  2. Reps have not always been a part of peace terms. Peace terms are given based on the nature of the conflict. GW1 had no reparations, only an apology later repudiated. I believe the WAPA and \m/ war resulted in no reparations. The fact is the only reason we see these reparation amounts in ever escalating quantity is because wars are so lopsided and it makes the victors feel better about themselves. They already suffered destruction by honoring their treaties which everyone seemed to be surprised and worthy of comment, yet the end result is their alliance is smashed and burried in debt. What about seeking positive consequences by encouraging treaties be honored by having the results of the conflict reflected rewarding that behavior. The victors in this conflict knew at the outset there was no risk involved in engaging in this fight yet they seem to pride themselves on harsh terms and rewarding themselves for beating up on the weak.

Did FAN or GOONS engage in war only on behalf of treaty obligations and conduct themselves with respect and courtesy? Didn't think so. GOONS and FAN behaivor justified differing terms (or non whatsoever). And don't justify the terms as merciful merely because you could have been that much worse. Just because you only decided to enslave the people and kill only the male children, doesn't make it much more merciful than if you decided to salt the earth so nothing would grow.

I am just curious as to why you expect alliances in this day and age to honor treaties and conduct themselves in a reasonable manner when it seems to have zero connotation to the eventual outcome. The aggressors or bandwagonners seemingly get the same terms as those trying to conduct themselves based on their word. Why should anyone honor treaties in this environment unless you are on the side of the the overwhelming force and therefore have zero risk of any negative outcome. The very behavior in these conflicts between the victorious and vanquished guarantees that treaties are not worth the effort they are to type out and all the kind words in the world are worthless since we will treat everyone as horrible warmongering criminals in the face of the righteous all powerful majority. Kind words after the beating and taking of additional resources do not make for positive reinforcement for anyone else to abide by their treaties.

GOONs and FAN behavior justified different terms--yes. They would have been much harsher than CSN got. CSN followed their treaties and as such got lighter terms. Mercy doesn't mean no consequences--it means lighter consequences.

So why should people honor treaties? Because after the war they are respected and can gain more allies. Alliances that play "cancel the treaty" look bad and may not receive as many treaty offers. I have a feeling CSN will be getting a LOT of MDP offers once this is over.

  3. . My point stands, your punishing them using the same standards you would use against any other alliance. How is that treating you opponent with the honor they have displayed

Because you know what standards IRON would have given another alliance for this same situation? I mean, clearly we would have given an alliance like FAN or GOONs the exact same terms...

Dismantling factories could have been an option. Dismantling SDIs, FABs, and hidden nuclear silos could have been an option. Those demands have been placed on alliances in the past. CSN did not get those terms--and they didn't for a reason.
