  1. Ragnarok...

One of the few direct descendants of \m/, and the most successful.  Formed within days of the disbanding of \m/ in 2007, it grew rapidly early on through mergers and the slow accumulation of of former \m/embers, old GOONS, GPA, and odds and ends from all over.  Electron Sponge and NpO plotted against it almost from the beginning (referring to it as \m/ 2.0...I always thought of it as \m/ without so much lulz and better for it...but that was me), but Ragnarok was just well connected enough with Q to make that a fight Sponge didn't want.  Around March 2008, fresh from beating my head against the wall trying to lead Browncoats, I asked Hoo about joining.  He welcomed me in with open arms, as did everyone there.  I rose quickly through the ranks and eventually became part of the inner circle of leadership.  Ragnarok was sanctioned, was part of the great victory in the War of the Coalition in which \m/ it could be said finally got its revenge.  By fall of 2008, Ragnarok was at its pinnacle of power with Hoo at the helm and a cast of characters in leadership that I would put up against any on Planet Bob.

All was not prefect in the empire, so to speak.  Jealousy and rivalry in the upper ranks led some departures.  Some of our best people decided to strike out on their own and were promised not only protectorates, but members from Ragnarok as well.  This led to a decline in numbers, though Ragnarok still held sanction into 2009.  Hoo started looking for the next big project, the next big war.  As I put it Hoo then, there was only one challenge left--Mt. Everest...NPO.  He liked the idea and had already been talking to others about it.  It was a challenge that would unify us in the year ahead.  The question was how to engineer it.  Unfortunately Hoo spoke to the wrong person about the project, logs were made public, and Ragnarok found itself on the defensive in early 2008.  By the mid month Hoo decided to resign and left behind a Triumvirate of people who on paper should have been able to led the alliance to whatever fate awaited it.

I was one of those people.  Paper does not take into account personalities, and from the start it was not a good mix.  Nevertheless, I carried forward with the defense of Ragnarok in the backrooms of CN--meetings with NPO to buy us time ("plotting against NPO don't be absurd..."),  meeting with Xiph as we tried to organize a coalition beyond SF to prevent us from being crushed.  A funny thing happened along the way.  A mission of save our butts became something more.  That something more eventually evolved into Karma.  I would have liked to have stuck around Ragnarok for that.  I think perhaps I would have kept the alliance from becoming over committed during that war.  But it was not meant to be.  I left Ragnarok for Valhalla in March 2009.  I did so as much to save Ragnarok a civil war, as I did to save Valhalla.  I'm not sure why I thought my sword would make a difference, but it did.  My recruiting post war at Valhalla helped to turn the alliance around along with the hard work of the veterans there who wouldn't let it die.

As for Ragnarok, I kept close tabs on it behind the scenes right up until the Karma War started.  It was a beautiful and terrifying sight to watch her sacrifice herself for the cause.  She was never the same alliance after that, despite the return of Hoo and the efforts made to save her by many individuals over the years.  Her death comes as no surprise, but it is sad just the same.

I wish nothing but the best for her now former members.  Should any of you want to join another Viking-themed alliance, I happen to know one that would welcome you. ;)

Great recap of a Rok history Hal, thank you.  Karma was truly our finest moment and it was an honor to be the tip of the spear in that war, pixels be damned.

With meaningless words and reposting the same thing over and over?

Grow a pair and fight for your beliefs. If you can't back up what you say, you're little more than a child squabbling over what the big kids are doing.

Yeah, I (single nation nation) will declare war on an entire alliance. THAT will prove the rightness of my cause!

    Ummm... yeah...

[OOC]Pretty much, and I'm wondering why anyone in MK would want to be like Slayer99 when he was crusading against NoV. The parallel is clear, obvious, and uncomfortable. But I'm not going to drag OOC stuff into an IC discussion. Ingame, it's a different story.[/OOC]

MK attacked a nation that a previous government of RoK said was not under protection, but that the current government of RoK has accepted into their alliance. RoK's political isolation leaves them with few alternatives for dealing with this situation.

That pretty much sums it up. Bob was the legitimate emperor when the edict was issued. As disgusting as that fact may be, it is a fact.

So keep on kicking that mother-in-crisis butt MK. You truly are warriors to be feared.
