Well, it would depend on what you define as the "right combo". Your combo isn't that bad. Gems is highly desired. While Furs may not be at the top of the list, it is needed for the Affluent resource build which your combo is tailor-made for and is what you should be striving for. There is too much importance placed on starting resources.

Yes, I managed to get 3 of 4 trades accepted on my first day so I'm feeling chirpier than when I wrote that earlier. Not suicidal after all. And thanks for the plentiful advice.

This is a kinda blunt question, but how many times do people have to kill themselves off to get the right combo? Because I look at the top countries and they ain't got what I've got...furs and gems. Also is the assignment truly random or does it check current stats first? ie if it checks first it'll figure out furs are "needed" because of all the 100s of players who deleted themselves earlier.
