ROSSINGOL -- Kensington Mews Shipbuilding has announced that it will be entering the realm of personnel arms. CEO Lady Maria Kensington has filed the necessary paperwork for a new corporation, Annan Enterprises to serve as the Parent organization of both Kensington Mews Shipbuilding, and the still to be formed Annan Arms.

"J Andres is in a time of need when it comes to weaponry, and this nation has always been able to count on us in the forms of naval vessels. Now we shall provide J Andres with locally made, superior weaponry."

The Annan Arms facility has not been appropriated yet, but Annan Enterprises has announced that it is scouting the area around Rossingol for an existing structure that can meet their needs quickly.

In other news, Princess Katherine has announced that the elections shall take place on December 17, 2052. (RL dates: August 27-30)

Hahn says "Anchor will drag J Andres to the Ocean Floor"
ROSSINGOL -- Presidential Candidate William Hahn gave a rousing speech to supporters in the Rossingol Area, outside of the new location of Annan Arms. Hahn is the candidate from the Nationalist Party. Analysts predict strong results for Hahn in the region. Annan Enterprises employs over 20,000 citizens in the area between construction projects and the two government contractors of Kensington Mews Shipbuilding and Annan Arms. The economy of the region is heavily dependent on the defense industry which Hahn has pledged immense support for. Hahn also worked at Kensington Mews Shipbuilding (at the time, located in the South) as a welder for many years. An excerpt of his speech to supporters, mostly employees of Annan Enterprises is included below:

"You know, working in the defense industry can be one of the most satisfying careers," Hahn began, taking a quick breath while surveying the crowd. "I distinctly remember when the first submarine helped to build was launched into the Atlantic. It was the Princess Stephanie and it was the first submarine constructed at this facility in over ten years."

"The ship was large, and the team who built it was even larger. The dry docks were slowly flooded, and the ship slowly rose on the water. It was incredible. This was a vessel, made entirely by man, that could hold back the water. Somewhere on that ship were the welds that I had made, and all of these small little welds, made by countless workers over a three year period, successfully worked together to keep the ship together."

"This is the same problem we are faced with today. J Andres is a ship that has sunk four times before--and J Andres isn't a submarine, it's not meant to sink," Hahn paused to allow the laughter to subside.

"We are all the welders of this Maritime Republic and in just a short time, we will be launching our fifth vessel to sea. Now, Rossingol, this is the question I ask you: When we launch our ship, do we want to attach an Anchor to it to drag it to the bottom of the ocean as soon as it is launched?"

The crowd yelled out a resounding, "NO!" at the reference to the Anchor Party candidate, Evan McDowell.

"My opponent, Mr. McDowell, did not work in Defense like me and you. He is not reminded of the very real threat that faces us every day. No, instead, my opponent has worked, and still works, in the Insurance industry. He goes to work every day and HOPES that nothing bad will happen. His success is measured in the hope that no large losses effect his clients. Is this the kind of leadership that we want for our nation?"

There was another resounding, "NO," throughout the crowd.

"I understand that Kensington Mews isn't ready to start churning out vessels for us, but I do understand that the first shipments of weapons from Annan Arms will be delivered next week. When those guns are in the hands of our finest men and women, defending our country, do we want our soldier knowing that every step along the way, our workers took pride and their work and made a product that is flaw-free and as perfect as humanly possible?" The crowd began to applaud, "Or...Or, do we want to hand that soldier a gun and tell him 'Hope it works!'"

"That's right Rossingol. We want to be confident in our product, and I am confident in this nation. I am confident in this nation if you select me to your next President, and choose the Nationalist Party to lead the Commune. We will bring strong, central government to this nation, and ensure that J Andres grows its military to protect its freedom."

"The J Andres doesn't need to sink to bottom of the ocean for the fifth time. Thank you Rossingol!"

