  1. Basically just cut your losses. Don't buy any military in the beginning, aside from soldiers which are mandatory. You'll want to buy some infrastructure (small amounts to start) and as you buy more, it'll unlock improvements. Focus on your income boosting improvements at first to help give you more money on hand. I started at 28% tax rate and haven't touched it since. Others may have their own opinions on this, but get the max money you can out of them because chances are they won't be happy in the beginning anyway.

From there, post on the Black Market or do what I did and just message a higher-strength nation looking for tech deals. If they have a spot open, they'd be more than happy to help you as it benefits them also. They'll send you money, you'll send them tech after 10 days, and so forth. This is your primary source of income at the start and probably 97% of the money you'll earn. The last thing I'd look into is trade circles. Form the one that best suits your play-style and just search for people with the resources you chose.

As said before - join an Alliance. This will make it easier to grow. Not only for protection, but guides. tips. and resources. Plus, this game is much more fun when you join in the social aspect.

If there's anything else I can help with, let me know!

What can I say, each treaty was a logical step with similar alliances and similar goals. Plus it doesn't hurt to get our name out there.

Unless you make the wrong deals and befriend someone in turmoil. Then you may not want your name out there. It's good to see you guys making moves that strengthen your ties.

  3. Ultimately, when I began interacting with FTW when I was running GREAT (a very, very, small group of people and not known) it was for a lot more than protection. There was always that bonus, but it added more depth to a game that lacks excitement at times I can only imagine how the ancient nations feel at times. They gave us knowledge, direction, security, but ultimately a purpose. Text-based games only thrive when the community is active and welcoming. So being able to work out tech deals, talk economics, and really build a strand of friendships added extra substance. I could have interacted with other Alliances for the sense of safety knowing that we may be preyed on, but I would only do that if I felt that our growth would have been held back due to our micro size.

I respect an alliance that does what they said they would do and hold up treaties whether or not they believe they are doing the right thing.

Isn't that how it's supposed to work? New to the diplomacy scene here on Bob. Is this common practice for treaties to not be upheld by Alliances when things get heated, because they want to keep their hands clean? Or is it to save themselves any backlash from getting involved?

I was late when I approached GREAT. :( FTW beat me to them by a good margin. Good choice in joining FTW. Stay active GREAT.

Hello Roal! We appreciated the interest you had in our small band of nations though. I was fortunate enough to have created a good business agreement with FTW from the very birth of our Alliance. We had deemed it beneficial for both of us to make the move.

  6. Looking to try this out. I have heard that it's beneficial to both parties. I'm new to the game and in need of cash. So if anyone would like to help me perform this trade - I'm willing to not only make a deal, but make it long-term.

    Please message me in-game: ID=596665

    Thanks!
