were small although significant - twenty-five adult commoners and twenty-one soldiers had perished from sickness.

The death rate could have been higher but after three months of voyage we had finally made it to firm soil. As our vessels docked in the warm, sandy beaches our eyes came across a vast, exquisite wilderness. The coast as well as the near interior was dominated by a vegetation which resembles swamps - but is denser and hotter. Food is plenty - fruits are not too common but animals thrive in here - particularly fish and small reptiles. Our men and women fed on the plentiful meat and those who were afflicted with the plague or starvation were cured a day or two afterward.

As soon as we had docked and had our feast, we cleared some of the vegetation and from the resistant wood we made a makeshift colony to house all of us within a week or so. The residences are as of now highly rudimentary, being possibly able to withstand several storms but no more. Stones and clay seem to be commonplace in the plateaus nearby this forests, our scouts reckon, thus we will set out to construct a permanent town as soon as this dreadful weather settles down.

As far as locals are concerned, we have found none thus far but we do not believe this land to be void of human occupation. We only pray to God that we will allowed to live in peace in here. And obviously, the Ukrainian flag flies high on the beaches of this land. The town that we will build shall be called новий Київ/Novyy̆ Kyïv (New Kiev)and the larger region shall be deemed Ньюфаундленд/Nʹyufaundlend (Newfoundland).

We pledge the Crown to dispatch an additional 10,000 men and women to inhabit Nʹyufaundlend as well as an extra 2,000 troops to go along. Supply each vessel with at least six-month worth of food - albeit the trip ought to take only fifty days in regular conditions, the unpredictable may happen - as it did with us.

God bless,

-Viktor Stukov

Mykola Kravchuk, King of Ukraine, responded by ordering Geographers across Ukraine to add the estimated boundaries of Nʹyufaundlend as part of the Crown and ordered an expedition with the requested numbers to set sail for New Kiev.

OOC: tl;dr I claim part of Northeastern Brazil
