Both \m/ and goons manufactured incidents, and used those to commit extortion against smaller alliances. I, for one, hope that certain smaller alliances have paid them back with interest.

While the scam lasted, it was far more clever than the "yeah, well you don't like me, so I'm going nuclear" attitude certain others have exhibited here.

Anyway, moving the conversation to a higher level:

Rand is a great critic of philosophical systems, but much weaker at constructing one in the place of the ones she is so adept at pointing out the absurdities of. Her criticisms of both theocracy and communism are devastating, and should be required reading for anyone advocating either of those soul-crushing political constructs. Unfortunately, all that she could put in their place was this system based on an obsession with production and wealth that falls into some of the same materialistic traps communism (which, in its pure Marxist form, also has obsession with production and wealth) is mired in.

Also, while Rand was personally interested with psychology and psychological theories, she didn't comprehend it too well. Somehow, she thought she was above it all. How ironic that she carefully assembled an inner circle of followers who were genuinely the best and brightest, and then her whole circle blew itself up over something as tawdry as a second-rate sex scandal.
