If he refuses, Tibet becomes a ComIntern Protectorate. However, I'm not really ready to leave so here goes. IC: The combined territories commonly known as the region of 'Libya' had long been confederated, warring with eachother over territorial boundaries. Some were fought for control of the oil wells, others for the precious metal and gem mines and others for simple ancient traditional squabbles and rivalries. That is of course, until the United Maghreb Army, commonly called the Maghreb Army. Lead by Berber revolutionary Irat Kalifa, the United Maghreb Army drew support from youth and middle aged inhabitants of Libya who had grown tired of fighting wars perpetrated by the older generations. Channeling this dissent among the bulk of the population, General Kalifa was able to unite members of many of the feuding tribes and create an army capable of defeating the other warring parties based out of Benghazi. Sensing the danger of the United Maghreb Army, the once dissenting parties signed a temporary ceasefire and banned together to create the League of Libyan Armies coloquially called the Old Guard. Shakir Khabbat was selected to lead the Old Guard, which made their base in the Saharan town of Sabha. General Irat Kalifa made an international broadcast earlier today: This is a broadcast to any of the international entities who hear it. I have seen the bloodshed and cultural genocide of Northern Africa and I can stand for it no longer. The Berber culture has long been repressed, but today I, as leader of the United Maghreb Army hereby declare war on the League of Libyan Armies. They have sought to plunder the common man using their ancient political ties that have no relevance today to advance their own agendas and wealth. IC: Classified The United Maghreb Army (UMA) began massing in Benghazi. Kalifa's first target would be the Kufrah Clan in Al Kufrah. Preparations were made to deal with the harsh desert climate as the entire territory of the Kufrah Clan lay in the Sahara Desert. Soldiers wore shimags as was the custom but were now equipped with goggles that could keep their eyes clear even during a sandstorm. Guns also had their actions wrapped in cloth for transportation to deter clogging. Any seams in the IFVs were sealed and tanks ports were covered with glass to see out of but still keep out the sand. Makeshift 'overdrive' air conditioners were put on as many vehicles as possible to keep the interiors cool. At around midnight the first of the convoys set out from Maghreb-friendly regions into the Al Kufrah and the Sahara. This would herald the first battle of the Maghreb War. IC: Al Jawf, Al Kufrah An early morning strike by the UMA hit the Kufrah capital of Al Jawf. Rocket artillery bombarded the outskirts as jets performed airstrikes on important Kufrah strongholds. Just after sunrise UMA soldiers, tanks and IFV's moved into the city. Street fighting continued throughout the day. The battle would not take long, as UMA forces were equipped with far superior supplies and numbers, allowing them to capture the capital with relatively low casualties considering. Policing forces marched in dress uniform through the streets. At the end of the parade route stood a podium at the center of the city square. Behind it was General Kalifa. "Yesterday, Maghreb forces seiged the capital of the second strongest rival to the unification cause, the Al Kufrah Clan. The world was shown a display of our might as we crushed this would-be challenger, proving that a united army of all clans and tribes is stronger than those in disharmony. The same will be true of a united nation, one which we hope to acheive. Now is not the time for me to dramatize the situation, stir your hearts to a cause. You already believe in it, as such now is the time for practicality. Our enemy is not one to roll over. They are our countrymen, our kin and we will not seek to harm them anymore than possible, save for those who orchestrated the genocide of their own children and the destruction of our native soil. Breathe freely today, my friends. Tomorrow, we head into the fog of war and thus the lion's den. Remain steadfast, Allah will guide us in our quest." Classified After the parade, troops immediately began preparing for another trip through the desert, albeit a longer one. They had their objective and they were to head into the belly of the beast. Cody Seb Posted May 15, 2009 Author Report Share Posted May 15, 2009 The opposition the Sahara provided, while not lethal, did slow down UMA forces. It took several days for them to set up position, but they had made it. In what they called a 'Baghdad Rush,' the Maghreb Forces had made a beeline straight for the Libyan capital, Sabha. Shelling began early this morning as infantry waited for the eventual assault, the time of which can only be speculated upon. Air strikes also began, as bombers let loose on industrial sectors of the city, escorted by fighters, and helicopters patrolled the outskirts of the city, ending the lives of any Old Guard soldiers. At this time, there have been no reported kills of UMA personnel, while several Old Guard tanks were disabled as well as an unknown amount of Old Guard soldiers. However, after the war we would be grateful for humanitarian aid, as many of the towns and villages of Libya are isolated in the desert and hard to reach. Once again, thank you. /End. Today UMA troops marched in after a three day long artillery and aerial bombardment of the Old Guard capital Sabha. Soldiers entered to find much of the city destroyed. However, most of the civilian population had evacuated prior to the UMA's arrival, meaning collateral damage was rather low. The battle wasn't over, the UMA had to fight its way through the streets to reach their eventual goal, Shakir Khabbat, leader of the League of Libyan Armies. Tanks and APC's would eventually surround the central government building and troops would assault the interior. Fighting within was reportedly sparse but fierce. However, Khabbat was indeed found and taken hostage. Later that day, he was forced to surrender on behalf of the entire League of Libyan Armies. General Kalifa had this to say: "It is on this day that the League of Libyan Armies has formally surrendered to the United Maghreb Army. In the coming days a new, free government will be put in place to govern a long confederated and war-stricken land. We have procured the technology and it is advancing rapidly. Soon the needs of Libyan Arabs and Berbers alike will be met on all fornts, economic, healthcare, social, and military. It is on this day I proclaim this new nation to be called The Maghreb, meaning 'the West' or 'the land of the setting sun' in Arabic. Just remember, always look East in penatance and humility.
