somwhere along the border between Nordheim and Sverige

The border between Nordheim and Sverige had been closed since centuries. Between the manned border on the Sverige side and the at this time unmanned border at the Nordheim side lies an empty, scorched land. It is dotted with pieces of barbed wire, gates that serve no use because they end suddenly, unexploded devices and mines, and there is no life.

It has been like this since people from Nordheim tried to cross the border, to flee the brutality of the different civil wars, the unrest, the brutality, the repressing, or to bring those things into Sverige.

On the Sverige side of the border there is a 10 meter high metal wall, with manned towers and guns, with searchlights and barbed wire all over the wall. There are only a few points in the border that can be opened up up if needed. But they have been closed for years now.

Since a few years the Nordheim side of the border has been completely abandoned, safe for the few times it was used a a strategic holdout by one of the sides in the ongoing civil war. Civilians have tried numerous times to flee the war by trying to reach Sverige. But once they survived the barren land between the borders they were ignored by the Sverige border guards. Trying to climb the wall wasn't really easy with out the necessary tools.

Since a few days Sveriges Air force had increased air patrols along the Nordheim border on the Scandinavian peninsula. They were de facto enforcing a No Fly zone across the whole border. The patrols were 24/7 executed by 125 Saab JAS 39NG-A Gripen from the 2nd Wing, flying from Gävle Airport. They were supported by a host of AWAC and reconnaissance aircrafts who were constantly scanning the entire area for anything flying. If they spotted something the protocol stated it would be hailed and warned, either it would return to Nordheim and land there, or it would be forced to land at Gävle Airport and everyone inside arrested for trespassing.

At the same time the complete Sverige Baltic Naval escadrille, consisting of 8 Visby Class Corvettes had moved into 12 miles range of the Nordheim coast. Dropping sonar buoys every kilometer they were putting up a net around Nordheim so tight that no fish could swim a meter without the Sverige Navy knowing about this.

At the northern borders with Norway, a few trucks were passing the border. Moving equipment, army engineers and and a few liaison officers. They were following the Norway border with Nordheim. The same happened in Vaasa where trucks rolled off a transporter ship, waiting till they could move in the direction of the Nordheim border in Finland. The liaison officers had been giving orders by their HQ to help the Norwegian and Finnish governments with constructing border walls along the Nordheim border. Financial backing from the Sverig government, if needed, was also included into this aid.

'Or what? Will the Nords point water pistols at us and make PANG noises? I'm sick of allways patrolling the same damn area, nothing is happening here. There is nothing here but snow, ugly trees and big rocks.'

'I hope your right buddy, I rather not try out the famous Nordheim hospitably....'

'Tango Foxtrot, please clear the channel from your chattering!'

'O yeah right, like were in some damn monastery celebrating celibacy!'

'Hey Dude!' It was raining a little bit outside, but William did not like water at all. 'Can you open the gate for me, I got a delivery for the Commanders birthday party' The guard, looking really bored suddenly woke up when he saw William pulling a cart full of all kinds of liquor, booze, alcoholics and beers. 'He buddy, can you gimme one of those whisky bottles? I'm like getting really really cold here, I'll help you with the pulling the car okay?' William wasn't keen on wasting any booze on random guards, but hey, the guy offered to help, and indeed it was cold out here in the rain. 'Okay buddy' William threw a bottle of cheap whisky into the mans eagerly waiting hands. 'Now help me with this damn car, we need to get this to the mess before all the boxes get wet'

The party was just getting started when the alarm sounded. Booze was not yet distributed so that everybody reacted in a timely fashion. People rushed to their posts, pilots to their planes. Nobody thought that this was a drill, every knew it, this was the real thing.

'Commander Tüngren speaking.' 'This is General Johan Hederstedt speaking, you have orders to move your entire unit too Jönköping and Stockholm airport, we are at war with half Europe. We can't afford to guard Nordheim at the moment. Get everything in the air and do it fast! You will receive new orders at Stockholm Airport.'

The commander looked shocked for a few seconds before his military instincts jumped into action. He ran towards the air control tower, thinking about his wife and children....................

'How did you know it was me?'

'Its the only time we hear a speaking pig on the radio............'

'Yeah, yeah wait till I have to do the roster of your team, its gonna be 7 o'clock flights all week long!'

'Your not authorized to do any rosters, so shut up, again!'

'Hehehe, I have been promoted.'

'Which dick head thought promoting you was a good move?!'

'Shut up Tobias, he'd have us do another week of morning shifts if you don't shut it!'

'Meh, I don't care, I can take the morning shifts for all I care, better then not drinking booze, and not !@#$@#$ girls back at the not fun base........'

'I care, lets focus on this mission for once.'

'Why? Its gonna be boring trees, ugly rocks and snow all day long, again and again.'

'You missed the briefing again did you?. Its been said that the civil war in Nordheim is over, atleast they said to pay attention this time.'

'Well, I hope we get to shoot things this time!'

'Pfffff, young guns, you wouldn't be able to hit a plane if it was flying one meter in front of you!

'Hear hear! Did you have a nice nap grandpa?'

'The only one sleeping on the mission is you Tobias, and contrary to popular belief, I do have a name.'

'Yeah well, I keep forgetting it.'

'Jean-Michel.'

'Hihihi, that name cracks me up every time I hear it!.'
