  1. Random attack should be random.

Failure should be dependent on the actual outcome as well as potential thwarting.

Current defcon should be included in random calculations, so a successful defcon switch operation could have (randomly) no effect whatsoever.

I don't agree, the information index says new level randomly chosen.

A successful outcome should always cause SOME change to DEFCON, a failed mission should cause no change.

  2. Perhaps something like...

    If spy mission succesful then:

10% chance it goes to current DEFCON level +1

20% is goes to current DEFCON level +2

30% chance it goes to current DEFCON level +3

40% chance it goes to curent DEFCON level +4

If the new DEFCON value exceeds 5, then it just goes to DEFCON 5

    So;

    - If your enemy is in DEFCON 4, if you suceeded, there would be a 100% chance it goes to DEFCON 5

    - If your enemy is in DEFCON 3 and you succeeded, there would be a 10% chance it goes to DEFCON 4, and 90% it goes to 5

    - If your enemy is in DEFCON 2 and you succeeded, there would be a 10% chance it goes to DEFCON 3, 20% chance it goes to DEFCON 4 and and 70% it goes to 5

    - If your enemy is in DEFCON 1 odds as per above.

  3. Hmm, interesting, okay well I guess some extra clarification then, for each of the 10+ times I have Defcon spied, or been spied in the past fortnight, while in Defcon 1, it has been changed every time to Defcon 4.

Has anyone else had it go from Defcon 1 to anything other than Defcon 4?

  4. That is what I am saying, it is supposed to be random but it doesn't appear to be, more than ten times in the past 10 days I have done this spy op or had it done to me, and every single time, it has changed it to DEFCON 4.

If it is truly random, the odds of doing 10 DEFCON spy attacks and it coming out to DEFCON 4 ten consecutive times is terribly small, something like a 0.00001% chance.

  5. Not sure if this has been brought up previously.

    From the CN Information Index:

Change DEFCON Level (New level randomly chosen) = $150,000 + (5 x enemy nation strength)

The new level chosen, to me, does not seem randomly chosen, in my current wars, I have either done this spy attack or had it done to me at least 10 times, and every time that it succeeded, the new level chosen was DEFCON 4.

  6. Requesting until farther notice that no AGC members lower then High Council post in this thread.

Pending a reply to the accusations made that we have other people doing our 'dirty work'. The TLDR section of it being that we do not act in such an underhanded way. If we wanted(or still want) part of this we will do it ourselves unless we have no one in the NS range of someone.

You do understand the meaning of the word "apparently" don't you? We have a war with AGW Overlords. They do not fare very well. The person who started the war posts in a wiki he created that he planed to contact AGC for help. They talk about a second phase of the war starting on Saturday. We are attacked on Saturday, but not by AGC.

There is a connection between Avenguard Crusade and at least one of the alliances attacking us. Apparently a certain Xiphosis of the Global Order of Darkness was one of the nations that fired a nuclear first strike to defend AGC's predecessor, the Crimson Sun Empire in their technology raid that turned into a major war almost exactly a year ago.

No one is making an accusation because the evidence is only circumstantial, but from where I am sitting, it APPEARS that the Avenguard Crusade is the glue that ties the war between us and AGW Overlords and the one we are in now.

The only part I can answer to...and choose to do so is the part where you accuse us for spying your nukes, nopes...sorry. In fact I was the one that noticed that one of our members had launched a spy mission and bumped it to highers as we have been on heightened alert (along with many alliances) for such attacks occurring as well to our own members. As for what occured....well, as gather intel does no damage, I'd suspect that he was just reprimanded. If you'd of tried demanding reps for whatever nukes you had lost over the previous days/weeks.... I'd of been issuing attack orders a lot sooner.
I see no accusation, only the presentation of what evidence there was and leaving the missing information for others to decide. Some members of The Corps and Hell-Fighters were losing nuclear missiles to spy attacks that were not exposed. At the same time, a nation belonging to the Confederacy of Imperial States had an exposed spy attack upon one of the nations that recently lost several nuclear missiles.

