NADC: lesson learned?
Recently, NADC and TFD reinstate official diplomatic ties in the form of a PIAT. This marks the renewal of a long standing relationship that saw some difficult times in the thick of the Karma War.
If you will recall, NADC failed to live up to its mutual defense obligations during the Karma War. NADC opted out of the optional aggression clause of their MDoAP with TFD and instead attacked RAD, in defense of Zenith (their ODP partners). I happen to think that NADC acted in a fairly self-serving manner. Zenith is a fine and brave group of people that deserved defending. However, the Zenith treaty was fairly new and still budding, unlike the relationship with TFD. TFD was our closest ally during my time at NADC. However, NADC certainly saw the opportunity to attack a smaller, safer target - RAD. Thus, they fought on the side of their allies, without taking exorbitant damages from the combined forces of WAPA and FOK, which were attacking TFD.
This forced TFD to re-evaluate their relationship with NADC and how reasonable it was to have a military partnership with them. As a result, TFD canceled their treaty.
I was saddened to see the cancellation since I was a part of the team that worked on the optional aggression upgrade. However, TFD's reasons were very legitimate.
As TFD and NADC are renewing ties, I wonder if anything has changed at NADC. In the future, will NADC protect its friends, or will it immediately begin doing the math and decide what the damage would be first?
While at NADC, I was often frustrated by the cultural factors of that alliance. In recent months many of the more agressive leaders have exited the alliance in exasperation. The entire culture of NADC is not comfortable with the partisan game of politics and diplomacy. They, instead, prefer socialization and neutrality. So, when it comes time to make a stand, things get difficult for NADC. Such an alliance is fine and fun to be a part of, but it may not make the best military partnership.
I hope the relationship between TFD and NADC thrives. However, it may now have its limitations.