The Anchor Times has conducted a poll of likely voters.
Evan McDowell - 38% (+10% since last month)
William Hahn - 35% (+11% since last month)
Dimitri Egorov - 20% (-20% since last month)
Margin of Error - 3%

William Hahn has surged following his rousing speech. However, he has not hurt Evan McDowell's share of voters. Dimitri Egorov has lost significant ground now that he no longer has the advantage of being the only candidate with name recognition.

THe UCNA is appalled at the mass slaughter of our furry friends, and has issued a single statement. Albeit late, it issues a statement shortly after the recent speech by Hahn.

"It is the firm belief of the UCNA that you don't need an anchor to sink your nation, you already started doing it."

Princess Takes Heat for Spending
ENDOR CUIDAD -- 4.6 billion anchors is a lot of money, and Princess Katherine is taking the heat for it. Princess Katherine's building projects have been hailed by many as "exactly what the nation needs," but many are also furious that the Princess would authorize the spending of 4.6 billion anchors before the elections even commenced. The Communist Party is making it no secret that they plan to abolish the monarchy if they can garnish the votes, and Presidential Candidate Dimitri Egorov has been calling for Princess Katherine to immediately resign her powers as the Transitional Head of Government. Egorov's campaign has the unlikely support of the National Liberation Party. A spokesperson from the NLP released this statement today, "Although we still strive for freedom from the Failed Republic of J Andres, we support Mr. Egorov because we believe he will free the west from the tyranny of the east. We were not caught up in the Fourth Maritime Republic--of which we were glad. We are through with the government in Endor Cuidad and it is time for us to be free." Egorov gave a speech earlier today in the western city of New Haven. Egorov is expected to perform strongly in western Connecticut and Massachusetts; however, the areas are more sparsely populated than the cultural centers of Endor Cuidad or Boston.

****

The former Premier of the Commune stepped up the podium. Behind him was a large red curtain, in front of him, a sea of supporters, clearly excited about the political process. Many of them were raising and pumping their fists in the air.

"New Haven," he began, "I am Dimitri Egorov, and I am here to be this nation's savior." He readjusted his suit jacket as crowd gave him some applause. "As I traveled the region today, I have heard numerous stories. Stories that I have listened to, and have taken a place in my heart."

"There was a common thread amongst these stories, in that they all took place in the past. Each story took place in the past and told me how then was better than now," he squinted briefly in the sunlight. "You see, my opponents, Mr. Hahn of the Nationalists and Mr. McDowell of the Anchors will tell very similar stories, about how once J Andres was better than it is today. I'm not going to argue that point. When I was child, shortly before the turn of the century, J Andres was at it's peak. That is something I will always remember."

"But today, we are in a different nation, and that is the difference between us and Mr. Hahn and Mr. McDowell. We don't look to the past nostalgically as they do. When we look to the past we see the a government that has failed four times before," the cheering among the crowd was beginning to increase, but Egorov kept talking. "I will not say any bad words about Josef Mercton. Especially not today, the day that marks J Andres' 71st anniversary. No, Josef Mercton was a brilliant and effective leader. The people of this nation gladly let him lead as President General, and everyone loved him as their King. Josef Mercton was true patriot of this nation."

"However, Josef and his lovely wife Ambrielle had two children, who we know as Princess Stephanie and Prince Richard. One of which is our current Queen, and the other is a former President. I cannot give either of them the same praise that I give their father. Both of these Merctons attempted to revive this nation, and both of them failed. And now we have Stephanie's own children trying once again. I say enough!" he exclaimed, loudly, letting the sound resonate off the distant buildings.

"Josef Mercton earned his statue in Old Quarry Hill. He earned every star and stripe on his uniform. He earned the countless buildings and schoolhouses that have been named after him. The same goes for his good friend Ben Richards, and our own hero Adrik Annan. Yet, I say enough. The Monarchy ends here. No more entitlement for the children of the great. A last name does not make an individual worthy of leadership. Under Mercton leadership this country has fallen more times than it has gotten back up."