One of the reasons cited for attacking us was that we were the ones who destroyed nuclear weapons with spy attacks, but no proof was offered. None of the losses on our side were exposed, but we do have some provable history of aggressive acts taken by your alliance.

  7. Miscellaneous (in no particular order)

    • One of the accusations is that we were constantly attacking tech raiders (that we were anti-tech raiders); which is taken completely out of context. We only retaliated against tech raiders that attacked us first, AFTER negotiations/diplomacy failed. We do not defend non-members.
We still have non-aligned members and it is handled differently if they are attacked. We have secured agreements with several tech-raiding alliances that if one of our non-aligned members is attacked that no other combatants or aid will be added on either side if the victim chooses to fight it out. If he wants peace, he will get it, but w/o reparations. We do require reparations when members bearing an alliance affiliation of 10 or more are attacked, however.
    • We have also been accused of jumping in and out of "legitimate" alliances in order to "scam" aid. There has been no specifics offered, much less any proof. Our membership is certainly no less honorable than our attackers in any regard. That should be plain.
    • It is been said that we are nursing grudges and are biding our time until we can exact revenge. The only vindictiveness we are seeing is from the enemy. Our mindset is to put past conflicts behind us and look forward as we develop our project of seeking sovereignty in our own way.

We are all former non-aligned remember and most of us do not care about alliance politics; we care more about game mechanics and helping our friends. We would prefer not to have to deal with political intrigues, personality conflicts, politicians, diplomats, etc. We just want our little corner and to be left alone.

We mean no one any harm and only respond militarily in self-defense. Just as it is outside of Planet Bob, not every gang wears their colors openly. Sovereign nations have the right to associate as they see fit, be they non-aligned or not. Just because one nation with the alliance of "None" is attacked in a robbery and another one comes to his aid does not make them terrorists or rogues.

You have NO RIGHT to force others to play the game the way you do. And if you do resort to violence because you cannot abide another group's sovereignty, prepare to bleed.

  8. Historical Animosity Leading to Conflict

The history is important to understand here as it directly relates to why we decided to get involved in this operation. Back then ONOS, CSE, and DLP were all tech raiding alliances and it's how our friendships grew - we'd exchange targets, tips and such. Back then, our targets were always inactives. One day, CSE hit someone who had a message in his biography - "Protected by friends." Whatever, right? Turns out that was the "thing" members of a certain somone's NONE wore.

And this CSE should have taken seriously. Some have said that NONE and its successor LoFN lies in wait to pounce upon the poor unsuspecting tech-raider. In that incident of about a year ago, we messaged the aggressor demanding peace and reparations. This was mockingly rejected and our reaction was no different from yours would have been. We counter-attacked and they defended the aggressor. It soon escalated into a full-scale war, in which they called in 4 or 5 alliances including nuclear first strikes against non-nuclear nations.

Also nuclear first strikes were launched against defenders by Xiphosii and The Big Bad. All of this to defend a tech-raid gone bad. They demanded the usual apologies, extortion, POW status, military emasculation that only bores us now. We refused and were resolved to keep fighting to ZI and beyond.

Eventually they tired of bleeding for nothing and withdrew.

Another skirmish with elements of our former enemies that split off from CSE and formed Avenguard Crusade took place a couple of months later. They got the same result -- unconditional peace/no surrender -- and were very bitter about this indeed.

Since then, Guffey in particular was apparently resolved to find someone large enough to help him exact his revenge for us fighting back and not bending to his faction's will. Apparently he found one.

Let us explore the timing of this particular attack. We had just come out of a war with a certain AGW Overlords who had attacked nations bearing the alliance affiliations of a couple of our squads several times before.

A 2 or 3 day war ensued ending in a White Peace. Note that the wiki can be changed by anyone.

During the war, there were some discussions in the publicly accessible parts of their Usenet group:

They alluded to a second phase of the war that would commence on Saturday:

And noted that help would be sought from Avenguard Crusade:

Apparently AGC was not up to the challenge, so they got some other factions to do their dirty work instead.
