  1. Think of joining an alliance like buying a car. Don't take anyones word that the new Mazda is the greatest thing since toilet paper- go drive it yourself and figure it out for yourself. The best way I feel to do so would be to go and delete every message in your inbox even related to recruitment and ignore anyone trying to recruit you, whether it be on irc, these forums or any other medium. Now go and lurk in the Open World Forum and the various sub-sections and take a look at how the regular members of an alliance conduct themselves. It will also help to see how the leaders act but usually the members are the best indication of an alliances culture. Just like you wouldn't trust some overdressed slime-ball car salesmen, don't trust recruiters. As far as I'm concerned, recruitment messages are not a good way to determine if an alliance is right for you, simply because they are the same generic !@#$ everywhere and they tell you nothing about what's going on in the actual Alliance.

  2. While it might not be fun to be sent the odd insulting reply when recruiting, it certainly isn't fun logging onto your nation to see your inbox flooded with what amounts to a pile of !@#$%* recruiting messages that say almost exactly the same thing, with very rare exceptions. After a while it's hardly surprising that someone might get pissed and/or try to scam you of a few bucks after they've been sent an unrelenting stream of !@#$ for the entirety of their time not in an alliance.

  3. You can't win a c**kwagging contest with Reyne, so don't try. And you might want to brush up on the meaning of respect yourself. Because "Shut the $%&@ up" and "!@#$%" is NOT respectful.

EDIT: Also, your ruler name does not match your forum name. Might want to get that fixed, champ.

Try empathizing with the man. He just got told his alliance leader is essentially an imbecile and you expect him to just take it?

  4. We have more friends than you think Timeline.

Also, you best watch your mouth from now on Timeline, it isn't making you any new friends.

If you've got a problem with what an IRON member is saying, take it to our government. If you wanna continue harassing anyone in IRON you can just piss off.

  5. Thanks for the clarification, with so many conversations going on at once it gets a tad confusing.

As a regular member of IRON I am unaware of what occurred with VE recently other then the fact that something did occur.

What I do know is that before this "incident" IRON, at least from the view point of a regular member, had every intention of keeping these treaties and were much more concerned with repairing the damage that had occurred.

I've been watching this thread with great interest and, as a general member of IRON, I also got the distinct impression that Authur did about our relationship with NpO. To say the majority of the posts in this thread have been disappointing would be an understatement and have done very little to strengthen my hopes in NpO but I still maintain some hope that this isn't as bad as it's made out to be.

  6. 6/17/2008

7/17/2008 Flooding has become a problem in your nation due to the recent heavy rains. Option selected. See Current Response.

Option 1: Take action and build dams and levy's in the areas prone to flooding. Citizen income -$5.00.

    6/16/2008

7/16/2008 A major earthquake has rocked your northern territories causing severe damage to some of the villages located there. Option selected. See Current Response.

Option 1: Send building materials to rebuild the damaged areas. Citizen income -$5.00.

    6/13/2008

7/13/2008 A widespread viral infection has spread among your populace. Should you take action? Option selected. See Current Response.

Option 1: Allow the outbreak to run its course. Citizen count -2%.

Oh yeah. These events really make me enjoy the game. -.-

  7. Absolutely not. A POW surrendered to you under the assumption that in exchange for a demilitarization of their nation and possibly reparations paid to you, they essentially become an individual protectorate, specifically to you. In surrendering, it is assumed that those who surrender do so because you will honor your part of the bargain and assure them the safety and security of their nation for so long as they are your POW. (I assume that the length of time one is to remain a POW is an agreed upon facet as well) In selling a POW you are causing a breach of the terms of surrender, thus the prisoner of war has no obligation to remain a prisoner of war. That said, if one were to add a clause to the surrender terms something along the lines of:

"You are liable to be sold to another alliance at any time for any reason. We are not liable for your nation after sale of your nation is complete. "

then it would legally be acceptable. However, nobody in their right mind would surrender to such terms due to the possibility of rampant abuse of the POW.

  8. I'd like to start by prefacing my question by stating that it is not my intention to question the sovereign right of your alliance to declare war on those you might consider hostile to you.

I'm curious to know if a diplomatic effort was made by TORN to contact the leaders of Golden Sabres to inform them of what TORN considered to be a hostile action against TORN in regards to Golden Sabre support of FAN? Further, I'm interested in knowing if an ultimatum was given by TORN to Golden Sabres in a public venue to cease support of FAN?

  9. umm.. simple answer is NPO didn't declare this war, nor told anyone to declare it for them.. We invited them along as a treatied partner.. so why is everyone wanting NPO proof?

Also, its well known FAN is an enemy, and anyone found supporting them isn't gonna get the benefits of umm.. your doing wrong speeches that dont work anyways...

Its very public GS supports them, and now GS is paying for it.

So instead of wasting time typing "bawwwww' post about how unfair this is supposed to be.. Just rally your troops and come join the party..

Thanks for clearing that up. I was honestly a bit confused by all the Declaration's of War and just chose the one with the most posts, assuming the NPO made the original Declaration of war against the Golden Sabres.

  10. The NPO could have avoided this whole conflict my attempting to settle it diplomatically, which I am not yet sure if they did. If they did and diplomacy failed then I would have no issue with this war, however, if the NPO did not attempt to approach Golden Sabres diplomatically then a horrible precedent is being set and will only result in more wars being fought for increasingly minor reasons.

I'm inclined to agree with this statement. I think that at the least the NPO, Valhalla or GGA should have issued a public ultimatum demanding the cessation of what they consider support provided to their enemies. Maybe someone from either alliance could clear this up, if possible.

  11. That's all, I think. From Wikipedia:

Burden of proof (Latin, onus probandi) is the obligation to prove allegations which are presented in a legal action. Under the Latin maxim necessitas probandi incumbit ei qui agit, the ordinary rule is that "the necessity of proof lies with he who complains.

Obviously, the proof needed to be provided before the execution.

There's no need for back and forth action here to be honest. It's either Andromeda has proof or it doesn't. You, while you did a remarkable job of defending yourself, shouldn't even have to do that if we're following "The burden of proof." From the slide show, I gather that you were in the LoFN forums, and were oblivious to what NONE and Walford are. In my opinion, just being in the forums isn't enough, since the first slide regarding AHEAD clearly says they have no obligations, only that they agree on their views, which in my opinion carries the same weight as voting for a party that eventually didn't win. Or even less than that.

Andromeda, I like you, find some evidence to clean this up please. :\

Andromeda is a sovereign alliance that can essentially go to war for any number of reasons no matter how airtight or frivolous they may appear to be, as can any other sovereign alliance. So far as I know, Andromeda isn't a participant of any form of binding or non-binding treaty that requires it to have a plausible reason for going to war and I highly doubt any alliance would sign such a treaty. The mere idea that an alliance would willingly submit to the opinions of a few outspoken dissidents who aren't even members of said alliance is laughable and the same can be said of it willingly giving up its sovereignty.

  12. 1.) Easy enough, lets go to number 2 though to get to specific alliances.

2.) Orange: The Order of the Paradox, IRON, ODN. Blue: New Polar Order, MCXA. Black: Sparta is a good alliance on Black.

3.) I doubt any of the above alliances will allow you to attack anyone at will. However, there are always alliance wide wars to keep things interesting.

4.) All of the above and many others have a mostly mature membership.

Also, you a Davidson basketball fan?

Nope. Never actually heard of Davidson. Thanks for the suggestions though.