"Oh," Egorov chuckled slightly, "And need I remind you of their expenses? Last month Princess Katherine authorized the spending of 4.6 billion anchors. 4.6 BILLION. Our government isn't even formed yet! We aren't collecting taxes, yet some girl who thinks she is special because her grandfather is Josef Mercton gets to decide how to spend 4.6 billion anchors when our treasury vaults are penniless!" Thunderous applause began to echo in the streets of New Haven.

"December 17 is the day that you can tell Katherine that she will never see the throne. That Stephanie will be last Queen of J Andres, and that the west will get to vote whether or not they want to remain a part of the decaying republic."

Someone in the crowd shouted out, "What about Annan?"

"Ah yes," Egorov continued, "The family of Annan. Another "royal" family, the heirs of Adrik Annan. Mr. Annan was our Communist hero, was he not?" he asked the crowd who responded with a resounding, "YES!"

"The honorable 'Duke of Rossingol' would be turning over in his grave if he ever saw the state of J Andres today," Egorov mocked. "Branches of his own family have deserted the Communist cause to fly the flag of the Nationalists. It is only a matter of time before the weapons made by Annan Arms begin to permeate our streets and kill our children. Can you imagine Adrik Annan, the diplomatic man that he was ever approve of a weapons manufacturer ever bearing his name?"

"On December 17, tell Endor Cuidad that the west has a voice. And you want to restore the Maritime REPUBLIC of J Andres to power. The Republic. For the people, by the people, sans Monarchy."

The Anchor Times has conducted a poll of likely voters.
William Hahn - 33% (-2% since last week)
Evan McDowell - 31% (-7% since last week)
Dimitri Egorov - 32% (+12% since last week)
Margin of Error - 4%

Dimitri Egorov has expectedly surged following his speech in New Haven. Evan McDowell has a speech planned for the City of Providence early next month. McDowell's speech will wrap up the pre-election season and than the nation will begin to see the three candidates together in the debates.

PROVIDENCE

The city of Providence was a shadow of its former self. Eighteen years earlier, in 2033 the city was the unfortunate destination for a nuclear warhead from a rogue Monacan submarine. Before the attack, Providence was second only to Endor Cuidad in its size and population, but the attack nearly leveled the city, and most of its inhabitants as well.

Evan McDowell had given numerous speeches throughout the campaign, but this would be the last before the final debates and the election. He remembered that day clearly. Not only was it a devastating day for the country, but it was the beginning of many big days at the office as the insurance claims began to come through.

He had taken a severe beating in the recent polls; Richard Hahn's portrayal of the Anchor Party as dragging the nation to the bottom of the sea was beginning to catch on. When his car finally arrived at its destination, he examined his surroundings. The damaged buildings, warped and twisted steel--he had been here before, but the seeing the imagery in person again rekindled the same feelings of grief. In the distance the cranes were dancing to their own slow rhythm as they had begun the reconstruction of teh city ordered by Princess Katherine. The camera flashes brought him back to the present, and he walked swiftly to the podium.

"Ladies and Gentlemen of Providence, of J Andres," he began, in a slow warm voice. "I come to you today to share a vision that I have. A vision that I have thought about for a long time. I will not speak to you about a vision for a nation that sprawls all of North America. Nor will I speak to you about a vision for a nation that commands the affairs of the world. No, both of these things could happen, but this is my vision, and there is only so far I can see."

"Instead, I have a vision of a small but stable nation that is thriving. It is 2052 yet our children don't even remember a time when we had the internet here. How can our nation be so backwards?"

"I'll tell you why," McDowell paused for a moment, "The Anchor Party hasn't been in office since Ben Richards. God Bless that man, probably the only man of that generation who has been so unfortunate to survive and see the country that he worked so hard to build, be run into the ground, time and time again. And who was it, who ran the country into the ground? The Nationalists and the Communists! They've controlled this country for over half a century! It was the Communists who were responsible the land cessions caused our first fall, and the Nationalists have had their hand in every rise and fall since then." He slowed down only to catch his breath, and then with just as much emotion, he continued, "Yet, it is they who say that our 'anchor is causing this ship to sink.' Mr. Hahn, I think you are gravely mistaken."

