  1. You are being very optimistic about the 'Karma' coalition and post-war realities.

There are worse alliances than ours, and while some alliances are fighting to change the world for the better, some are also fighting to remove the primary competition.

To the former, I wish we didn't have to be destroyed in the process, and to the latter, you will get what you deserve.

Actually, you make a very valid point, nobody has won anything yet, and for that I do apologize. I have been the witness of poor choices of assumptions, and will endeavour to not make that mistake.

  2. This is hardly the destruction of RDD acro... and you and FF seem to have gotten alot more confident since you crawled out of that pile of burning rubble, glad to see your confidence directly related to pixels.

Says the man who once led AE to war against FINAL because "they dont have any allies, who cares." Speaking of confidence from pixels.

  3. Seems to be the fun thing to do to post opinions about this conflict.

Lets be realistic, this war had to happen. The funny thing is, 95% of all of those on Karmas side in this war, can be found at one time or another to have hailed Pacifica for her past actions, at points in time where Pacificas actions benefitted them in some way, shape, or form. We are all sort of hypocrites in that respect. The sooner we all admit that, the sooner we can fight a fun war and make it all about blowing things up, and not about retribution or loyalty or honour.

To those who are saying Karma will become exactly what it is fighting NPO for, only time will tell. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. No, Im not saying Karma will ever weild absolute power. But the context of the analogy applies. I am, however, pretty sure that no demands of viceroyship, thousands upon thousands of tech payments, or alliance disbandments will be a part of this war. Nor will Eternal ZI, Perma ZI or Eternal War. In those respects, Karma will have immediately exceded the goal of being "different than the Hegemony."

From a personal standpoint, I am glad to see NPO taking a beatdown, Not because of anything they have personally done for me, but because on some level, everyone wants the top spot. And the only way to achieve the top spot, is to take down those currently residing in the top spot.

On a brighter note, Echelon, RDD and GGA are taking a beatdown. And this makes me personally happy due to personal grudges I hold against them.

If anyone actually takes the time to read this, thank you, and Im sorry for wasting your time.

Edited for spelling...and probably will need it again.

August 25th, 2008. The citizens of the nation-state of Athens emerged from the last world war. 41 tight-knit nations totalling 380K NS collected in the quiet halls of the Parthenon to chart a new course and a new future for all Athenians. Many problems were faced by this brave band of citizens. Battered military, poor economy, and a shortage of llama food were just some of the problems that plagued the Athenians. Then, as if from out of the blue, Londo came up with a brilliant idea to revive the Athens economy and pay to feed the flock of holy llamas that protected our borders.

Nearly 7 months, and thousands of boxes of cookies later, the Athens fundraiser is officially a success. As of tonights reset, Athens is proud to announce that not only have we exceeded the 100 nation mark, but also the 2 million NS mark, as well as the 400 Nuke mark. These milestones are a direct indicator of the dedication of the Athenian citizens and her government, and Jgoods' ability to look good in a girl scout uniform.

On behalf of the Athens government, we would like to extend a sincere thanks to all Athenian citizens for their hard work and to all of our fantastic allies for all of their support.

  5. I completely agree Bob. People act around incentive, and the way that the game is currently structured the incentives are stacked to follow the current model of allying every one with occasional stomps, followed by heavy reparations. The game mechanics have long favoured taking this approach.

I know admin doesn't really want to get involved in the politics of this game, but the game mechanics have unintentionally shaped the politics to follow this path.

The recent change from 100-200% declaration to 75-133% declaration, actually helps dissuade stomps. In the process this would also dissuade heavy reparations because if war becomes less lop sided, then the victorious side can't really demand heavy reparations.

A few more changes that I would suggest, which would be categorized under make stomps less viable, and make competition more viable.

    Dissuade stomps:

-Change defensive war slots from 3 to 2, and change offensive war slots from 3 to 4.

    -Makes wonders indestructible.

-Make the Navy system much cheaper and proportionally lower bonuses.

    - Small bonuses for defenders in war system(makes sense because in real life defenders do have an advantage).

    Encourage Competition:

-Have small yet desirable in-game bonuses for certain statistical achievements: i.e. Strongest alliance: +1 happiness for all members, Strongest alliance on a color sphere + 1 happiness for all members, strongest average NS above a score of 10 + 1 happiness for all members, Sanctioned alliances +1 happiness for all members, Most nuclear weapons (or nuclear weapons per members count), reduce environmental damage from uranium -0.5. - Those are just a few rough ideas, numbers aren't quite solid yet.

And to that end I would also propose that we switch over from merely a nation bio switch of AA, to an invite only system (which is the case for most games actually).

Effectively, changes like these would completely change the game is played for the better. More competition, less gang ups etc...

I would go a few steps further to dissuade stomps. I think a soldier morale system needs to be added into the game. It stands to reason that soldiers deployed on foreign soil would lack morale. I further believe that nations involved in offensive wars, should suffer SEVERE war weariness penalties at home. Make wars a RISK for the larger nation or larger alliance, because as it stands now, it is no risk at all, and it does not mesh with a "real world" simulation. Especially when you consider that the soldiers who fight these wars are hired mercenaries, and not nationals who are defending a homeland. Something to the effect of -2 happines on day 2 of a war. -4 on day 4. -8 after day 6. Update the events system to allow for war protests at home. Perhaps I am naive in thinking these could be easily implemented, but Im sure they could be. Until there is something to make war risky for those in power, the current state of the game will not change. Just my 2 cents, anyone requesting change for my 2 cents, please contact my broker.
