  1. Alright folks, it's been a great almost 2 years, but I've run my course in the game. I've grown bored of nation building, of monotonous politics, and the same irc conversations, either intellectual or just straight up madness. Sure, it was all fun, but it's like eating the same thing for every meal of the day; it gets old after a while. I was going to stick around and give away all my tech, but I got sanctioned and am too lazy to change teams, so I guess that's that.

Anyways, shoutouts to the alliances I was in for a substantial amount of time, and thus where people may actually remember me (if I do individuals I'll be sure to forget somebody)

-GATO: Thanks for getting me started and introducing me to internet culture in a way I doubt any other alliance could have done. You really are a great group of people and I completely admire the way you keep going, though people seem to enjoy smashing you into the ground time and time again. Keep it up dudes.

-The Grämlins: Seriously probably the games most hard core group of individuals. Sure, you have your disagreements, but everything comes out to work smoothly and effectively in the end. The nations are looking good, as always, and keep up the good work there dudes. Thanks for building me up from nothing when I joined, and thanks for being a cool group of people to hang out with.

-TDO: Well, I wasn't with you guys for that long, but you'll remember me I suppose, so I'll shout out you guys. Keep up the neutrality, I know it's tough to do in today's world, but do be careful what you let your members say on the boards and such; one slip and you may be done. Thanks for being so accepting of me and being a pretty nice group of people over all.

To everyone else, thanks for almost 2 years of MADNESS?!?! (cue "this is CN"). It's been fun.

(p.s. My nation is just sitting there, so if you feel like attacking it when my slots open go ahead.)

  2. No missed it, what did it look like?

Some smaller orange alliance did something during the war, I dunno, some declaration of war on somebody which the rest of orange didn't like, and they all declared on that alliance. They know how to keep their peace...

    Commentary

Good day to be above the sanction line, with only two alliances posting loses above it. Interesting day for the neutrals, as Green Protection Agency steals the biggest gainer, and The Democratic Order passes United Purple Nations. LoSS overtakes NATO with a strong move and looks forward to passing the :nuke:Global Radiation Level :nuke: tomorrow, which The Dark Evolution overtook today. Invicta moves closer to Mushroom Kingdom, closing the deficit to .07. Sadly, The Legion dropped below the Drop Line, and off they go into the wild blue yonder.

Today shout out goes to The Legion: For a long time you persevered against the oppression and tyranny of the drop line, but your valiant efforts could only save you for so long. We look forward to your return. *salutes* o7

  4. the problem of the matter is that it affects everyone on CN. People who are neutral adn don't want to fight are affected

people who have no alliance, affected.

zomg something bad is happeningz whatever shall we do

It'll go away soon. Plus, it hurts everyone, so no one is gaining from this. If it really bugs you that much go get rad clean up.

  5. I'm not saying it's "stupid" (It is but that is beside the point), I'm saying it is unhealthy and possibly dangerous. There are a lot of people, especially teenagers out there that are emotionally vulnerable. They won't or don't know how to deal with the problems in their life so they turn to drugs, alcohol, and in recent years interactive gaming. They use gaming at first as an escape but then they become dependent on it and when something goes wrong for them in the game it can push them over the edge. Obviously that is not the fault of the game, the individuals clearly have problems to start with but the game allows them to hide from their issues instead of dealing with them before they get out of control.

I think what's important or any interactive fantasy world such as this is for the community to discourage that type of behavior. We need to make it clear that it's not ok to get too wrapped up in this fantasy world, that this is just a game meant for entertainment. If we don't, if we tell people it's ok, then it is only a matter of time before someone takes it too far and there is simply no reason to risk that.

I do agree with what you are saying here. Maybe I was misunderstanding your original posts, and I'm am sorry if I was.

  6. It can happen with any large interactive game or community where people decide to take the conversation beyond the realm of the game. That has nothing to do with taking the game more serious.

Just to clarify what I'm talking about is people becoming emotionally connected to the game world. People who are genuinely upset when something happens to their nation. People who are using the game as a substitute for the real world becuase they find it easier.

We have all read stories of people killing themselves over games like WoW and this game certainly has the same potential to be abused by emotionally needy individuals. In fact I was informed last night that in a very similar game it has allegedly occurred in the past. That doesn't surprise me becuase it seems teenagers today are even more sensitive then back in my day, but unlike during my teen years they have these virtual worlds they can escape into.

I just don't want to see that happen here and in order to help ensure it doesn't I feel it's vital for the community to stress that you shouldn't take the game too serious. That if you start to care too much it could have a negative impact on your life.

To them, this is more then a game. Who are you to say they are wrong? This is in the internet, THERE ARE (almost) NO RULES. You are right, but for yourself. They are right for themselves too. You have no ground from which to say they are wrong, just because you think "it is stupid to get this attached to a game".

  7. A game is a game is a game. There is no difference if it's played with a board, on a TV, or on the internet. It's purpose is to entertain and give us a break from the struggles of life. Treating it as more important is unhealthy and always will be.

Some people play this game as more of a hobby, not so much of a game. To them, it is their model airplanes, their baseball cards, their scrapbook. The internet is different then real life. Games on the internet move SO much slower then real life games. What real life game to you know that last indefinitely? Therein lies the difference, and therein lies the possibility of creating this to be more then a game.

I must respectably disagree with your post; it is sometimes the case, but not the absolute you make it.