"Alas, I am not here to defame the other parties. I'm here to chare my vision, and my plan. Behind me you can see cranes constructing the new Biltmore Hotel. Right here, in the ashes of what was once J Andres' capital of business, we are building again. And that's what I am promising: Reconstruction, growth, and Prosperity. Let us open the doors to international commerce and return Providence, and this country, to the Prosperous land it once was!"

McDowell's Fiery Defense
PROVIDENCE -- The voters of J Andres have been anticipating the speech of the Anchor Party candidate, Evan McDowell for weeks. McDowell has been slammed, and slammed hard by his opponents and he has even fallen to second place recently. However, today McDowell gave his retort for the mud that has been slung, and he threw some of his own as well.

McDowell reminded the nation that the Anchor party has not held the Presidency in over 50 years, the same 50 year period that has been disastrous for J Andres. Some voters have complained that they wanted to hear more about his proposals, specifically his plans for the Monarchy, but it looks like this will give him the edge he needs heading into the upcoming debates.

The Anchor Times has conducted a poll of likely voters.
Evan McDowell (A) - 37% (+6% over two weeks)
Dimitri Egorov (C) - 34% (+2% over two weeks)
William Hahn (N) - 28% (-5% over two weeks)
Margin of Error - 1%

BOSTON

The old man turned off the television. Politics had always made him upset, but J Andres politics upset him most of all. As he dragged his feet over to his wardrobe, he remembered a different moment in J Andres history....

...The year was 2032 and television screens across J Andres flickered on as a greatly downtrodden Ben Richards made his war, reluctantly, to the podium. Seemingly on the verge of tears, Richards announced the results had come in. In a breaking voice, he announced that the people in the Maritime Colony, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine had chosen to join the Empire of Pravus Inguro, either as a "territory or protectorate." In turn, the Maritime regions of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland had voted to join the Federation of Disparu. As for the Territory of Louisiana, it had voted to join the Imperial States. In turn, the Governorships of California and Nevada had voted to become a protectorate of the Holy American Empire. Finally, the regions of British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan voted to form their own country. With that, Richards wished the inhabitants good luck in whatever they wanted to do, and acknowledged that they were in "good hands, better than ours." He bode them farewell, and then moved off the podium. And with that, the Third Maritime Republic of J Andres was no more, and the story ends...

...Ends for everyone, unless your name was Ben Richards.

The embarrassment that Richards had felt that day had never left him. He had thought that writing his memoir might help with accepting his failure, and although "Third Time isn't Always the Charm" went on to be a bestseller, Richards never felt any better about it. When the Queen Stephanie looked to reform the nation later in the same year he thought that if she succeeded, his failure would not be remembered by the history books.

He was wrong. The Queen's Reformation was a failure, and 20 years after that sad day in front of the podium, history students still studied the failures of the Government that Ben Richards had overseen. Of course, it wasn't entirely my fault, he thought to himself, remembering the Richard Mercton was the President, and Ben was only the Premier of the Commune. If only the coalition government stuck together, he thought again. Replaying the countless moves and decisions that he had made over his very impressive political career.

Ben Richards had the unfortunate fate to have lived through every historical moment on the Roller Coaster of J Andres History. Much like a roller coaster, although there is a good deal of climbing at the beginning, it is then followed by numerous step drops. Richards was once only a colonel, who became successful in battle after the Orlando Offensives. The Anchor Party eventually grew around his ideas and he became the third President in 1988. He served as the President for ten years, and was presented with Bestowed Peerage by King Josef I, and later called back into political service as the Minister of War and Defense under Adrik Annan. Throughout the Third Maritime Republic, he served as the Premier of the J Andres Commune.

