New airlines and new airport to expand the horizons of Pacifican economy

USSURIYSK, PACIFICA -- In a joint statement by the Urban and Housing and Transportation ministries, the plans for a new airport in Ussuriysk were unveiled. The Mikhail Zakharov Memorial International Airport will serve as the primary airport for the use of the country, and shall be host to the recently formed national airlines, Origin Pacific. The new airport is expected to open in 2013

, if on schedule and on budget. The National Airport Act of 2006 was passed by the National Assembly on 6 Feb 2007 but little effort was taken initially on the construction of the facilities. Since the independence of the country, the project has now taken new light.

"We hope to have this be the connection from Pacific to the rest of the world," said Transportation Minister Gennady Toshev. The Monetary Funding Ministry, the primary sponsor of this venture, is looking to gather foreign investment in the hope that an investment in the airport from a foreign nation will allow for the establishment of relations and allow for foreign businesses to come in and provide jobs and expand the economy. "It is my sincere hope that foreign nations will invest in this airport, and such an investment would pay off - terminal use, shops, expansion of the tourist industry, foreign travel agencies - all a benefactor to the investor if they were to sign on as a sponsor to this project," said Monetary Funding Deputy Minister Ivan Meledonskev, "to sponsor the Zaharkov Airport is to sponsor the growth of our nation."

Also at the center of this is the formation of Origin Pacific Airways. This company, under the direction of the Commercial Administration Ministry, is branded as the national airline and is said to provide the "utmost expertise in flying and customer service". With the recent expansion of the Pacifican economy through technology production for other nations, the Commercial Administration Ministry stated that "the time is right to establish a service that will provide ever faster delivery of Pacifican products to their destination, and it is certainly the time for such a service to be formed in this country to benefit our recent economic investments."

However, reflecting the Monetary Funding Ministry's approach to Zakharov Memorial, the Commercial Administration Ministry also asks for foreign support: "providing in-flight services, such as drinks, food, comfort services, from one's nation should allow for that nation to see an increase in tourism - as the Pacifican populace likely wants to see the rest of the world for themselves." The small two-runway airport is budgeted to cost the state ₱129 million.

Infrastructure grows in Pacifica

USSURIYSK, PACIFICA -- The Ministry for Urban and Housing Development recently released a plan for the development of infrastructure and new buildings in the capital in order to modernize the large city. This is following a recent contract ratified by the National Assembly, brought forth by the Trade Representation Bureau, for massive production of technological equipment for export to Cochin* for an estimated worth of ₱15 million*.

This new contract only builds upon the already existing contracts the Pacifican Republic has fulfilled in exporting technological equipment to other nations. "Once we have sufficient infrastructural development in the country, we can start developing technology domestically and be able to manufacture such things outside the country for a lower price," said Trade Representation Bureau Valery Nazarov, "it is essential we move the Democratic Republic of the Pacific out of a resented third-world status."

Pacificans celebrate Flag Day

Today marks 33 years since the adoption of the flag of the Pacifican Democratic Republic. Widely hailed as a holiday to celebrate patriotic feelings and ambitions for a new year within the nation. Traditionally, the President addresses the National Assembly giving a summarization of the previous year and pledge goals for the new year. Small celebratory events are organized in Ussuriysk, fireworks, park events; it is the second-biggest patriotic holiday behind Sovereignty Day, which is 20 June.

Adopted 10 Jan, 1977, the Pacifican flag was designed to represent the green of the forests, the blue of the Pacific, and the white of the mountains of the Ring of Fire.

President Matveyev, the tenth person to hold such an office, addressed the National Assembly 18:00 local time. A prominent part to the speech was Pacifica's recent independence. "We must assert ourselves as an independent, organized, and well developing nation. Our ambitions cannot be too great, whereas we will not accomplish them," Matveyev said, "cooperation within the region is crucial to our development and are placement on the world stage". The president continued to pledge the Republic to Asian, pan-Pacifican, and regional unification, as well as a defensive foreign policy. "Our diplomacy is key to developing economically. The two are intertwined," Matveyev continued to open Pacifica's border to diplomats and foreign investors.

Opposition parties were quick to respond:

The Democratic Party said that the domestic policy proved to be too heavy on intervention of foreign powers to assist Pacifica. This was reflected by Communist Party and the United Pacifican Left. The Democrats also argued for a more interventionist foreign policy, whereas the current administration aren't taking enough steps to secure Pacifica's interests.

The United Pacifican Left stated that Matveyev's foreign policy was "making commitments to foreign power in which the country cannot fulfill at this time". The Leftists also stated that Matveyev hasn't done enough to tackle domestic policy, which they hope to make a strong point in this year's presidential elections.

The Communist Party released a statement harshly criticizing Matveyev's policies, which has been the case throughout his and the previous Democratic administrations. Matveyev's foreign policy was "weak", and his domestic policy "corrupt and capitalistic". The Communists pledge that for this presidential election, they'll return Pacifica to its former glory and a worker's paradise.