And in the numerous years since the collapse of the Fourth Maritime Republic, Ben Richards had become disheartened by J Andres Politics, but he had accepted that the nation was no more than a flag among a box of keepsakes he kept in his closet.

On this mild November morning, Ben Richards was watching the televised debate before he had abruptly decided to turn the television off. Richards watched the candidates debating and determined it was time for him to make a public appearance. He had already alerted one of his nurses, much to their displeasure, but the word would travel quickly and soon there would be a crowd outside the Richards Residence in Boston.

When he opened the doors to his home to step out to the podium, he had a flashback to that day in 2032, where everything was so similar. He approached the podium, this time without tears. "Good Morning," he said. The crowd responded to him, but he couldn't quite comprehend the low mumble of the crowd--his hearing aid was inside the house. "Boston, it's been a long time," he said again, taking frequent breaths. "I have come out...here today...to speak to...you about the...upcoming...elections," he looked in the direction of the television cameras. He could imagine the news hosts picking his announcement to pieces due to his difficulty speaking.

"I'm sorry," he said, "I just turned 95 last month." He gave a warm gentle smile that had long been his trademark, "I'm getting a little old for this." He turned to his left and looked at his nurse. She understood immediately and brought over an oxygen tank and quickly ran the tubes up to his nose. "That's a little better," he smiled again, "J Andres, I am here to offer my endorsement to one of the Presidential Candidates."

The reporters in the crowd got excited. Clearly any speech from Ben Richards would have been a major news story, but Ben Richards speaking about active politics was quite another thing.

"I have watched the debates, and after seeing the candidates in action, I have made a decision. William Hahn, although you call yourself a Nationalist, you are not a nationalist in the same vein of the great Josef Mercton. Rather, you most resemble his son, Richard Mercton. Prince--sorry, Earl Richard has always been a disgrace to the good name of his father and you are continuing to disgrace the party of his father in the name of your imperial proclamations. Your ambition will destroy this nation, of that I can assure you.

"Dimitri Egorov, you honor the traditions of your Communist predecessors, yet your plan for governance is too weak to survive the harsh realities of the world. If you allow the west to succeed this year, than next year it will be a different region. There will always be minorities in J Andres, but we pull our strength from standing united and looking past our ideological differences."

"Evan McDowell, you represent an Anchor Party different than the one that I represented back in 1988. Although you depend on the private sector to turn this nation around, it can't do it alone. You also run a perilous risk of become the hostage of the same businesses that you support today."

Ben Richards had sufficiently spoken about the weaknesses of each candidate. The press corps were likely expecting Ben Richards to declare his own candidacy right then. "And, this is why," the cameras were all raised, in anticipation of catching the moment and reaction to the old man's speech. "This is why, I give my full endorsement to you, Mr. Evan McDowell. I do not support you simply because you wave the flag of the party I held so very long ago. I support you because you are the best suited to succeed. I can offer you no guarantee that you will succeed, and not end up destroying this nation, and the hearts of these people for the fifth, and hopefully final time, but I do believe you have the ability to prevail against these challenges."

Richards smiled once again, "And when you do win these upcoming elections, the answer is no. I will not travel to Endor Cuidad and advise you. I was retired, and I'm about to return to being retired." With a simple wave to the crowd, he turned around and returned inside, his nurses following him in.

BEN RICHARDS ENDORSES EVAN MCDOWELL

BOSTON -- The aging legend and Duke of Boston, Ben Richards, has made a rare public appearance to announce his support for Anchor Party candidate, Evan McDowell in the upcoming elections. Richards had no reservations in his speech, telling both William Hahn and Dimitri Egorov that if they were elected they would be able to add another failure to the J Andres collection. Although Richards has stayed out of the spotlight for an extended period of time, his decision is likely to sway numerous voters.

President Evan McDowell is left with a divided nation to unite.

The Citizens of the west are displeased that their call for independence seems to be ignored.

General Jacob Cross remains in Marscurian Siberia surveying potential military purchases.

J Andres reconstruction is moving quickly, but there is still much to be done.
